I've only been reading for about 30 minutes when the commotion outside catches my attention. The door bursts open and my dear Florencia storms into my office like a wild beast.
"What the hell do you think you're doing sitting there?" she yells, with my receptionist and my idiot ex behind her.
"Get out," I say coldly, not planning to be intimidated by any of these three characters.
While she continues to shout things that I really don't care about, she approaches me at a rapid pace.
"I don't know what tricks you used to convince my father, but you're leaving right now," now that I have her closer, I can notice how emaciated she is. My god, we used to look the same, even though I'm older, but now it seems like the years have passed over her, taking away all the beauty she had.
"Mrs. Blass, I told her that this was your office, but she came in anyway," damn sold-out receptionist, you don't have much time left in this place.
"Grab that green folder over there," I say, pointing to the small paperweight in the middle of two armchairs.
She heads to where I tell her, and when she opens the folder, I see her fall into one of the armchairs. Her eyes begin to shed tears, and she continues to shout euphorically.
"This can't be, he wouldn't do something like this to me," she murmurs in a loud tone so that everyone can hear her. "You did something to bewitch him, you damn witch."
And here my patience runs out. I get up very slowly from my chair, and I can see out of the corner of my eye how the idiot Franco stares at me with his mouth open. I approach her and take the folder from her trembling hands.
"This employment contract gives me the position of president for 365 days, obviously with conditions, but it takes you out of the game. Guillermo and you will receive a fair salary per month, and I have the possibility to make all the necessary changes that benefit the growth of this company. So, leaving aside the explanations, I repeat what I said a moment ago: GET OUT." I don't shout, I don't need to, but my tone is now threatening. She knows perfectly well that I can call security and have her removed from here. Even my secretary is silent, hopefully she understood that she should pack her things quickly.
She gets up like a superstar and approaches her husband, who, by the way, doesn't take his eyes off me, and I swear to all the gods that he disgusts me. His wife is there suffering, and he's infatuated with another woman.
"All this is because we fell in love, right?" she says with a hurt tone.
"Are you kidding me? The best thing you could have done for me in life was to take that idiot out of my way. Now, I'll give you one minute to leave or I'll call security," I say, returning to my seat and picking up the book I had stopped reading.
I didn't care about their faces. The only thing that mattered to me was that in two minutes my office was empty again. Luckily, Florencia's screams didn't give me a headache.
I finish reading everything, and I understand what the biggest problem was. My dear sister spent company funds on personal things, but never touched a single cent of her salary. Therefore, there had to be many budget cuts and perhaps employee layoffs. I would do the latter later; first, I was going to concentrate on selling the products that should have been on the shelves of perfumeries more than 6 months ago. I would give them the necessary advertising to sell them at a low cost and generate minimal profits to gain customers quickly. There were several employees who were in positions that were not even necessary and were not trained for them, so I was going to move them and provide them with the necessary training so that they could keep their new jobs. What I urgently needed to get quickly was investors to finance the latest creams that had been manufactured and, who knows why, had never left the factory.
The boardroom was a sea of men angry at Guillermo's decision to give me the position of president. At first, they didn't even bother to listen to me, and I could notice their faces of hatred towards me.
"Does anyone present have anything to say?" I said, tired of their continuous murmurs.
"You are not qualified for that position, and let me tell you that this company is almost on the ropes. Do you really think you have a magic wand to solve this disaster?" the one who spoke was an old man who surely was not even 50 years old, but his attitude and his presence bothered me.
"Mr. Rodriguez, you have two options at this time, either you help me put this company back on top, or you pack your things and leave without having to come back unless it is to go through the human resources area to collect your compensation," I looked at him fixedly without lowering my head. "I am giving you short, medium, and long-term solutions. If my presence bothers you so much, then all of you leave and let me do the job I was hired for, but I warn you, once you pass that door, look for your checks because you will never set foot in this company again. Was I clear?" I looked one by one at all the men sitting at the long table in the boardroom. I could see how many of them swallowed hard, but none of them dared to even move an inch from their place, and that gave me the cue to finish explaining all my ideas, which I don't need to say were accepted immediately.
Finally, the first day ended. At four in the afternoon, I left to pick up my son, who was already finishing his double shift at daycare. I wanted to know how his day had been, and we also had to run errands to have everything we needed.
"Is there anything special you want to eat tonight, honey?" I said while loading toilet paper and napkins into the cart.
"Whatever Auntie cooks will be fine, Mommy," he said almost without enthusiasm.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"I'm bored at daycare. I'd rather be with you at work," he said while taking a detergent from the gondola and placing it in the cart.
"You know you have to go, and I want you to be able to study whatever career you like tomorrow," I said, reaching out to kiss him on the head.
"I know, Mom, but I'm bored," his puppy dog face was beautiful; he knew how to win me over.
"You only have this year left, son. Soon you will go to school and study much more. For now, enjoy what daycare provides you," I said, taking him in my arms.
Once the shopping was finished, we headed home. Auntie must have been impatiently waiting for us to tell her how our day had been.
