The beginning

I suppose you could say the memories were happy, even if it was only for a short while.

"Mummy??" A little girl cried,"mummy??" Until her cry turned to a wail, and tears were sliding of her cheeks,"Mummy?" she promised she wouldn't leave me she pinky promised. The girl headed to the front door in a scrap, knocking over the plants and sending them scattered on the floor.

When the girl reached the door, she could see soldiers all tall wearing navy blue uniforms with red sashes across their front, a golden lion crest resting on their breast. A black moustache was curled at the ends of this man's face, just above his lip none below. And was the only supply of hair on this man's head as he scrambled his words to cover up the truth, I thought it was a good thing for soldiers to come to peoples homes until I saw my mother fall to her knees her hands clasped around her mouth tears sliding down her chalk white cheeks.

As I approached my mother, in order to console her, a soldiers hand held firmly on my shoulder. " Leave your mother alone kid she doesn't need you right now." he said this in a warming manner, but I could see a sinister look in his eyes. What did he say to my mum??

Just then my mum raised her hand in slow motion and just as it raised above her head I felt hands on my waste shoulders and legs my body trembled as I lashed out thrashing left to right "mum?" "Mum?" The cries grew more desperate "mum?" "Help" "help me mum? Their taking me away Mum? Mum?" tears flowed down my cheeks creating a pool on my face as my mum sat their with her head bowed her hand now tucked snug inside her skirt as if rewarding it with warmth after it closed me off to the cold.

The soldiers were snickering on their way back carrying me like a sack and to be honest I no longer thrashed or struggled still too shocked after what I had seen my mother do we weren't an unhappy family right? I thought my mum loved me she would also call me sweetheart "did my mum even care about me at all" it came out as a shallow breathe nothing worse discussing my mum had abandoned me that's all I had to know and that's all I really did know.

"Bang" "uhh" a soldier had just flung the girl into the rear end of a cart stoked with hay and horse poo it smelt like a dung farm, and trust me those stink. "Did you secure the girl?" A soldier asked "yeah we did she looks underfed her clothes are also ratty she'll need a bath before food" and that was that the conversation didn't last long they then talked about their wives and kids until we started the journey to the capital.
