Episode 14

"Hey, did I interrupt something? Haha," Marina asks.

"No, we were just talking!"

"You seem off today, is everything alright?"

"Me? Strange? That's just your imagination!"

"Amanda! I know you too well, spill it!"

"Fine, but don't scream when I tell you, and keep it to yourself!"

"Wow, is it that serious?!"

"Yes, very serious! Here goes, I... David and I slept together last night!"

"No way, you're lying!!!"

"Shh! Keep it down, Marina, haha."

"Uh... Ms. Amanda?" (Arlete suddenly appears)

"Ms. Arlete?! Oh... hi."

"Your friend mentioned she wanted meat for lunch, I came to ask her preference."

"Oh Ms. Arlete, I was joking, haha. Cook whatever you like, I can tell you're great in the kitchen, and I don't live here to order you around, haha," says Marina.

"Are you sure, Ms. Marina?"

"Yes, thank you very much!"

"Alright then, I'll get back to the kitchen."

Arlete leaves and returns to the kitchen.

"Do you think she heard us?" asks Amanda.

"I don't think so, relax! But tell me more, where did it happen?! In your room while I was sleeping?! Or in his room with your mom asleep?"

"What?! Yuck, Marina, none of those! It was on the stairs!"

"What?! Amanda!"

"I know it's crazy! I don't know what got into me!"

"I knew it! I knew you two were going to do it!!!"

"Yeah, you were right, haha! But now I actually feel kind of bad."

"Now you feel bad, haha.”

"Seriously! It's my mom's boyfriend!"

"What was that this morning at breakfast?! Your mom demanding his credit card out of nowhere!"

"Yeah! It seemed so mercenary!"

"Does it seem that way or did she really mean it? It was weird, does she love him or his money?"

"Ugh, Marina, what do you think?! Though it does seem like it!"

"I didn't say anything, but I'd love both!"

"Marina!!"

"But I'd love him first, of course!"

"Ugh, haha!"

LATER...

"Mom?"

"Hello, sweetheart!"

"Where have you been?"

"Just sorting out some work stuff!"

"Hmm! Why the long face?"

"David's been acting so strange!"

"How so?"

"Suddenly he didn't want to lend me his credit card; that's not like him!"

"Are you upset because he wouldn't lend you his card? Mom, you have money, use it!"

"But I can't spend that much, sweetheart, I..."

"Then don't spend! You've already got everything, why spend more money?! Get by with your own, he's not obligated to lend you his card!"

"Wow, Amanda!"

"What? I'm just saying, look how you spoke to him earlier, it was horrible, it seemed so grabby!"

"What?! Are you calling me a gold-digger, Amanda?!"

"I didn't say that, I said it seemed like it!"

"Hmm! Just what I needed! He's my boyfriend; we're going to marry!"

"But you're not married yet, so behave, Mom!"

"Ha! Okay, Miss Amanda, I will heed your advice!"

"Mom! I'm serious!"

"Alright, Amanda, enough!"

Later, after Marina had left, Amanda was outside the house "getting some air."

"Hey there, been looking for you!" David says.

"David, this isn't right! I mean, I'm sure it's not!"

"What are you talking about?"

"What do you mean what am I talking about? About what we did, it can't happen again. I'm feeling terrible!"

"I understand, sorry!"

"No need to apologize!"

"So... your birthday's next week, any plans?"

"Like what? A party? No, not really."

"You could do something here; a small get-together, a pool party..."

"Hmm... I don't think so, maybe just going out somewhere with Marina and some friends, but thanks anyway!"

"Alright! But... it's going to be hard to forget last night, I thought about you as I fell asleep, it was incredible!"

"David, please... if my mom finds out, it'll be such a mess!"

"I know, but she won't. You're right, though, we shouldn't be doing this. I'll respect your wishes and keep my distance!"

"Thank you!"

"Then I'll leave you be."

"Okay... David?"

"Yes?"

"Do... do you love my mom?"

"Yes, I do."

"Then why cheat on her with me?!"

"That's... let's not ask difficult questions, Amanda!"

"Answer me!"

"Do you love your mom?"

"I asked you first!"

"Answer mine and I'll answer yours!"

"Obviously, I love my mom!"

"Then why'd you get with her boyfriend?"

"Because... I... "

"Exactly! You can't answer, can you? Neither can I," David says as he winks at Amanda and walks back inside.

AT NIGHT...

In the middle of the night, Amanda can't sleep, her mind is on David and what they did the previous night.

"Why did I do that? I shouldn't have! It's my mom's boyfriend, it's so wrong!" she mutters to herself, staring at the ceiling. She gets up from bed, walks to the balcony of her room, watching the rain, unable to get David out of her head.

"I can't believe I'm really falling for him. I need to get out of this house, or it'll happen again! But... I can't deny how good it was on those stairs; he's so good at... No! Stop thinking about that, Amanda!"

She tries to sleep again but can't. She leaves her room and walks down the corridor.

"Is he sleeping? It's so weird to sleep in the same house as him and my mom after what happened. We're just a corridor apart. How is he sleeping? Shirtless... in just his boxers... Did they make love today? Does he really love her? And does she love him?" she ponders.

Without controlling her own feet, she walks straight ahead and stops right in front of David's room. She turns the doorknob slowly and opens the door slightly; she sees Carmen and David asleep. David is shirtless and on his back, one arm over his face; Carmen is turned the other way.

"What am I doing?" she reflects.

She steps in quietly, barefoot. She stops beside the bed, admiring David sleep.

"I must be losing my mind... I need to leave this house soon!" she whispers to herself.

Amanda leaves the room slowly and makes her way back to her room. Behind her, she hears the creak of David's room door and quickly turns around.

"Amanda?"

"Mom?!"

"What are you doing here in the dark?"

"I was... just getting some water, on my way back up!"

"Right, me too. I sensed someone in the room, almost like a presence. Did you go in there?"

"Me?! Of course not, Mom. Why would I? Just got a water!"

"Maybe I'm just imagining things! Anyway, I'm off for a water."

"Okay, Mom!"

Amanda enters her room but waits until Carmen is downstairs before heading right back out to David's room. Once inside, she realizes what she's doing and leaves again.

"Leaving again, young lady?"

"Jesus, you startled me!"

"I noticed you came in a couple of minutes ago."

"How did you...?"

"I'm a light sleeper, I saw you. Back to your room, young lady; I'll be there soon."

"What?"

"I assume that's what you want, isn't it?"

"Not... well..."

"Meet me there!"

Amanda smiles shyly and hurries back to her room before Carmen sees her.

WITH CARMEN:

Carmen goes downstairs to get water, bringing her phone with her. She makes a call.
