We explore the emotional connection between BTS and their fans. Showing heartwarming instances, inside jokes, and touching concert moments, we highlight the mutual love, respect, and appreciation that defines this incredible relationship.
If you weren’t already familiar with BTS, the global K-pop sensation likely came blazing onto your radar this past June. When Donald Trump planned to hold a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma merely one day after Juneteenth, fans of BTS, better known as BTS ARMY, got to work. As Trump bragged about expecting one million attendees, BTS ARMY jammed the signal by RSVPing in droves for the event, seemingly resulting in a sparsely filled auditorium with less than 19,000 attendees. If you’re surprised to learn that K-pop fans could humiliate the leader of the free world, then you don’t know much about the seismic power of K-pop.
Members of BTS ARMY aren’t the first group of fans to find community through their shared passion, but they are uniquely organized into harnessing that passion into real social and political action. ARMY isn’t just a fanbase—it’s perhaps more accurately described as a global social justice movement, responsible for everything from regrowing rainforests in the band’s name to raising money to feed LGBTQ refugees. In our Winter 2020 cover story, the stars of BTS sound off on their deep devotion to their fans, who have channeled the band’s message of positivity to become a worldwide force for social good.
“We and our ARMY are always charging each other’s batteries,” RM told Esquire. “When we feel exhausted, when we hear the news all over the world, the tutoring programs, and donations, and every good thing, we feel responsible for all of this.”
The news of ARMY’s good works is profound. Through small, grassroots donations, ARMY has adopted endangered whales, funded hundreds of hours of dance classes for Rwandan children and raised money for digital night schools to improve rural children’s access to education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The members of BTS describe these good works as their highest calling—more important even than the music itself.
“We’ve got to be greater; we’ve got to be better,” RM said. “All those behaviors always influence us to be better people, before all this music and artist stuff.”
How I became part of the Army
You might think I'm lying but I never knew BTS till one night my sister was on Facebook and she showed me a ticktock edit about Suga and I did find him cute, but it was the song that caught my attention. The next day I quickly searched it up on the TV because the whole night the tune I CAN MAKE IT RIGHT. Starting from that day I fell in love with their songs because it made sense. Suga opened the door and Kim Tae-Hyung closed it. You might think
that I like them just because of their looks but no.. So, obviously if you are a devoted fan, you are an Army. But, once you begin to follow BTS, you realize a larger-than-life image exists between BTS and ARMY.
The special bond between BTS And ARMY
Once you begin to follow BTS ardently you'll notice BTS and the ARMY share a special bond, much like a family. BTS never back out in expressing their love and what ARMY means to them. RM once said if their songs could reduce ARMY's pain from 100 to 99 even, their existence would be worthy. And once he said wherever you are, wherever we are, we are one. Jin said it's because of ARMY we exist. J-Hope recently said we have been together for seven years. He also said the ARMY is special for BTS. Suga had told ARMY to keep their fourth finger empty as he was going to marry them. Everyone thought it was a joke but for Speak Yourself [The Final] Big Hit Entertainment released BTS/ARMY engraved rings. Four years later Suga was seen wearing the ring keeping his promise.
Jimin says ARMY is his hero and he can't live without them. V once said I purple you during the 3rd Muster Fan Event. A while later he told purple is the last color of the rainbow. He said purple means to trust and love for a long time. Then he said he made the trust line up but we purple you means BTS trusts and loves ARMY for a long time.
BTS are a K-pop band and worldwide famous for their songs. To say their songs are the same as all is totally wrong. BTS are not famous for love songs or dances. The ARMY cherishes them because they have inspired them in one way or another. And the most important part of inspiration is their songs.
N. O
In the track N. O, the BTS talk about the education system injustice putting enormous pressure on the students to get into the best schools. BTS questions why put off your dreams? Why not say no? "Dope" is another track that inspires you to spend your time in something important rather than a party. One line from the song is.
I worked all night, every day, while you were out clubbing.
Not Today
Last but not least, over the seven years they have released 200+ songs till now. "Not Today" lyrics are really inspiring: If you can’t fly, then run.
Today we will survive.
If you can’t run, then walk.
Today we will survive.
