Surprise!

I turned to see my brother in his car, waving to me. I cut the call and went to take the passenger seat.

"Acting out a K- drama scene?" I asked, amused by the way he approached me.

"Please! I hate K- dramas."

"Oh My! How and why do I have to deal with your attitude"

"At this point, it's my personality"

"True" I totally agreed with him.

We started driving when the alarm for Seonbae rang. I immdiately called him up .

"Hello?" I heard his voice from the other line.

"Sunbae, is there anything I can help you with?"

"Remember I told you I needed to tell you something?"

"Yes"

"I hope you understand it clearly, okay?"

"Okay"

"Listen to me first. What is so important that you can't tell me tomorrow? I asked informally, but in my professional mode.

He smiled at me, knowing that he would hear such a question.

"What I'm about to tell you, after knowing, you will have to meet the people tomorrow at 10 a.m."

"So what is so important, huh?" I asked him, remembering that I wasn't supposed to be working tonight.

"So you know about the Big 3, right?"

"Yup. YGE, JYPE and SME"

"Who is next in line?"

"Next in line? HYBE Labels?"

"Yes, correct. Now the thing is that they are collaborating.."

"Collaborating? Weird. But what for? An ad? I can definitely create a viral ad. Something like Shop*e."

"I don't doubt you there. Now listen to me carefully. They are collaborating, as in forming a group with 1 representative from each company. So there will be one from YGE, etc., etc., okay? They want 1 trainee from KQE. I did present them with the list of our trainees. When I asked them who they wanted they told me they all want you, Alice"

"I'm sorry. What?"

"Yup. You're brother recommended  your name, after all. His choice is nice."

I think he felt my anger from the phone because the next minute he started saying:

"I- I mean, they said that. They need someone to boost their popularity after all."

I glared at my brother. He ignored me and continued to look ahead, at the red lights. The lights weren't blinding but I must have lost focus because I didn't hear the rest seonbae told me.

"Seonbae, I'll meet you tomorrow at KQE at 9:30 a.m. and we'll talk about the rest tomorrow."

"No problem it must be hard to digest this news. I completely understand"

"Thank you." I cut the call and looked at him, feeling betrayed.

"Why did you do that?"

"You need to know how to survive. Korea is a place for all the people who want to be part of the media. Instead, stay with me and become a part of the entertainment industry."

"Who are you to decide for me? Because you're my brother do you think you'll put me up for everything? Next thing put my name up for stealing when they ask. My studies are not important and so is my consent, right?"

I had tears in my eyes.

"What did you do?"

"Listen, I'm not telling you not to complete your studies. You can still be a lawyer. The entertainment industry doesn't want you for life."

Although he was wrong, he had a better argument. It made my blood boil. Does my opinion not matter?

I kept quiet for the rest of the time. I was not wasting my time and energy over this.
