Luka drove at full speed on the asphalt, the tires screeched as he took a sharp turn. Emanuele kept his thoughts to himself, Luka's face made it clear he didn't want to be bothered at that moment.
He didn't really know what Luka did for work. Luka had only told him that he was the secretary to a casino owner, however, the appearance of his boss definitely wasn't that of a good person. Of course, he wasn't one to judge people by their appearance, however, there were exceptions.
Luka braked, kicking up dust. Both got out of the truck, and then Emanuele's suspicions were confirmed. The unfriendly men surrounding his house were definitely not ordinary guards.
"Leo," Emanuele heard Luka shout. All the men turned their gaze towards them, and the one he recognized as Leo approached. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"The boss thought you'd been kidnapped and tracked you to this town. We asked about you and they gave us this address," he explained. Although he appeared older than Luka, Emanuele was surprised by how respectfully he spoke to him.
Luka didn't say anything, he just walked past him. Leo felt sorry for his boss, after all, Luka had that look on his face that he always got when he was about to hit him. He didn't understand how Luka didn't have any fear or respect for him.
Emanuele followed behind him. He was also irritated, surely his family was scared to see so many people surrounding their house.
"Luka, son, it's so good that you arrived," Nicole said when she saw them arrive in the living room. Leandro, who was sitting on the armchair with his back to them, stood up as soon as he heard Luka's name mentioned.
"Luka, I was worried about you," he said, turning to face him. The smile on his face was anything but happy. His gaze was cold and dark. However, Luka didn't let himself be intimidated and looked at him angrily.
"Ma'am, I'm sorry for the disturbance," Luka smiled at her, removing the look of contempt with which he was looking at Leandro. "I have to go, I would like to come back another day."
"Of course, you're welcome anytime." She didn't ask the reason, but it wasn't necessary, she already knew.
"Do you want me to take you?" Emanuele was reluctant to let him go, but he didn't say or show it. However, if he could make sure he got there safely, that would be enough for him.
"It's not necessary," he said, "but could you bring my backpack?"
"Of course." Emanuele glanced at Leandro, who smiled arrogantly at him, as if he could read "he chose me." Shaking his head, he put those thoughts aside and went upstairs for Luka's backpack.
"Well, ma'am, it was a pleasure talking to you, I'd like to come another day to continue our conversation." Leandro spoke kindly, as if he were truly a polite person. Luka almost laughed at his perfect performance.
"I would love for you to come, I'll tell my husband and he'll surely agree to work with you." Luka frowned, Leandro had no legitimate business and he didn't want Emanuele's family involved in illegal things.
Leandro turned his gaze to him and smiled. That damn arrogant and warning smile made something clear to him. "It all depends on Luka, I can't guarantee anything if I don't have his authorization."
"Luka, honey, think about it, it would be very helpful."
Nicole's hopeful gaze broke his heart and made him want to punch Leandro right then and there.
That damn bastard!
"I'll think about it...but I'm not promising anything." Nicole smiled.
"Just saying that is enough, thank you."
"Here." Emanuele said, handing Luka his backpack.
"See you later, ma'am." Leandro said goodbye and walked towards Luka, putting his arm around his neck. He looked at Emanuele with superiority and arrogance. They were both almost the same height, so it wasn't difficult for Emanuele to hold his gaze. "Goodbye, boy," he said, "honey, let's go home." Although his face was towards Luka, his sidelong glance was fixed on Emanuele. He loved to see the boy's depressed face and annoyed look.
"See you later." Luka shifted uncomfortably, however, Leandro didn't let him go.
Emanuele nodded. "Take care." Luka just smiled at him, turned around and left, Leandro still keeping his arm around him.
Emanuele watched them get into one of the luxury vans, internally lamenting that he couldn't have something like that. All the men got in too and the caravan drove off down the road.
…----------------…
Luka had remained silent during the entire journey, and Leandro hadn’t said anything either.
“Stop.” Leandro ordered. Leo raised an eyebrow, however, he didn’t dare contradict him and pulled over to the side of the road. “Get out of the car.” Leo didn’t object and got out.
“What do you want?” Luka questioned, irritated.
“I thought you had been kidnapped, that’s why I started a search…”
“You worry about me? Please, don’t be ridiculous.” Luka crossed his arms and turned to look at him.
“Of course I worry about you, if I didn’t, why would I come all the way to this horrendous town?” He said. “But, while I was worried about you, moving heaven and earth, you were with that bastard! Tell me, what’s so good about an imbecile like him?”
“I quit. I’m not going to put up with your stupid scenes of…jealousy? I don’t know anymore. I’m tired, Leandro. I’m completely exhausted from this situation. That last stunt was the last straw. I’m starting university, the last thing I want right now is unnecessary stress.” The anger on Luka’s face disappeared. After a sigh, all he could show was a face of boredom. Of total indifference.
Leandro’s face darkened, and his gaze turned cold. “It’s because of that bastard?” He questioned. Luka didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Leandro could be smart in business, but he definitely didn’t understand people. Maybe, he didn’t even understand himself.
“You’re not even listening…” Luka muttered.
“Is it because of that damn son of a bitch?!” Leandro lost what little control he had and grabbed Luka by the shoulders, so hard that his fingers began to dig into his pale skin. “Is it because of that damn peasant?! Answer me, damn it!”
“Yes, it’s because of him! I’m quitting this fucking job because of Emanuele!” He shouted in frustration. He was tired of contradicting him or trying to explain things, because he didn’t even have to. There was no valid reason for him to give any explanation. “I already said it, are you happy? So please, stop bothering me.” Without saying more, Luka got out of the truck, however, before closing the door, he yelled at him. “Go to hell, Leandro Bernocchi!” Then he slammed the door shut.
Leandro, completely furious, got out of the other side of the truck. “Luka, get back here!” He shouted, however, Luka, who was walking away down the road, raised his hand and gave him the middle finger. “Go to hell, then!” He shouted. It was then that Luka stopped and turned to look at him. Leandro thought he was coming back, however, Luka just bowed mockingly, then turned around and continued walking. “Luka!” He shouted again, but he ignored him.
…----------------…
Luka was walking a little fast down the lonely road, hearing Leandro's shouts in the distance. He took his cell phone out of his pocket, turned it on, and waited for all the notifications to arrive before making a call. After receiving confirmation, he decided to stay on the side of the road.
“Let’s go, I’ll take you.” Leandro said, who had started driving slowly behind Luka. “Luka, don’t be foolish.” Leandro got out of the truck and approached him. “Who are you waiting for?”
“Mr. Bernocchi,” Luka sighed and looked at him, “Why don’t you mind your own business and leave me alone? I’m not your employee anymore, leave me alone.”
Leandro frowned, completely irritated. He knew Luka’s temperament, and once he made a decision, no one could convince him otherwise. However, he was not willing to let him go so easily.
