Episode 19

“Okay, let’s see what information you have.” Leandro sat down in front of Fabrizio and looked at the laptop screen. It had been a day since Luka disappeared. Finding him was becoming complicated, even when he had put half of his men on it.

“I followed the security cameras of the stores around the university and I was able to find him,” he explained, as he played the video he had previously edited, using all the security cameras, “He runs this way and turns here. The boys were chasing him in the van; however, the street under construction forced them to turn back.” He rewinds the video a few seconds and Luka can be seen entering an alley. “And this was the last time he was seen.”

“And what about the people who took him?!” Leandro shouted, completely desperate.

“I spent all night with my eyes on the screen and this is what I found.” Fabrizio rewound the video to the beginning. Leandro watched it as if he were asking: Seriously? We already saw that, it’s useless. But he furrows his brow as if to say: look closely, motherfucker. “See there? Well, following the route Luka escaped…”

Fabrizio continued pointing at the screen and pausing from time to time, until Luka entered the alley, two people, dressed in homeless clothes, were behind him. Reaching the alley, they both made sure there was no one around. After going for him, on the other side of the alley, a minivan was parked. A man, in a black lycra shirt and cap, got out of the passenger seat and opened the door so the two people could put Luka in.

“Where did they take him?” he asked.

“They dumped his cell phone to the northwest, indicating that they are going the other way. However, the plates are impossible to see. But…” Fabrizio paused and typed a few things into the laptop, before showing Leandro. “See that? Look at the arm of the one who gets down from the minivan.”

Leandro’s eyes focused on that person. He looked at the right arm, with which he had opened the door, and which he still kept outstretched. Right on his forearm he had a tattoo of a raven.

Leandro remembered seeing that mark somewhere else. He opened the drawer to his left and took out some papers. He searched through the sheets and found a stapled file. He observed the image in the upper left corner and came across the expressionless face of a former convict who had left the maximum security prison in Israel. Although they were a former member of the Israeli special forces, who had deserted and joined this criminal group that trafficked people worldwide.

“But Luka is not an X25, what do they want him for?” He questioned in a low voice, as if the question were for himself.

“They couldn't have been wrong,” Fabrizio said, pulling a cigarette from the pack, “They never make a mistake like that. Do you know how much those bastards pay for a man who can give birth? Millions! They weren't going to risk it for a mere boy.” Leandro's threatening gaze made him gulp, and if he hadn't let the smoke out earlier, he surely would have choked. In the eyes of his friend, Luka was not simple. “What I mean is that Luka was not a wrong target, far from it. He was chosen by someone, and someone who really hates you.”

“I have many enemies, but no one would dare mess with me, or with him. It is well known what family he is from. The Mancinis and Di Marcos support him, do you think anyone would have dared to do this? No, at least not someone national.”

Fabrizio seemed to think things over for a second. He put his hand on his chin and looked at the ceiling. Leandro was right. Although Luka was not directly involved in his paternal family's business, or his brother-in-law's business, he still had their unconditional support. Even that of the Bernocchis for being a, lover? Secretary? It’s all the same, he was still important to Leandro, and that put him in the middle of three protective walls. Three walls full of weapons that would not let anyone harm him.

“A trap? Maybe there was no mistake in kidnapping him, but someone paid them to kidnap him. I don't know, it's so damn confusing.” Fabrizio kicked a beer can on the floor and clicked his tongue.

“I don't know, but I'll ask them once I find them.” Leandro stood up and grabbed the gun that was on the desk. “Take care of finding information about those bastards, contact the people you know on the black market, don't leave any loose ends. I'll go get my men ready, see you tonight.”

Without giving him time to respond, he starts walking. Fabrizio really wanted to insult him and hit him right then and there. What does he think this is? Information can't be had in a few hours, not without money involved. However, he contains his anger and focuses on his work. He wasn't friends with Luka, they weren't even acquaintances, but seeing how worried Leandro was about him, he wasn't going to delay. After all, the boy might not even be alive.

...----------------...

Leandro gathered all his men and the four mob bosses were seated at a round table. Vicenzo, Elisa, Alessandro and he, were planning the attack on whoever it was. They had all searched for information through their own sources, and were only waiting for Fabrizio to arrive to start the meeting.

"Here I am, here I am." Fabrizio came practically running. He placed the laptop on the round table and looked at everyone. Anyone would shit their pants if they saw so many thugs together.

“Good, Leandro, do you want to start?” Vicenzo looked at him as if at any moment he were going to blow his brains out. And he didn't really blame him, he said he would take care of Luka, but he didn't even realize that someone else was following him.

"Fabrizio," he said.

“The information I got from my contact on the black market is very reliable. He said that tonight they are taking a ship to Asia and then there will be an auction in India. We still don't know how many people they are carrying, but they will be leaving soon. Although they only found one X25,” he explained.

“My husband and children have been sent to a safe place, they will not be able to find them, however, Luka is not an X25, why him?”

“Because they were looking for someone else,” Alessandro spoke. “I did some research, according to my informants, these people mistook Luka for someone else.”

“How the hell are they going to confuse him?” Elisa yelled, banging her hands against the wood, “Are they fucking blind? My brother is not an ordinary person.”

“Because it was a trap. Someone hates Luka and wants him off the map, or they used him as a scapegoat,” Fabrizio said. “He wasn't the target, well, yes and no.”

“Damn it! Stop being so damn dramatic and explain once and for all what the hell is going on.” Leandro was getting more and more irritated. His eyebrows were furrowed and his face was completely dark.

“Damian, the person who helped me investigate, said that they were looking for the son of a powerful mobster, who was causing problems for the Crows, obviously Luka is not that person.” Fabrizio turned the computer around and showed them the screen. “A few weeks ago there was a raid in the United States and the leader of the Crows suddenly disappeared. At the moment they know nothing about him, although the organization continues to work under his rules, there is uncertainty in them,” he finished saying.

“And what does that have to do with Luka? He has never been to that country.”

“I don't know, but it's crucial that we get to that ship, or Luka could disappear... forever.”
