After what happened, working was a challenge. The hotel was crowded and so was my mind.
I couldn't concentrate on the guests, the reservations, the complaints. I could only think about him. In his face, in his voice telling me. “I am your fiance” and then in his bite that still hurt on my wrist.
I tried to ignore the pain and confusion he had caused me and tried to pretend that nothing had happened, but it was useless. I couldn't forget.
"Hey! Earth to you?" Amanda said and I looked into her brown eyes. I think I had been staring at that empty juice box towards the cafeteria refrigerators for a while.
"Sorry, I was distracted." I tried to disguise my nervousness. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
"I wanted to know if you're okay." Amanda said, with a worried expression. “You look tired and dejected. Did something happen?"
“No, nothing happened.” I lied, forcing a smile. There was no way to say that a werewolf showed up at my door saying that I'm his fiancee and that he bit me. “I'm just a little stressed out from work. You know how it is, right?”
"Yeah, I know." Amanda agreed, but didn't seem convinced. "But you know you can count on me, right? We've been colleagues for years. I'm not going to judge you or criticize you. I just want to help you."
“I know and thank you very much.” I spoke. Yeah, I definitely couldn't tell anyone about that. "But I'm fine, really. Don't worry about me."
"Alright then." Amanda said, sighing.
She gave me one last smile and left, leaving me to my daydreams. I looked at my watch and realized it was time to go back. I had to try to stay focused until I got home. As much as I hoped the wolf would be there so he could finish explaining the craziness he was saying, I also hoped he wouldn't be and it would all be figments of my imagination.
It seems that after my lunch the reception doubled the clientele. I went back to my post, trying to forget my problems and focus on my work. But it was hard. Every noise, every shadow, every look, I thought it was him. That he had come looking for me, but he did not appear. Nobody showed up. Just guests, staff and suppliers. The normal routine of the hotel.
I served customers, made reservations, resolved complaints. I did my job, as always. Until it was time to leave and a shiver ran down my spine.
I took my bag and left the hotel, looking around apprehensively. I didn't know if he was following me and if he had been doing so for a long time. But I walked cautiously to the station.
I got on the train and looked for a place to sit, avoiding looking into other people's eyes. I never liked to draw attention to myself, that day would be no different. Somewhere along the way, I untied the scarf on my wrist to see how the mark was doing and saw that the bite was still there, red and sore.
It was proof that everything had happened. That he was real.
I arrived at my station and got off the train, hurried. There was a huge dilemma in my head, because I wanted to clarify all that, but I didn't want to either. It was as if two people were arguing inside me.
When I got to my apartment, I opened the door and found nothing, I felt relief and frustration too. But as soon as I walked in and locked the door I felt his breath on the back of my neck and his hands rested on the wood trapping me there.
"How was your day, my dear?" he asked in his thick voice, sending a shiver down my spine.
“What a scare,” I said, feeling my heart pounding. “Aren't you leaving?”
"Yes, as soon as you pack your things and come with me."
I turned to look into his eyes and realized it was a terrible idea, for his gaze was too attractive and drew me further into his midst.
"What happens if I refuse?"
He calmly considered my question. His eyes rolled slowly during his internal speculations and he said:
"Disorder, death, rebellion." He numbered the consequences. “This is too important an agreement to be broken.”
"And why does it exist?"
"Did you know of my existence until I came here?" I denied. I still tried to get out of there, but he slid his hand to my waist. — Simply because we live in harmony with humans.
"You live among humans?"
"The vast majority, yes."
"What about the rest?" I asked, getting more and more curious. I felt him press my body against his while my heart seemed to be racing.
“They live where we are going. Where I rule."
"You're a king?"
"I am the Alpha." He said proudly. “I command my pack, which is the largest and most powerful of all. We live in an isolated region, far from humans and other supernatural beings, and we have our own laws, always respecting the main one of all.”
"And you want me to go with you to this place?" My question brought the big man's face close to mine and I felt his minty breath on my face as he nodded. "You want me to leave my life to live with you and a bunch of dogs?"
He laughed at the way I spoke, but soon assumed a more serious posture.
"Yes I want." He said firmly. "I can only have heirs with you."
"But I don't know you." I said distressed. “I don't know anything about you, werewolves or this agreement. I don't even want to have children."
He looked into my eyes, with an intensity that made me tremble. He brought his mouth to my ear, making me shiver.
"It's not something we can choose." He whispered in a husky, seductive voice. "Look at me."
My eyes connected with his and a stronger shiver ran through my body making me feel a mixture of fear and attraction. I didn't know what to do, as a strange hypnosis paralyzed my body as if it were a spell holding us to each other.
“You feel it, don't you?” He asked, getting closer to me. His lips touched mine and an explosion of feelings invaded my body.
