"What’s going on? Did you manage to find him?”
Leandro was impatient, pacing back and forth, nervously fiddling with the gun in his hand. Fabrizio raised his eyebrows and glanced at the gun’s barrel pointed at his shoulder.
“Can you point that thing away from me? I’m still too young to die." He gently pushed Leandro’s hand away. The mobster clicked his tongue and frowned.
“Can you find him, or not?” He asked again, losing his patience with every second that passed.
“This isn’t a movie, okay? It’s not like I type three times and his location will magically appear." He said, a little irritated by Leandro’s attitude. Years had passed since they last saw each other; however, that idiot hadn’t changed a bit in his personality.
“Hurry up, he doesn't have much time." They hadn’t contacted him or the Mancini family to ask for a ransom, which could only mean one thing; they wanted information about them. Luka wasn’t a traitor, and he knew it, however, he couldn’t guarantee he would keep his mouth shut under interrogation.
“Is he your boyfriend? Or why are you so nervous?” He asked, as he typed a few things on the computer.
“He’s my secretary.” Fabrizio stopped typing and turned his gaze to Leandro, who was sitting next to him, in a leather chair. "What? Can't I be worried about him?”
“No. You can't.” He returned his gaze to the computer and continued doing his job; however, he still couldn’t stay silent. “You don’t care about anyone, not even your brother, what does this secretary have that makes him so valuable?"
“He’s my personal secretary; he has valuable information.” He replied coldly. He was not going to admit out loud that he was very worried about that boy. Not in a million years would he do it.
“Don’t lie to me, don’t lie to yourself, Leandro. We both know it’s not like that." He spoke, very sure of his words. “All the secretaries you’ve had are replaceable. You even killed one of them, because, for you, true loyalty doesn't exist. Come on, Leandro, the fool didn't even open his mouth and he was already dead, why do you think I'm going to believe you?”
Leandro said nothing for half a minute.
“Think what you want." He snorted, irritated. Fabrizio just smiled, pleased with what he had accomplished.
Leandro had never considered how important Luka was to him. He knew he wanted to keep him by his side. He was aware that he wanted to possess his body and mind. It was clear that he was jealous and possessive of him. However, he never thought about it seriously, why was he like that with him?
He was attracted to his body and his face, but only up to a point. He didn't think of Luka romantically, let alone want a relationship solely with him. He just wanted one night with that body that he had been craving for a long time. However, Luka's resistance had complicated matters more than he imagined.
“He’s a piece of meat." He said, confusing Fabrizio a little.
“What are you saying?”
“Luka Mancini, my personal secretary, is just a piece of meat to me." He said, as if he really believed his words. “Once we have sex, whatever happens to him, I won't interfere.”
Fabrizio nodded incredulously. He didn't say anything else, it was amusing to see Leandro Bernocchi struggle to lie to himself and believe those lies. Ever since he met him, Leandro had been stubborn, but he never thought that much.
A few more minutes passed and Fabrizio found the place, rather exact, where Luka Mancini was.
“Bingo, I got him.” Leandro, who had been lost in his thoughts, fixed his gaze and all his attention on the screen, which had some coordinates.
“Why is it a circle and not an exact location?” Leandro looked at Fabrizio, sensing something was wrong.
“The cell phone is off, I can't find its exact location, I can only give you an accuracy radius.” Fabrizio looked at the screen. “When I spoke to Geovanny, he said that Luka had probably been kidnapped by those human traffickers, however, they don't have a location in this place.”
“Maybe they've grown since you talked to them." He said. “Anyway, send me the location, I’ll take care of finding it.”
“All right.”
...----------------...
A caravan of five black GMC Sierra pickup trucks sped down the highway. The coordinates led them to a town on the outskirts of the city. Leandro had a serious face and a cold stare. He thought about everything he read about those human traffickers, and if they somehow hurt Luka, he would make them pay in blood… and not just his, but their families' as well.
After a while, the caravan parked in the center of town. All the locals were stunned to see such luxurious trucks. In addition, the bearing of the people who got out of those trucks was fearsome. The man in front had a dark countenance and a dangerous scar marked one of his eyes. Without a doubt, he was someone who simple villagers were not going to mess with.
The main square was empty in a few minutes, shops pulled down their shutters and closed their doors. Leandro, accustomed to being feared, didn't care in the slightest.
“Search every nook and cranny, even under rocks, if necessary." He ordered. Of course, he was also going to look for some clue to Luka's whereabouts. He looked back at the cell phone, luckily, the town had few structures that would serve as a hiding place.
Dragon's men spread everywhere. He, along with two other people, including Leo, walked towards a minimarket that remained open.
The villagers who were still there moved away from the main entrance and ran towards the back of the premises. Leo inspected the halls and the people behind, while Leandro stood in front of the cashier and looked at her disparagingly.
“Looking for something?” The girl questioned, markedly nervous. Leandro leaned on the glass of the display case and fixed his eyes on her.
“I’m looking for a person." He said. The city accent, coupled with that thick, arrogant tone of voice, made her skin crawl. “He's a young guy, platinum blonde hair, almost white, he has blue, bright eyes, have you seen him?”
“Oh, that boy. Yes, I’ve seen him, he’s very handsome, and he was with Emanuele and his sisters." She smiled, she could still remember that she dared to ask for his number; however, Emanuele’s gaze made her back down. Although that warning look couldn't compare to that sharp look the man in front of her was giving her.
“Leo.” Leandro’s strong voice made him come back right away. "Call off the search, the bastard is with that imbecile." Leo nodded and walked out of the minimarket. “Tell me, where can I find them?”
The girl hesitated for a moment, however, the sad story that Leandro told her made her give him the address with tears running down her cheeks.
When he got out of the minimarket, Leo had already gathered the men, everyone was waiting for his orders. He, with a single movement, made everyone get into the trucks. He also got in and started driving, they hit the accelerator so hard that they kicked up a cloud of dust. After they disappeared in that dusty cloud, the locals finally came out of their hiding places. Groups of five to ten gathered at the minimarket to talk to the cashier and ask her about that mysterious and fearsome man.
...----------------...
Luka and Emanuele, who had stayed one more day, were back in town. Giorgio had asked his son to deliver some things before he returned to the city, Emanuele saw no problem with it as the university had a holiday, and Luka only sent a message to his brother, after all, he was already considered unemployed.
They both got to the town and saw that there was a bit of bewilderment on the faces of the locals. Emanuele approached an old woman, the same lady who had previously given their little sisters candy.
“Did something happen?” He questioned. The old woman nodded. She was very old and had never left the town, so she was a bit scared.
“Some men came here… they look like bad people…” She looked at Luka, behind Emanuele. "They were looking for him." She said.
Emanuele turned his face towards Luka. Luka furrowed his brow, the only one who could go there for him, the only one who could find him was Leandro Bernocchi.
“Where did they go?” He asked the old woman.
“They asked Sophia about your whereabouts, she gave them your home address." She replied, looking at Emanuele at the last words.
“Let’s go." Luka ordered, going to the van and climbing into the driver's seat.
Emanuele said goodbye to the old woman and ran to the van, as soon as he closed the door, Luka stepped on the accelerator. Emanuele grabbed on to whatever he could, while trying to fasten his seat belt.
“That bastard." Luka murmured, stepping deeper.
