Addie slowed down and practically clung to Knox’s side
when she looked at the man. He was heavily tattooed, even
more than Knox, and he looked dangerous.
The man grinned at Addie, “Hi, I’m Ash. I’m Knox’s older
and much better-looking brother.”
Addie could feel herself blush and then feel a second of
guilt for feeling intimidated by the man. She wasn’t used to
being around such muscular men who walked around like
they owned the world.
“He’s only six months older than I am. And he is definitely
not the better-looking one,” Knox said dryly.
She reached out and shook the hand that he held out for
her.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Addie,” she said, smiling at
Ash.
Knox made a noise that sounded like a growl, and when
she looked up at him, he was scowling at his brother. Ash
seemed completely oblivious to Knox staring at him down as
he continued to grin at Addie.
“How are you two only six months apart in age?” she
asked curiously.
Knox cleared his throat, “It’s a long story.”
Ash nodded his head.
“We were strays, and our dad took us in,” Ash said.
She immediately saw the deadly look that Knox shot
toward Ash and wondered what that was all about. What did
he mean by they were strays? Were they adopted or
something like that? She really shouldn’t care or want to
know, but for some reason, she did. Ash must have finally
gotten whatever message Knox was sending him because
he changed the subject.
“Knox already has everything set up in the range area,
but you need protective eyewear and earwear. I have pink,
blue, or black,” Ash said.
Addie practically bounced on her toes. She loved
anything pink.
“You have pink?” she asked excitedly.
Ash grinned and winked at her, pulling a pair of pink
framed protective glasses out from under the counter and a
pair of hot pink safety earmuffs. She grinned and looked up
at Knox.
“Here, try them on,” he said.
Knox picked up the earmuffs off the counter and set them
over her ears. Turning to Ash, he glared and said something
that she couldn’t hear, but by the look on his face, it
seemed like it was a threat of some sort. Addie looked
between the men nervously. Ash grinned and shook his
head. Knox looked down at her and smiled before pulling
them off her head.
“They look cute,” he said.
She beamed up at Knox.
“Do you have any pink guns that would match these?”
she asked eagerly.
Both men looked at each other in horror.
“No pink guns,” they said in unison.
She rolled her eyes and shook her head.
“Gosh, you guys are bossy,” she said.
Ash grinned, “Better get used to it with this one. He’s the
bossiest of us all.”
Her cheeks flushed, and she hoped that the arousal that
she felt about Knox being so bossy wasn’t obvious to them.
“Not hardly.” Knox said, “Come on, let’s go.”
He grabbed her gear off the counter and strode toward a
set of metal doors. Opening the door, he waited for her to
walk through and then went to a second door, unlocking it
by entering a code into a keypad.
At least a dozen guns sat on a table in the middle of the
room, and there were two lanes with a partition in between
them. They were the only ones in the room which made it
feel almost intimate. She eyed the guns nervously.
“All of these guns have safety switches, and none of them
have bullets loaded into them yet.”
