Chapter Five: The Mysterious Call
Kevin sat at his desk, the dark box that Michael had left behind still occupying his thoughts. He couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled over him since he stumbled over it in the common area. "What could be in that box?" he wondered aloud to himself, his brow furrowed in confusion. "Is it some kind of prank or... something else?"
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Kevin tried to push the matter from his mind. After all, he had more pressing concerns to attend to, like preparing for his upcoming exams and final projects. With a sigh, he turned his attention back to his textbooks, determined to focus on his studies.
But despite his best efforts, the memory of the mysterious box lingered, casting a shadow over his thoughts as he attempted to concentrate on his work. Try as he might, Kevin couldn't shake the feeling that there was something important about that box, something he couldn't quite put his finger on.
Several days passed, each one filled with the usual routine of classes, study sessions, and occasional outings with friends. Yet, no matter how busy he kept himself, Kevin couldn't shake the feeling of impending dread that gnawed at the back of his mind.
Then, one evening, just as Kevin was about to turn in for the night, his phone rang, startling him out of his reverie. Glancing at the caller ID, he saw that it was Grace, his friend and classmate.
Curious, Kevin answered the call, his heart pounding in his chest. "Hey, Grace," he greeted her, trying to keep his voice casual despite the unease he felt.
"Hey, Kevin," Grace replied, her voice tinged with urgency. "Listen, I need to talk to you about something important."
Kevin's stomach clenched with apprehension, a sinking feeling settling in the pit of his stomach. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice tight with worry.
"It's about Michael," Grace explained, her tone grave. "He's been acting strange lately, and I'm starting to get worried. I tried calling him, but he won't answer his phone, and no one has seen him for days."
A sense of foreboding washed over Kevin as he listened to Grace's words. Michael, his best friend and confidant, had vanished without a trace, leaving behind nothing but unanswered questions and growing concern.
"I'll come over right away," Kevin promised, his mind racing with possibilities. "We'll figure this out together."
With that, Kevin ended the call, his thoughts consumed by the mystery of Michael's disappearance. Little did he know, this was just the beginning of a journey that would lead him down a path of darkness and danger, where secrets lurked in the shadows and nothing was as it seemed.
Kevin sat at his desk, his gaze drifting once again to the dark box that Michael had left behind. As he stared at it, lost in thought, a sudden flash of bright light emanated from within the box, illuminating the room with an otherworldly glow. Startled, Kevin stumbled backward, his heart racing with fear and confusion.
Before he could react, the light vanished, plunging the room into darkness once more. Kevin's breath caught in his throat as he tried to make sense of what he had just witnessed. Was it his imagination playing tricks on him, or had something truly supernatural just occurred?
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps approaching his room. Panic surged through Kevin as he realized that his dormitory mates were about to enter, unaware of the strange phenomenon that had just occurred.
"Wait, don't come in!" Kevin shouted, his voice laced with fear as he scrambled to block the door.
Confusion filled the air as his dormitory mates paused, their expressions puzzled and curious.
"What's going on, Kevin?" the leader of the dorm asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
"I... I don't know," Kevin stammered, his mind racing with uncertainty. "There's something... something strange in here. You shouldn't come in."
The leader of the dorm exchanged a glance with his companions, uncertainty flickering in their eyes.
"We just need to grab something," the dorm leader explained, his tone firm but understanding. "We won't stay long, I promise."
Desperate to keep his friends safe from whatever unseen danger lurked within the room, Kevin racked his brain for a solution. Then, an idea struck him.
"If you leave now," Kevin offered, his voice trembling with anxiety, "I'll buy you all new controllers. How's that sound?"
The dorm leader hesitated for a moment, weighing Kevin's offer against the allure of whatever lay inside the room. Finally, he nodded, a grin spreading across his face.
"You've got yourself a deal," the dorm leader agreed, his companions echoing their approval.
With that, the dormitory mates departed, leaving Kevin alone once more with the mysterious box and the unsettling feeling that something dark and dangerous lurked just beyond his grasp.
