Later that day, Knox stood behind the counter of his gun
store, NW Tactical, and did inventory while his employees
helped the customers. Guns and ammo were in high
demand, so the store was constantly busy, and he often ran
low on products.
He looked around the store and felt warm inside. What
had started as a small shop in a shitty part of Seattle, had
grown into a large store near downtown. All of the display
cases had been hand-made with cedar wood and glass by
one of his friends. Most everything in the store had been
made with old wood that he had repurposed in some way to
make it look and feel rustic inside. The floor was a dark
wood that had had a torch run over it to give it a burnt look.
There were some days that he had a line outside of
patrons waiting to get in and find their next gun. Anytime
there were changes with laws, an increase in crime around
the city, or a presidential change, the store would stay busy
non-stop. It was one of the reasons why he had decided to
permanently close on Sundays so his employees could get
at least one day of rest.
His thoughts wandered back to the gym that morning,
and he thought about what Beau had said about him not
being a bad person. While he wanted to believe his brother,
he didn’t know that he fully did. Knox and his brothers didn’t
exactly live on the right side of the law. Not that they were
thugs, but they did things that weren’t legal. And while Knox
knew wholeheartedly that the people that they hurt
deserved it, he was still technically a criminal.
The sound of the door opening brought his attention back
to the present, and when he looked up and saw the widest
pair of blue eyes he’d ever seen, Knox felt as though the
wind had been knocked out of him. Straightening up from
where he was leaning over the counter, he took in the short, blond woman. Her eyes, wide as they were, looked terrified.
The dress she was wearing, while adorable, hid the curvy
figure that he could tell that she had.
Before he realized it, he was rounding the corner of the
counter and approaching her. Her hands were trembling,
and she had her purse clutched to her side. He wasn’t sure,
but it looked as though her face was paler than the rest of
her exposed skin.
“Hi, can I help you?”
He couldn’t tear his eyes away from her. The baby doll
dress she wore was tight around her full breasts, but it
flared out right at the waist, and landed mid-thigh, showing
off her perfect full legs. When he noticed the Mary Jane flats
that she was wearing, he almost wanted to pinch himself to
figure out if this was real or if he was dreaming of the most
perfect woman he had ever seen.
“I need to buy a gun,” she said urgently.
