Awaken

William Price's eyes fluttered open, the bright light from the room made him shield his eyes from the excessive light.

"Thank God you're okay," Josh said, his eyes already misting over with tears.

"What happened?" he asked after a while, his voice hoarse, he had been unconscious for a while after getting in an accident. The doctor had warned them that there was a possibility that he might wake up with amnesia but as long as he is fine, amnesia is a little price to pay.

"Do you know who I am? Can you recognize me?" Josh asked hopefully, he wanted to confirm if his boss could remember certain things, William had then looked at his assistant weirdly, sighed and sat up without responding, he was looking around the room to register his strange environment.

"What happened?" he asked again, looking around the room.

"There was an accident, sir," Josh replied, pressing the button on the headboard to call the doctor who rushed in almost immediately.

"Mr Price, How are you feeling now?" the doctor asked after checking his pulse

"What day is today?" he asked groggily, he hated being prodded but allowed it, since his body still felt weak, he wanted to make sure he hadn't missed any important appointments.

"It's the seventeenth of July sir," Josh replied eagerly, from the corner of the room where he had been watching his boss closely, William who couldn't believe what he just heard stared at his assistant weirdly before replying.

"That is not possible, is today not the fifth of June?" although he asked, he couldn't be too sure, all he remembered was being in a conference, everything after that was blank and foggy in his mind and he wanted to know everything, particularly, how he came to be in the hospital.

"Mr Price," the doctor called clearing his throat, "I would like to ask a few questions if that is okay with you" said the doctor after careful examination. "What can you remember?"

"I went for the conference with the Aztec executives yesterday and...and..." he paused trying to remember what happened after the conference.

"Well, the conference was over a month ago, you were involved in an accident on your way back from a trip and have been unconscious ever since," the doctor replied and William looked at his assistant questioningly who was nodding in agreement. William couldn't believe he had missed a whole month.

"Are you saying, I have been asleep for that long?" William asked the doctor, unable to believe the words.

"I am afraid so," the doctor confirmed.

"What about the others, Roger?" William asked, his concern apparent.

"Sadly, your driver didn't make it," the doctor replied. A lot had happened while he lay unconscious but knowing the kind of man Mr Price was, it was better to tell him everything at once than letting him find out on his own.

"I understand." He replied after a long pause, his demeanor changing with every second.

"If there is anything I can help with, do let me know." the doctor said sympathetically before leaving the room to arrange for his discharge.

After the doctor left the room, he looked at his assistant who was increasingly quiet and Josh moved closer with relish and said

"The person responsible for your accident has been apprehended this morning, it took us this long to find her but she is locked up as we speak,"
