Chapter Four: When We Became Friends

...I stare at my phone pondering whether I text Xavier or not....

...'Til my phone dings — it's from Xavier, and the text reads, "Hey."...

...I smile, although it was a simple message — he was thinking of me enough to text me. I had butterflies in my stomach just at the thought....

...I reply to him and we talk for a few minutes. Then he asks, "Do you want to meet me at the park today?"...

...----------------...

...At the park, we meet at the bench again — it has now become our spot....

...I'm greeted with his adorable smile and shiny eyes....

...We look at each other and the cold breeze which normally cools me down, makes me feel so hot....

...Xavier is standing before me, and I know I've talked about this enough, but I stare into his eyes because of the way the sun makes them shine....

...----------------...

...Xavier and I walk around the park, talking, laughing and sharing memories....

...Xavier was born with heterochromia — a condition he heavily depised....

...He talks to me tenderly, his voice is soft and gentle — it's lovely....

...He hated how others made him feel so different because of the different colors that are his eyes....

...----------------...

...Then Xavier pauses, "Why do you like my eyes so much?" he eyes look hopeful yet sad....

...I take a step closer to him, my hesitation — dead. "I don't like your eyes," I began, this caused him to look sad, but then I smiled, "I love your eyes, they're the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I can't explain why I love your eyes so much — but they captivate me."...

...With no words to say, he smiled. "Others told me that my eyes were hideous, that my eyes were—," before finishing his sentence, I cut him off. "A type of unique beauty that you don't usually find?"...

...Xavier stops in his tracks and looks me in my eyes. My smile is genuine. I am in love with his eyes, I don't care if they're mismatched, I don't care if they're something different. "You don't need to look like everybody else, how else would people see the uniqueness you have?" I told him....

...----------------...

..."No one has ever said that to me." Xavier said, his voice quivered and his eyes — I saw tears....

...I smiled at him and before I could utter a word, his body pressed against mine....

...His arms were wrapped around my waist, his face buried in the crook of my neck. The sound of his sniffling and light sobbing making its way to my ears....

...I hug him back, "Oh, Xavier," I whispered, "It's all right, don't cry." Xavier responds with a soft chuckle as he tightens the hug — He's fine....

...----------------...

...Soon, we let go of each other, he looks me in the eyes and I wipe away a lingering tear....

...As my hand lays upon his cheek, he leans into my touch, "Thank you." he told me kindly, his smile sweet and tender....

...We stay like this for seconds — his eyes on mine and mine on his. I'm guessing that looking different was somehow his fear....

...We soon began walking and talking, our hands were kept to our sides. Yet he keeps touching his cheek — smiling whenever he does and I thought, "My touch comforts Xavier."...

...----------------...

...Xavier and I share embarrassing stories and take multiple pictures....

...I tell him about the day I was in the park and how I saw two flowers which reminded me of his eyes....

..."Hydrangea and Blue Daisy." he recalled — he remembered, "Teal." he said, "Green and blue make such a lovely mixture."...

...I smile, knowing it's true, I then ask Xavier a question, "What color do you think we can make?"...

...----------------...

...He laughs, nudging me gently, "I see you remember my mysterious question."...

...Laughing, we both dismiss it. Though I already have an answer and I think it's love....

...Hours fly by, now we're laying on the grass, tossing and turning, having a fun outdoor lesson....

...That day soon passes and I'm laying on my bed. Xavier is the only boy who I can think of....

...----------------...

...Days skip by — Xavier and I always hang out....

...Minutes run past — we both talk for hours....

...Weeks jump by — we're friends and there's no doubt....

...Every time we're close together — his scent is one of a flower....

...----------------...

..."I don't care if you're different — to your eyes, to the color of your skin."...

..."I'll love you for who you are, and what your heart carries within."...

..."I don't want you to feel out of place because of the horror people called your eyes."...

..."Nor do I want you to look like everybody else, because their hate will be their demise."...

...----------------...

..."I'm in love with the glow I'm met with, the eyes which always shine."...

..."I'm captivated by the smile I'm greeted with, the love that stays genuine."...

..."So, if you think for one second that I'll hate you based off what I see."...

..."Then, you're mistaken — which means you hardly know me."...

...----------------...

..."I don't care if you're different — to your eyes, to the color of your skin."...

..."I'll love you for who you are, and what your heart carries within."...

..."I don't want you to feel out of place because of the horror people said was you."...

..."Nor do I want you to look like everyone else, because the love I have for you, will forever shine through."...

...----------------...

...The months Xavier and I spent together were magical and great....

...Though, there's love we try to hide and I know we can't pretend....

...In the end, our relationship is good and for now, it's awesome that way....

...But who knew that meeting at the park would be when we became friends....
