I let out a thunderous laugh, bending over with laughter. The presence of a huge man in my apartment was scary, but he didn't look bad with that bizarre matter.
"What's so funny?" he wanted to know, while I couldn't stop laughing.
"I already figured out what's going on," I said. "My mother paid you to play the character in her story."
Christophe winked and in an incredible move, jumped off the floor, falling on top of me. He balanced himself with his arms around me and looked at me mischievously. His mouth rested on my ear and he whispered:
"Do you think I'm acting?" he provoked me. My heart was racing and I felt every inch of my body vibrate. A chill went through me when he let out a low growl. "You belong to me, Diana."
He said my name for the first time. His voice was so powerful it made me lose my senses.
He wouldn't have trouble finding out my name, as I always wore my badge when I saw him. But he also knew where I lived and moved with superhuman speed. I was starting to give credence to his story.
"I think I'm having lucid dreams." I put my hand on his chest and Christophe ran his eyes from my face to my fingers in a move so sexy that it set my heart racing even more.
"Your body already understands who it belongs to," he said, looking deeply at me again. "You could make things easier too."
"Maybe I fell asleep fiddling with my cell phone and I'm still stuck in the dream or nightmare." I thought out loud.
"It's nothing like that. It is the purest reality." He stated, demonstrating a certainty that frightened me. "I am the creature of the stories they told you as a child and you are my destined mate."
"This is crazy." I tried to break free from him, but he held me tight. "You can't be something like that. These things don't exist."
"You hear me growling, don't you?" he whispered with a seductive smile. "You shouldn't be so stubborn since you are the only woman who can complete me."
"You are delusional." I protested, feeling the heat of his body enveloping me. "You need help and I need to get out of here."
"My dear, you're not going anywhere." He stated, his right hand squeezing my waist tightly, drawing an involuntary moan from me. "You are mine, Diana. See how your body knows that."
He lowered his lips to my shoulder and that paralyzed me even more. I felt a kiss over my clothes sending shocks through my body.
"What is…" I tried to speak, but when he grabbed my wrist and licked the area, I passed out. I felt a sharp pain in my skin and his bite made me scream.
He released my wrist and ran his hand through my hair, pulling me closer. My body was inert at a moment that belonged only to him. I felt the blood run down my wrist and the heat from his body warm me up. Christophe whispered in my ear, his voice hoarse and dominant:
"Just taking what is rightfully mine."
I woke up hours later with a massive headache. I was in my room, covered in my newsprint duvet. Darkness was already setting in.
I got out of bed, confused and scared. What had happened? Was it all a dream? Or a hallucination? I looked at my wrist and saw a bite mark, still red and swollen. It sent a shiver down my spine.
I tried to find any justification for it and even created illusory moments in my head where a dog had attacked me so that this story wouldn't be real. However, there was no denying that it was not a dog. It was him. The man who had broken into my apartment and reinforced my family's absurd bedtime story.
I couldn't accept that. It was impossible. A great and absurd madness.
I picked up my cell phone and saw that I had several missed calls from my mother. Right below she had sent a message.
“I'm glad everything is working out”. She was saying, leaving me even more confused. The sound of something falling in the other room alarmed me.
I dropped my cell phone and went to the living room, my heart racing. What I saw astonished me. Christophe was waving a dish towel to disperse the smoke from the pan, and seeing him like that in my kitchen would be hilarious if it wasn't real and scary.
"What…" I looked at the burning pan and went to take it off the stove. I threw it in the sink and turned on the tap. "What are you doing?"
"You need to eat. I keep hearing your stomach growling."
I backed away as I felt him approach me. My pulse was racing and he fixed his gaze on the mark of his bite. He even tried to touch me, but I pulled away further and he growled.
"Don't worry, I won't bite you again, you're already marked" - he grabbed my wrist and ran his tongue over the wound.
I felt the pain subside at that moment and he looked deep into my eyes as he cleaned my wound. Christophe let go of me and backed away a little, but not enough to let me escape. With a serious and intense expression he spoke:
"I didn't mean to hurt you. But I had to do it."
"I do not understand." I spoke in a mixture of confusion and fear. "What are you? What have you done to me? What do you want from me?"
"Humans call me a werewolf." He replied without hesitation. "And I bit you to claim you as mine."
"What does that mean?"
"It's a long story, and you don't have time to hear it now. You need to get ready for work."
He looked at the clock on the wall, which read 3:30 in the morning, and I realized I was late.
I ran back to my room, completely desperate. For a moment I put the supernatural story aside to take care of reality, even though I knew I would be thinking about it all day.
