Ep - 14. Marriage Proposal

"Yes, yes! I would love."

Sophia had no idea when she blurted out those words. She immediately covered her mouth, before she could say anything else

''Oh my goodness! This sumptuous food is really messing with my head. Why can't I think straight?''

"Oh, actually, I am done eating this. I won't take another bite. I'm already very full. Furthermore, I don't think I can even stand!"

As she said this, she caressed her round tummy. It was already protruding. She wasn't exactly concerned about her protruding belly. Actually, she was frightened by the fact that she wouldn't have the strength to run away. This thought caused her heart to skip a bit.

Little Jimmy suddenly stood up from where he sat. He was taken aback by her words. Slowly, he struck his father's hand. With a cute face, he looked earnestly at Sophia and said in an adorable voice,

"Now that you've had your meal, can you make a request now?"

Following this question, Sophia stole a glance at Vincent Xiao. She then looked at the adorable little lad beside him again. They must be plotting something!

"Oh cutie! I really don't have any needs. I have everything. So don't worry yourself."

"I am lying. Actually, I need some money. But you don't give me any dime!''

Jimmy placed his index finger on his lips. He pretended like he was thinking hard about something. Then he said to her,

"I know exactly what you need, Aunt Sophia. You need a boyfriend. My daddy right here, is the perfect man for you. You should give him a chance. What do you think about that?"

Sophia was bewildered by this request. She roughly rubbed her forehead with her fingers. She had suddenly developed a headache. Although, she couldn't fathom why, she suddenly felt played. They were trying to corner her with this request. Just like they did the other day.

It dawned on her at that moment. They weren't trying to treat her to a delicious meal. This was all a set-up! They were trying to get back at her for that night! Popular opinion had it that wealthy people were very stingy. She had never thought it was true.

Remembering that night, her head ached the more. She had caused a commotion because she mistook Vincent for someone else. It appeared he hadn't forgiven her for that mistake. This means he was trying to have his revenge.

'Jimmy wants me to marry his father? What a big fat lie! I can't do that. They will probably tie me up, and lock me in a dungeon to torture me the moment I say yes. This must be a set up. Ugh! I haven't even gotten to the peak of my career yet. Yes I'm just another ordinary actress, but I've been through a lot; and I know how things work. Never will I fall into this trap!'

As she thought about this, it occurred to her that she could act her way out of this dilemma. Faking pain, she held her tummy tightly with one hand. And supported her head with the other. She ached her brows and said,

"Please excuse me for a minute. I need to use the bathroom ASAP. I think I ate too much crab legs. I don't feel so good. Please hold on. I will be back shortly."

Sophia immediately stood up. She walked to the door. And then struggled to open it. Then... Immediately she was outside, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. She never returned.

Noticing that Sophia had fled, Jimmy heaved and sagged his shoulders. He then turned around and spoke to Daniel,

"Uncle Daniel, plan A has failed. What is our next step?"

Daniel was worried that Jimmy would be upset. He could already see the disappointment written on his face.

"It's okay; it's okay. We still have our backup plans. Plan B and plan C."

If things got any worse, they may have to tie Sophia up and drag her to the altar with Vincent.

This was very unimaginable! There was no woman who wasn't interested in Vincent! Many women always wanted to have a taste of him. Alas! This particular woman seemed to be an exception!!

Yards away, Sophia sprinted out of the hotel premises. She turned to look back at the illuminated and beautiful structure.

She then touched her belly and heaved a sigh of relief

"I'm really sorry. You're still hungry. I have bad luck! I should head back to my hotel lodge to have some instant noodles instead."

She took out her phone and searched frantically for an online map. She wanted to find out which subway station Was closest. She knew fully well that she performed woefully, 'when taking directions. The moment she reached the subway station, a call came in from Amy.

"Sophia, do you still have any cash left?" The other end of the line was a little noisy.

Sophia knew that Amy was calling her while she was on set. Replying in a calm tone,

"I still have more than seven thousand left. I can manage that for the time being."

"Actually, I initially wanted you to move in to one of my houses. But on a second thought, I have no apartment at your city. So I have asked Mr. Fang to secure an apartment for you. You would have to meet him at Alva Bar. You can do that when you are free."

"I have already paid the rent. Just stay there for the time being. Regarding the money I lent you, you can take your time to pay back. I understand it would be until you are offered an acting role."

Amy was such a good friend. Although when they first met, they quarreled a lot. But now, she was the only friend who didn't abandon Sophia.

And she was grateful for her friendship. She smiled and said jokingly,

"Don't expect any gratitude from me."

Amy cleared her throat,

"Humph! I wasn't expecting any appreciation. I don't need it! In fact, I am asking for an interest on the money I lent you. I want you to double it when you pay. Do you understand me?"
