The Darkest Of Days
"Smell anything, Ken?" A young dark-skinned black woman said. "Yeah, zombies, lots of 'em, right on the other side of those trees." A light-skinned black man with cornrows in his hair that came to his shoulders said as he sniffed the air. Ken opened his fist and his fingernails grew into claws."You guys ready to kill some zombies?" Ken asked. "Yeah, like always." The black woman replied. "Yeah, let's go." A Young black vampire with dreadlocks said. The vampire's dark complex skin glowed in the moonlight. "Then let's move, we still have a mission to carry out, and we have zombies in our way." Ken said gritting his teeth. "For the Dragon-Phoenix tri-faction." The woman said. "I bet you I kill more zombies than you Ashley, " The dark-skinned vampire said in a challenging voice. " Kale, you're so on " Ashley replied laughing and smiling. The three of them began to walk into the woods as the night air breezed through the trees. Animal sounds were heard throughout the woods from the hooting of the owl to crickets. Ken began to sniff the air a little bit more. "Someone else has entered the woods, west of our position. we have to hurry up and make it out of here. their group outnumbers us from 10 to three, and we don't know whose faction they belong to whether friend or foe." Ken stated. " I'm not worried, I got you guys, and you guys got me. ” Ashley said. "Yeah, if they pose a threat to us, we'll handle them like a piece of cake." Kale said. "I'm glad you guys have high hopes and high spirits, cause an optimistic mind is the only way we're going to make it out of this situation and continue with our mission. " Ken said. " How much farther till the other side of the woods? "Ashley asked." I can hear us getting closer to the infuriating growls of the zombies, so it can't be far. " Kale said. " It's not far at all, it's just behind that set of trees, let's hide behind those bushes and peel out the scene before we just head in running around like zombie killers with no plans." Ken said. The three of them his behind the set of bushes Ken mentioned. "I count 40 zombies." Ashley said in a whisper. " And half of them are level 5 threat zombies. how bout I go play decoy and lure them with my attention." Kale said." And let you have all the fun? You're crazy, in the head or somethin? I'll go do it ." Ashley said. " Huh? But Ash. Oh no, wait, I see what you mean " Kale said. "Alright, then let's do this." Ken said. "You guys wait for my signal, we have a mission to complete in the Dragon-Phoenix Tri-faction's name. " Ashley said as she began to creep off to the right of their position down the row of bushes to get past the zombies. Ken watched her prep into position and wait for her to look at him to signal back to her that they were ready too. He gave her the signal and she nodded and darted out from behind the bushes. She ran as fast as she could for several feet and then began to yell to get the attention of the zombies. "Hey! Over here you undead meat buckets!" Ashley yelled waving her arms and whistling to draw attention from the zombies to her. As the zombies began to take notice of her Ken and Kale stayed hidden and waited for the right time. "Rrrrraaaaaaaaa!" One of the level 5 threat zombies roared as it began to take off running after Ashley. "Yeah, that's right! come after me, you big oaf." Ashley said under her breath as she continued to whistle and back paddling several steps. The rest of the zombies began to follow suit. "Now!" Ken yelled as he sprung out from behind the bushes, grabbed the nearest zombie from the back of the neck, and smashed its head into the ground crushing its skull. Kale followed right after pulling out a sword and cutting off the next zombie's head. The level 5 threat zombie that ran after Ashley began to get closer to her leading half of the horde of zombies to her, she pulled out a handle and clicked it, activating a long, katana like blade made of plasma. As the level 5 threat zombies got closer to her, she sliced its head off with no hesitation. After it's body dropped to the ground she charged at the following 7 right behind it sliced their heads off as well. "That's 8 Kale!" Ashley yelled across the field as she prepared for the next zombie to come towards her. "Damn!, she's at 8 already?" Kale said to Ken. "That's Ashley for you." Ken said laughing as they prepared for the other half of the heard that was approaching them. "You take the right, I take the left." Kale said. "Cross attack huh? let's make this speedy and carry out our mission." Ken said as he ran diagonally towards his right running past Kale and lunged at a zombie ramming his clw like fingers into its skull and landing on its chest as it hit the ground. " Thats the goal isn't it?" Kale said running diagonally to his left swinging his broadsword wildly decapitating zombie one after another. Ashley stood her ground and allowed the zombies to approach her one by one and cut them down one by one slowly. As Kale finished his half that him and Ken split up between them he turned towards Ashley direction." Time to clean up the rest!" He yelled as he began to sprint her direction to reinforce her. On his way over he killed several zombies that he had to pass from Ken's portion as he passed him. Ken killed his remaining few and followed behind Kale. As Ashley had her remaining zombies distracted, Ken and Kale blindsided the rest and flanked them. "what's your count?" Kale asked. "15, yours?" Ashley replied. "It appears we have tied each other this time." Kale said as he sheathed his sword. "Now hurry, we have to reach that outpost and delay this message, the Dragon-Phoenix tri-faction is depending on it!" Ken said as he looked at them both and began to run off and lead the way. "Right!" They both said in unison as they followed his lead. As they ran off in the distance, 10 figures walked out of the woods and watched them run away from the scene that they just caused and fled from.
