Episode 9

After breakfast, David heads to his company. Amanda decides to go to the pool area to sort out some college affairs, taking a seat at one of the tables with her laptop.

"Hi, can I sit with you?" (Carmen asks)

"Sure!"

"Studying?"

"Sorting out some college stuff!"

"It's a long way for you, huh?"

"Quite! How am I going to college now?"

"What if you switch to one closer to here!"

"Hm, maybe! I need to look into that soon, I can't miss it!"

"I know! I'll look into it for you today!"

"Alright!"

"Daughter, I don't want to be like this with you, we're mother and daughter; we should be friends!"

"It's you who starts it, Mom!"

"Always me?"

"Not always, but... mostly!"

"Sorry then! Shall we try to stay without fights?"

"I find it kind of hard!"

"Shall we try or not?" (Carmen says, raising her hand for Amanda to shake it as an agreement)

"Fine, let's try!"

"Great!"

LATER…

Amanda is in her room feeling a bit bored.

"Amanda, dear?"

"Hi, Mom!"

"All good? You disappeared into your room!"

"Bored!"

"How about we go out, just the two of us? What do you think?"

"Where to?"

"First, open this door, may I come in?"

"Yes, it's open!"

Carmen enters the room and sits on the bed facing Amanda.

"We can go anywhere; you choose, David's driver can take us!"

"Hm... okay, I'm really bored!"

"How about... we go shopping?"

"Hmm... shopping, huh? With our own money, right?"

"Ah, daughter, David doesn't mind if we use his!"

"No way, then you use it; I'll use my own!"

"Our own, you mean?!"

"Yes! But we already have plenty of clothes; let's just walk around the mall, just to kill the boredom!"

"Fine! But I'm going to do some shopping too!"

"Okay, Mom!"

AT THE MALL…

David's personal driver takes them to the mall.

"Wow, I love this store; let's go in, daughter. How long has it been since you bought clothes?"

"Ah, Mom, I don't know, just a few months!"

"A few months? Ah, daughter, let's buy some; we have too few clothes at David’s house, you've got a huge closet in your room, and it's practically empty, we should fill it up!"

"Ah, Mom, I don't want to buy anything!"

"Okay, then let's just look!"

"Fine!"

They enter the store. Carmen starts picking a bunch of dresses and sandals, the most expensive ones.

"Oh, Mom? What is this?!"

"What?"

"All these clothes!"

"I'm buying!"

"Mom! You said we were just looking!"

"Ah, daughter, it's just these; I'm going to pay!"

"With your own money, right, Mom?!"

"Yes! David gave me this card, so yes, it's with my own money!"

"He gave you a card to spend as much as you want?"

"Yes! Actually, it's unlimited!"

"An unlimited card?! Is he crazy?! You're going to bankrupt him!"

"Amanda! Don't exaggerate, daughter, goodness! I'm going to pay! Aren't you sure you don’t want anything?!"

"No, Mom!"

Carmen pays for her purchases and comes back with a bunch of designer shopping bags in her hands, grinning from ear to ear.

"How much did all this cost?!"

"Ah, that doesn't matter, daughter!"

"Mom, you have your own money; why are you using his?!"

"Because he's the one who gave me the card, so I'm using it! And now, what are we going to do? How about we watch a movie together?"

"Sounds good!"

They go to the cinema and watch a movie together. Amanda actually enjoys it; it's nice to spend some one-on-one time with her mom without fights and arguments—they watch a comedy and laugh a lot together, something that hasn't happened in a while.

"I died laughing, haha, great film, right, daughter?"

"Yes, Mom, really good!"

"So, do you want to do anything else?"

"No, that's enough for today!"

"Then let's go home!"

The driver loads Carmen's many bags into the trunk; Amanda isn't pleased to see her mother buying so many clothes unnecessarily, all with David's money.

They head back home. David has already returned from the company.

"Look at that! Did the ladies go shopping?" (David asks)

"Your girlfriend went shopping; I just went for a stroll!"

"Ah, darling, just bought a few things, haha!"

"A few things, huh? Haha!" (David says)

"Yes, just a few things, haha! Gonzalez, put the bags in my room!" (Carmen tells the butler)

"Yes, ma'am!"

"Oh, Mom, why don't you carry them yourself?"

"Ah, daughter, not this again!"

"Arrgh! Let me help you, Gonzalez, there are so many bags!"

"It's not necessary, Miss Amanda!"

"I insist, let's go!"

Amanda helps Gonzalez carry the many bags to Carmen's room.

"Why does she do that, huh?" (Carmen asks)

"Ah, let her, darling, she just wants to help!"

"She should let the employees do their job!"

"Let her be, darling!"

"Anyway, I want some juice; I'm going to the cook to ask for it! Are you coming, darling?" (Carmen asks)

"No! I'll go out for some fresh air!"

"Okay then!"

WITH AMANDA:

"Miss Amanda, you didn't have to help; I’m used to these things, haha."

"Do you mind this job?!"

"Mind? Mr. David pays me very well to do this!"

"Hmm! Even so, they should treat you with more respect. My mother didn't even say please to you!"

"Ah, that's normal, Miss Amanda!"

"No! It's not normal at all!"

"Ah, it's okay; it's just her way!"

"Well, let's go back!"

"Yes, ma'am!"

"Please, just call me Amanda, okay?"

"As you wish!"

Amanda heads to her room.

"I miss Marina so much already!"

She says, lying on her back on the bed and calling Marina.

📞

"-The prodigal flower appears! Became rich and forgot about your best friend!

"-Stop it, Marina, haha! Sorry, there's just so much going on!

"-I can imagine, friend! And how are you? Like it there?

"-Ah, I do, yes, it's nice, I'm just a bit bored, I miss you!

"-Ah, friend, me too! I was thinking of coming to see you this weekend, could I?

"-Of course! I'll send someone to pick you up!

"-Ooh, fancy, haha! And college?

"-Ah, it's way too far for me to go now! I'll have to switch to one closer to here!

"-So, have you decided to stay there?

"-I don't know! I... I still have a few days to think!

"-Think carefully! The place seems awesome!

"-Yes! I will!"

In the evening, Amanda is in the kitchen with Arlete, the cook.

"Miss Arlete, good evening!"

"Hi, Miss Amanda, good evening! Can I get you anything?"

"No, I don't need anything, haha! Are you making dinner? That smells wonderful; may I try the broth?"

"Of course, help yourself!"

Amanda takes a spoon and samples some of the broth from the pot.

"Hmm!!! Wow, this is a lot like my grandmother's cooking! You remind me of her, even though you're obviously much younger, haha."

"Really?"

"Yes! In appearance, the way you are, the taste of the food... it's making me miss her now!"

"Your grandmother, she..."

"She's passed away! I was about 19."

"I'm sorry, Miss Amanda!"

"It's okay, haha, talking with you is like talking with her. It's good I came here!"

"I'm glad to hear that, happy I can remind you of your grandmother!"

"Am I interrupting?" (David enters the kitchen)

"No, Mr. David! Did you need something?" (Arlete asks)

"No, you go on, Arlete! Hi, Amanda!"

"Hi, Dad."

Arlete looks awkwardly at Amanda for calling David "Dad." David just smiles.

"Don't worry, Miss Arlete, I'm just joking with him, haha!"

"No problem, Miss Amanda, haha!"

"Well, I'm going out for a bit!"

Amanda goes outside the house and gazes up at the cloudy sky, which looks like it could rain any moment.

"I miss you, Grandma…" (she says while continuing to look at the sky)

David steps outside and stands next to Amanda. She doesn't notice he is there.

"Reflecting on life?"

"Ah, you scared me! You love to startle me, huh!"

"Sorry, haha, it's just that you're always so lost in thought!"

"I was thinking about my Grandma! Arlete is just like her!"

"Really?"

"Yes! Oh... sometimes I feel so bored, so alone!"

"You don't have anyone else? Aside from your best friend, I mean? A... boyfriend, a casual fling.."

"Who, me?! I've already told you no one deserving has come along!"

David smiles.

"What are you laughing at? I'm serious!"

"You must be feeling lonely!"

"Hm! A bit, it's good to have someone to... um... never mind, I was going to say something silly!"

"Haha, I think I know what you were going to say!"

"Yeah? And what was I going to say?!"

"Someone to... give you affection?"

Amanda looks at him, slightly embarrassed.

"Sorry, I said something silly, haha! But you'll find someone who deserves you, you'll see!"

"Hm! Hope so!"

David looks at Amanda, recalling earlier in the day, her moans coming to his mind, and he lowers his head, smiling as he looks at his own feet.
