Episode 18

Jane, along with the guards under her command, were now carrying several carriages full of supplies. They were on their way to the border, just as Katerina had asked. They had looted the palace and the nobles who supported the empress. Jane also threw some crystals that Katerina gave her. These crystals possess a spell that will cause it to continue snowing in the capital. This is for the purpose of making life difficult for the emperors, in addition to demonstrating that they are not fit to rule. Katerina's plans are to weaken the stability of the emperors so that the people begin to question if Rowan is the right one to take the throne.

“Sir Jane, the informant has returned,” one of the guards announced.

A griffin lands near them. On it came a guard from the marquisate. He informs them how things are going in the capital. As it was said, the emperor is making wrong decisions and wants to force the commoners to share the few supplies they have. Although, of course, they are protesting because the emperor wants to take away what little they have instead of looking for another solution.

“Well, you know what to do. Let them know that the troops are not receiving help either, and spread the word that there is an extra cellar in the palace.”

The informant nods and climbs on the griffin to return to the capital. Now all that remains is to continue on their way and deliver the supplies to Arek, although she imagines that her lady is already there.

From Ketzania’s side, they again suffered a casualty. Two squads were eliminated. Only one man from each squad survived. Both say that the ice witch let them go to tell about her.

“She presents herself as a beautiful woman, but then she freezes everything.”

“She may look like a beautiful angel with golden hair, but she is the devil himself,” another adds.

Of course, Edwin demands that they describe the supposed witch. Both describe a woman with blond hair and blue eyes, beautiful, dressed as a young woman from a wealthy family, but who possesses the power to freeze everything in her path.

“Nonsense, there must be a group of magicians behind all this. The woman must be just a facade to scare us.” Edwin refuses to believe that a woman can eliminate so many alone.

On the other hand, Arek had already returned to the camp. Unfortunately, he could not stay with Katerina any longer. Even so, she promised to see him soon, since she had something important to do first. But Arek was fine, he was able to see her after a long time, and Jack could tell how happy he was.

“I suppose your trip went very well.”

“It was...and regarding the ice witch, we shouldn't worry, if she is on our side.”

“Yes, I imagined so, but what worries me now are the supplies.”

“Don't worry, that's already been taken care of. Let's just take care of what we have now until help arrives.”

“Agreed.”

Jack gathers the generals to be able to ration the supplies they have left. Another one arrives, but as they had discussed, it is true that the emperor has only sent half of what corresponds. It was clear proof that he was abandoning them, even when they are the ones who are keeping the peace of the empire.

Two days later, the supplies sent by the emperor arrived, but as had been said, it was barely half of what they received at the beginning. Everyone was furious. They have been risking their lives for years, they have lost comrades, friends and even family during that war, while the emperor enjoys the good life, but does not send enough supplies for them. It was already an insult to them. If it weren't for their families being in Lutzalya, they would let the enemy through to cut off the emperor's head.

For the moment, they distribute everything as best they can, until the help that Katerina has promised arrives. For three days, the soldiers fought again, trying to stay on their feet, but the concern was evident. There was much discouragement in them knowing that the emperor is abandoning them. But shortly after, they see a parade of carriages led by Jane and the marquisate guards arrive.

“Gentlemen, this is a gift from my lady, Katerina Rosesky,” Jane informs them.

Upon reviewing the contents, there were enough supplies for more than half a year. They did not expect the young lady of the marquisate to help them like this.

“Lady Rosesky must love you very much, Your Highness, just look at this tremendous gift,” Jack mentions.

Although his words were heard by all and they did not stop murmuring, they know that Katerina is engaged to the crown prince.

“You shouldn't have said that,” Arek murmurs to Jack.

“Why not? I'm just telling the truth, this must have been because of you. She wants her beloved prince to come back safe and well-fed,” Jack speaks again.

“To be honest, Your Highness, if what Jack says is true, I think that young lady has made a good choice. Marrying the crown prince would be a foolish decision,” mentions General Graham.

“Nobody judges her for that here, Your Highness...I think that if it were her, she would do the same,” another general offers his support.

And so, everyone seems to support it. They are not judging Katerina, which pleases him because he thought everyone would take her as an indecent young lady by supporting another man.

“I'm glad to know that you give us your support, gentlemen.” A white griffin landed on top of one of the carriages, and on it came Katerina.

She descends, leaving everyone in awe. Undoubtedly, that young woman they had previously seen as a girl was now a beautiful young woman. Of course, they did not hesitate to thank her for her gift and express their support for her and Arek. Katerina thanks them, as it means a lot to her not to be judged.

Arek takes her to a tent so they can talk, as she didn't tell him she was coming to camp.

“Are you going to stay? This is different from what I saw in those small squads.”

“I know, Your Highness, but that doesn't worry me. At this point, you must know that I have already seen the atrocities that a war causes.” Katerina, being seated in front of Arek, does not hesitate to caress his cheek.

And of course, since the tent flap was open, everything could be seen. In the eyes of the soldiers, they looked like a young couple in love and happy to see each other again.

“I admire your courage, my lady, but promise me you'll be careful.”

“I will be. I'm here as support. You must win this war, and I will help you only so that you can win it sooner.”

Arek felt calm upon hearing her words. He likes the confidence she shows.

Jane, meanwhile, has gotten into one of the carriages to rest, because if they are going to fight on that battlefield, it is better to do it already rested.

“Who would have thought, Sir Jane resting. I thought she never got tired,” Jack mentions mockingly.

“I'm also glad to see you, Sir Jack. Now shh, shh...let me sleep.” She closes the carriage door with a lock.

Jack just smiles at Jane's response, but lets her rest. After all, she had a long trip.
