Premonition

"So, what do you want to know... We have loads of time" the clone said.

"Uhhh.. first, what's your name?" Mike said

"Well, I'm Mike. You should know that since you're my reflection" the clone said

"What do you mean?" Mike asked then continued "you're MY reflection, not the other way round"

"No..no..no" the clone emphasized "I'm not going to relegate to the role of sidekick and let you say stuff like that dude. You're MY reflection and I'm not budging"

"Okay, now you're losing me here, you're meant to be in a mirror.. you can't be here and start claiming to be me" Mike said

"How much of an ego do you have?" The shadow said seemingly annoyed "what do you know about the mirror realm?"

" Is that what this place is called?" Mike said.

"Exactly, you know nothing. But I'm going to help you strictly for my sake" the shadow said " pay attention. Your world and my world are mirrors of each other. They're the exact same size, composition, shape and everything".

"But.."

Mike was about to talk but was interrupted by shadow.

"Every decision we make is collectively influenced by both of us. You're not the one calling the shots bro. 50% of your decisions are made by me while 50% are made by you. The same applies to me." Clone explained "our two worlds counteract each other and influence each other. We're on both sides of the mirror"

"So, I'm a mirror to you and you're a mirror to me." Mike said

"Exactly, you could say I'm your alter ego. This seems big but I'm an intelligent person so you should understand" the clone said.

"Well, where are we now?" Mike asked. He was much calmer now "we were just at the party, and where's Chris?"

"Well from my deductions, this is the lobby, the realm between our worlds."

"How did you know that?" Mike asked "how did you know all of this?"

"Well it's all in this book over here" shadow said as he raised a large book and waved it in front of Mike " this book largely explains everything"

The book looked really large and appeared to have a lot of pages

"How did you manage to read this, we haven't spent that long here?" Mike asked, growing suspicious.

"I watched you through that mirror and read while you were asleep. Apparently us meeting here causes some of the rules of space and interaction between the mirror world to break" the clone said " also there's loads of it I can't decipher"

At that exact moment Christian just finished reading the second chapter of the same book. He then noticed that the first part disappeared along with the part he just finished reading and his tattoo began to glow.

The same thing occurred in the room Mike was and he felt a pain and saw a tattoo appear on his hand. It was a tattoo of a mirror. Of course the same tattoo appeared on the mirror clone. The two tattoos started glowing and immediately Mike was expelled from the room and it disappeared as if it was never there. By the time he looked around him he realised the clone was gone and also noticed that most of the doors had disappeared.

"Mike" a gentle, familiar voice said. He looked around and saw Chris. Mike yelped for joy and hugged him.

The two friends talked about what happened to them but Chris didn't include the accident he saw because he didn't understand what it signified..at least he hoped it wasn't what he thought.

...****************...

Noise surrounded the boys.

Everybody was laughing

"They didn't even last a minute" Jin said while laughing

Chris and Mike woke up at the same time and were surprised that they were still in the real world. Chris realised he had completely messed up the correlation because the timer showed they had only spent 47 seconds. While Chris estimated 7 hours. He was thinking about it when he realised what it must mean.

He grabbed Mike's hand and dragged him quickly to the exit.

He told him plainly and swiftly

"If we don't hurry up, in less than. Seven hours your sister will die." Mike wore a shocked expression as his dreadlocks covered his face. The band which he used to wrap them had been cut.

Chris' hair was cut low and brushed stylishly. Ming inherited a lot of her mom's looks. Mike's Mom was Asian while Chris' dad was American. They both had African parents. Interracial marriages hasd become more popular in the CAU.

"What time is it Mike?" Mike didn't respond so Chris dragged his watch and stared at it. It was 3:07. Meaning before 10:00am Ming would be dead if they didn't stop her from going to work.

" We can still save her Mike" Chris said

"Ugh..how?" Mike said as tears streamed down his face.

"Give her a call and tell her not to go to work. It's that simple"

"My battery's dead" Mike said grimly. The tears still streamed down his face

"Tell me her number" Chris said.

" I don't know it by heart..but I can log in my contacts..right?"

Chris didn't need to respond. He began the process. In a few minutes they called Ming but her number didn't go through.

"Let's get going to your place, we have to hurry" Chris said

They hopped on a taxi and Mike gave him his house address. The taxi began to go as fast as the law allowed. Just then, Chris felt his tattoo moving and his black eyes turned golden. The same colour the tattoo glowed.

"There's a traffic jam. Turn right here" Chris said

"What do you mean, that's the longer route" Mike said.

"Yeah kiddo, my app says.." the driver said

" shut up and drive" Chris said as he turned around and looked at Mike. Mike saw his eyes and immediately understood. He knew Chris had seen a premonition.

They got to Mike's house and learnt from his dad that she wasn't going to work today. They felt a huge sense of relief. They both sat down as Mike's dad lectured them on why they shouldn't leave the house without telling their parents.

"Your mom called me, Chris. She was so worried about you. I hope nothing illegal happened at the party?"

"If it did happen, we wouldn't tell you" Mike said as Chris let out a chuckle

"Speak for yourself, Christian is a honest kid" Mike's dad said as he chuckled "isn't that right?"

" I feel I'm more loyal than I am honest" Chris said as he looked at Mike.

"Rare to see you two working together" Mike's dad said " I'll let you off the hook with a warning... I'll give your mom a call"

Mike and Chris went to Ming's room and found out she wasn't there. They quickly went to Mike's dad and asked for her whereabouts.

"Ohh, she went to the store to get some groceries for the house". It was 8:24. chris and Mike decided they would go check the store and watch her.

"Hold on" Mike's dad called "here's some sushi before you go"

Chris stayed frozen to the spot.

"Su..su..Shi"Chris stammered

"Yeah, the fabric industry partnered with Hwang sushi to provide free sushi to employees. They've built stores beside all our major companies"

"What is it?" Mike asked, he was now very concerned because Chris looked shaken

"We need to go now" Chris said as he ran outside. They add slightly more than an hour to go

" I saw a sushi stand right beside the industry that blew up"

Mike and Chris ran outside. The store was about 45 minutes away if you walked. They got there in half the time.

They couldn't find her anywhere. They searched and searched. It was now 9:46. They had checked two of the closest industries. Mike used his dad's name and card to get in.

They were short of breath but kept on moving before they heard a large boom.

Smoke rose through the sky as the two boys stood and looked around them. The sirens wailed and the boys just stared.

"I.. I'm.. I'm sorry.." Chris told Mike. There was no reply.

"What's the point, why did we know if we couldn't stop it" Mike said. He didn't cry. He just walked away. He left and he didn't look back.

Ming had gone to see her friend that worked there. Noone knew what caused the fire. The building was destroyed.

Over the next few months. Things never returned to normal. Mike's dad blamed himself and sank into depression. Mike moved out of his dad's house and got a house in the lower zone. He stopped returning calls and texts.

Chris had experimented with his power and learnt that he could never defy what he saw no matter how hard he tried. Which is why when he saw the premonition of his mom dying he just accepted it and made sure his mom enjoyed her last days.

In a flash, it was February....In the past year Christian had lost everyone he valued and had gained a new ability that he hated. He decided that he wouldn't go to east gorteau.

It was on the day he sent the rejection letter that he was approached by a group of mysterious people.
