The Blank Canvas

Y/N POV

The morning unfolded in a familiar rhythm, sunlight streaming through my window like an invitation to a new story. But this wasn't a story I'd weave with words today. My keyboard sat untouched, my usual pre-dawn scribbling a distant memory. Today, anticipation danced in my chest, replacing the usual deadline anxiety. Today was the day of my art exhibition date with Chanyeol.

My fingers flew through my morning routine, a symphony of coffee brewing and the rhythmic whir of the hairdryer.

I texted Yinji, letting her know I was starting to get ready. We had planned to meet at 3:00 PM and snag a bite before the art exhibition and meet Chanyeol there. Chanyeol and I had a dinner reservation at 7:00 PM – but my offer to include Yinji was politely declined. "I wouldn't want to be the third wheel for even a second!" was her response.

A soft chuckle escaped my lips. There was something endearingly theatrical about Yinji's aversion to being a third wheel. It was always "girls' night" or "couple time," with no room for an extra.

I finished getting ready after I put on my shoe, I stepped back, taking a final look in the mirror.

The woman staring back was a stranger – a confident, radiant stranger. The carefully chosen outfit seemed to have breathed life into me, accentuating my curves and reflecting the spark in my eyes. It was a rare sight, considering my usual attire consisted of sweats and t-shirts, the uniform of a writer buried deep in deadlines.

A smile curved my lips. Tonight was different. Tonight was an art exhibition date with chanyeol. Tonight was a chance to step out of the world of words and into one filled with vibrant colors and unspoken emotions.

All that remained was for Yinji to arrive, and our artistic adventure could begin. And then, I could answer the question that danced in my mind – what story would unfold tonight between Chanyeol and me?

But the excitement simmering within me was tempered by the ever-growing silence from Yinji. Unlike our usual, instant exchanges, there was nothing. It had already been 30 minutes since I had texted her that I was getting ready. My initial brush-off of concern now felt foolish. I texted her again saying I had finished getting ready and was waiting for her to reply, 10 minutes passed and still no response.

A wave of unease washed over me. Was everything alright? Had something unexpected come up? Pushing down the worry, I decided to give Yinji a call. As the phone rang, the anticipation morphed into a different kind of tension. She didn't answer, I was about to give her another call when...

*~knock~knock*

"Yinji! Why haven't you been responding to my texts and calls, I was so worr..... Oh....!?"

Thinking it was Kim Yinji, I went on nagging only to find...

"Ummm.. Hey!" I was star struck, I knew chanyeol had the looks but today he had out done himself, I mean look at him.

"Wow! You look gorgeous...!" He said after taking a glance at me.

"I'm pretty sure that should be my line."

Both of us chuckle at the same time, complimenting each other was something we rarely do.

"Umm... Where's Yinji? We had plans to go together, and I thought we were gonna meet you at the art exhibition." I said, hoping to clear my questions about Kim Yinji's unresponsive behavior.

"Oh... about that..., Yinji told me she was running late, so she told me to pick you up and get going on with...... our date." He trailed off leaving a blush on his handsome face as he finished.

I swear this is not good for my weak heart, was chanyeol always this cute... Ahhhhh!!!

Both of us were a blushing mess right now.

"So..., shall we!!?" He extended his hand, which I gladly took. The warmth of Chanyeol's hand intertwined with mine felt both familiar and foreign at the same time. It's not like we never held hands before, but this time it sent a jolt through me, a stark contrast to the usual comfort he gives. Uncertainty gnawed at me. This sudden change of relationship, this unexpected intimacy with Chanyeol, was exhilarating and nerve-wracking all at once.

As we walked to his car, the thrill of the unexpected thrummed beneath my ribs. "So," Chanyeol started, the car engine purring to life, "Yinji said she was finishing up something really important. Didn't want to hold us up."

Forcing a smile to mask the flicker of concern for Yinji. I offered a small nod, the worry about Yinji now had momentarily overshadowed by the unexpected turn of events. "It's alright," I mumbled, trying to shake off the lingering concern. "We can check in with her later."

The city blurred as Chanyeol drove, the familiar streets morphing into streaks of color bathed in the golden light of the setting sun. I couldn't help but steal glances at him. His profile, softened by the warm glow, seemed even more captivating than usual. A nervous energy crackled beneath my skin, mirrored in the way he tapped his fingers restlessly on the steering wheel.

"We still have time before the exhibition starts, should we go somewhere for a quick bite?" I asked, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between us.

"Sure, let's go to this rooftop café I know," he said, a shy smile gracing his lips. "It has a beautiful view of the city, you'll love it."

My heart skipped a beat. A rooftop café, a breathtaking view, and Chanyeol by my side – it felt like stepping into a romantic movie, and I couldn't deny the fluttering in my stomach.

I'm already pretty much satisfied with how things are going....

"OK! LET'S DO THIS!!" I said to myself, Ready for anything that was going to happen tonight.
