The first meeting

The night was cold and quiet, everyone was on their phones either checking out the social media or watching a movie or chatting with friends. I was just there scrolling through the phone. it was so boring that I had nothing to do, no one to talk to. My name is Stella, 20years old and I'm in the university, studying medical science. I live with 4 roommates, Lucy, Brianna, Stacey and Jade. I'm also single.

"Hey!" , a voice suddenly screamed, I looked up and saw that It was Lucy, "The dinner party date has been fixed, it's going to hold on the 19th this month". Everyone got excited and was already making plans on how they would attend. Meanwhile, I wasn't even in the mood to go for it. I said to myself "what's the need of losing a night of sweet sleep for a lame party". Jade upon hearing me said, "what's with you, let's all just attend and have fun. We all had a rough semester, so let's loosen up a bit and have fun". I looked her in the eye and I saw the anticipation in her eyes, as though she was a baby waiting on a candy bar. "okay, I'll attend the stupid party, but I have nothing to wear. How can I go for a dinner party with nothing to wear". She looked at me with so much joy in her eyes and then without any thought she said "You can just go to your family house and get a dress there. I also don't have anything to wear but I want to attend". Sigh, Alright then we will go tomorrow and give it a check.

The next morning, we both got ready and headed for home. We arrived earlier than we thought. After greeting the parents and have a little chat with them, we headed inside the room and began searching for the perfect dress. It took a while and alas we found one beautiful Navy blue flowing gown, it only has one strap and a beautiful silver broach on the strap, with a lacy overlay. We continued with the search for another and found an elegant backless silver long sleeve gown. After we found the two, our search was finally over. We went back to school and I was suddenly feeling like I might actually enjoy the party.

After all the arrangements for the clothes, we got our shoes ready, and our hair was also ready. Since non of us knows how to put on makeup and our roommate Brianna who is the makeup artist stepped out, I had no choice but to contact my cousin. She affirmed that she would come around later that evening and start the makeup and I was already pumped to go. Suddenly it was evening and she was nowhere to be found, I called her but she wasn't answering or returning my calls. I was already in the mood to cancel going for the party. Then she called back, "Stella honey, I'm sorry. I can't make it , I forgot I had an appointment with someone. I can't come to the place again". I was disappointed and when I told jade and Lucy, they were also not in the mood anymore.

"what's the matter, you all must go for the party, you can't just give up because of a minor setback", Stacey said. At that moment our next door neighbor came into the room and asked why we aren't dressed yet. We told her everything and she felt sad. "I can do your makeup, but I'm not a professional, so don't..."

That's lovely, Jade cuts in, "we just want to attend the party, it mustn't be something extravagant". We all sat down and she made us up. After that we all dressed up and went outside to take pictures before heading out.

It was already 9pm and there was no taxi on the streets. We tried booking a ride but it was also a failed attempt. I was already getting tired of everything. It was like the universe didn't want is to go for the party. I was nearly going back inside , when our neighbor suggested we ask one of our other neighbor for a ride. "it's quite late, I don't think he would want to give a ride to us." I said. "well you'll never know till you try", said Jade.

As I gathered the courage to knock on the door, they were all looking at me and smiling deviously. "who is it", a man's voice echoed. "it's Stella, your nextdoor neighbor". I said, already trembling in fear. The door open and a huge dark, handsome guy came out. I wasn't sure of what to say to him and I was still scared to talk at the time. He looked at me and chuckled. I felt relived a bit and then I suddenly got what to say. "Hello, good evening...em... well em, we are going for our school dinner party and we don't have a ride, I was thinking if you would please drive us there, if you don't mind. We couldn't get a ride to the place".

He smiled and said, "Just get your things ready, I will be out in 5mins". Hearing that from him, I was so happy, he really agreed to take us. We got our things ready and left for the party with him. He dropped us off and left, we thanked him and went straight inside the venue. it was 10pm and the party hasn't even started, it was so boring.

An 1hour 30mins later, the party started. "Let's welcome our graduates!!". The people were all clapping, the DJ playing a celebration song and everyone was cheering. I was just sited, sad and worried that my lame phone was already dead. Then I looked up and I felt a weird connection, like the universe pulling me towards a certain person. A tall dark handsome young man, dressed in an dull yellow suit jacket, with black turtle neck and black trousers. He was looking like a jar of chocolate just waiting to be devoured. " woah, who the... woah, his dressing is so amazing", I said. "who?, what are you talking about? " Jade asked. I was still staring and drooling. "I'mma get his number or he's gonna have mine before the end of this party, I bet you".

I told Jade. Laughing at me, Jade said " Go for it, let's see if you would really get it."

With the party going on and him, roaming around the room, the party didn't seem all boring any longer. My eyes and mind was fixed on him. I was trying to find the right time to talk to him but there seemed to be non.

Jade and I decided to go to the first floor of the building and go have a drink there since it was a bar. As we were going up the stairs a weird feeling came upon me, telling me to look back, but I didn't want to. I Ignored that feeling, and immediately as I reached the top I looked at my left and I saw him entering the bar. I was left speechless, I wanted to beat myself up, if I had only listened, I would have had a chance to speak with him. I calmed down and went inside with Jade. Turns out she came to talk to a guy , and I was just left there. "Hey girl, I will be going downstairs for now, I will come up later, let me find Lucy ", I said to Jade. "Okay, see you soon", Jade said.

I went downstairs and as I was entering the room, I saw him standing at the pathway speaking with someone. I had finally gotten my chance to speak with him. As I approached him I was so scared, i didn't know what to say. I just kept walking since I was not confident enough, but then as soon as I passed him something I was urged to turn around. As I turned, the words "Congratulations" rolled out of my mouth. He turned and looked at me, my heart racing as I looked into his deep brown eyes. His expression was telling me that he already found me attractive and the way his eyes sunk, my heart kept on beating faster almost like I he would have heard it if not for the loud music. " Thank you ", he said, with a nice tenor voice that melted my heart. it took all my strength to stop myself from kissing him then and there. "you're welcome," I said to him, still looking into his eyes like our soul connected at that instance. "This is not a good place to talk, can we talk outside in about 20minutes" he said, with a gentle look in his eyes. "sure", I said without hesitation.

After 20minutes , I stepped outside to meet him but I couldn't find him. I was sad and I regretted waiting that long to get his number. I decided to go upstairs and find Jade. As I entered the room upstairs, I saw him taking pictures with some people. I immediately lit up, as I saw him. We made eye contact and I couldn't help but blush. I sat down and waited for a few minutes, and he came up to me. " Hi I'm Tony, it's nice to meet you" he said. I looked up to him, struggling to control myself and I said, "I'm Stella, it's nice to meet you too". With a smile on his face, he asked me for my number and we chatted for a little while before he was called. I felt like I had achieved my goal and I was ready to go back home. Through out the party I didn't get to see him again, I just want to go home and power up my phone. It was around 5am the next day and we got up and left the party.
