Knox smiled at the thought. Some people would probably
consider it barbaric that they bonded while fighting each
other, but it worked for them.
“Morning, bro. It’s a great day, isn’t it?” Beau asked with
a grin.
Holding up his cup of steaming black coffee, Knox
nodded. He wasn’t much of a morning person, and he would
probably be homicidal in the mornings if he weren’t able to
drink at least three cups of coffee. Beau was a morning
person, and he loved to irritate the crap out of Knox first
thing.
They walked into the gym together and nodded their
greeting toward people who were already deep into their
workout. Even though Beau owned the gym, all of the
brothers knew just about everyone who worked out there.
Setting their bags down by an available ring, both men
took off their hoodies and pulled on their gloves. While Beau
did a mix of martial arts, Knox only boxed. It sometimes
caused a disadvantage for him when he sparred with Beau.
“You seemed quiet at dinner last night,” Beau said.
Knox looked up from where he was sitting on a bench.
Leave it to Beau to want to have a heart-to-heart first thing
in the fucking morning… on a Monday.
“Yeah,” he replied gruffly.
Beau stared at him for a moment before he began
stretching out his arms and neck, jumping from foot to foot
to warm up. Knox followed suit in silence, lost in his
thoughts.
He had been in his head so much lately that it had been
hard to concentrate. He hadn’t played at the BDSM club that
he belonged to in over six months, and Knox wasn’t sure if
that was why he was feeling so restless.
He suspected it was more than that. Playing Daddy to a
Little for one night only satisfied him for so long… like until
he went home and got into his empty bed alone.
Luckily, by the time they stepped into the ring, Beau
must have realized that Knox wasn’t going to spill, so they
began exchanging punches. Both men were dripping sweat
within twenty minutes, and Knox’s mind was clearing for the
first time in days.
“Don’t you get lonely?” Knox finally asked when they
stopped to take a water break.
He took several swallows of his water while letting Beau
think about his answer. If the question had surprised Beau,
he didn’t let it show. Despite being covered from the neck
down in tattoos, Beau was a deep thinker, which was one of
the many reasons why they got along so well.
“Every time I go home, every time I go to bed, and every
day that I wake up,” Beau said.
Knox studied his brother. All of his brothers were also
Daddies, and they were also all single. They all played with
Littles casually from time to time, but because of the nature
of their work that they did in the shadows, they all felt that
it would be unfair to a Little to be in a relationship with
them.
“Is it selfish that I feel like I want something more
substantial in my life? I’m not a good man. We do some
shady shit, and yes, I know it’s for the greater good, but it’s
still bad,” Knox said.
Beau narrowed his eyes at Knox and drank from his water
bottle. Knox could see the wheels turning in his head, and
he sensed a lecture coming.
“The only reason we do bad things is to protect those
who are innocents. To save those who can’t save
themselves. We aren’t out there hurting people just to hurt
people. We do it with good intentions. We do it to help
people. So don’t say you’re not a good man. You’re one of
the best fucking men I’ve ever known. You just need to find
someone who can love you not just for the good, but for the
dark and ugly side of you as well. But the good outweighs
the bad. In all of us,” Beau said, shrugging his shoulders.
