Episode 10

Luka was sitting on the back porch of the Russo house. The warm, gentle wind hit his face. He had taken off his cap, and as he had thought, his forehead hurt. Surely, from the blow he had given to Leandro, there was probably a bruise. He didn't want Emanuele to see it, he knew how that guy was, and he would surely ask what had happened, of course, he wasn't going to explain anything. But Emanuele wasn't stupid, and he would start drawing his own conclusions.

"Tea?" Emanuele offered. His voice made Luka put his cap back on. He looked to his side and saw the steaming cup.

"Thanks." Luka grabbed the hot drink and moved aside to let Emanuele sit next to him. He took a sip of the drink and returned his gaze to the beautiful landscape. The sunset sun shone on the horizon, the silence of the place and the wind gave him a feeling of deep peace.

Since his sister's kidnapping, his life, both family and work-related, had become a roller coaster of emotions and problems. He hadn't even had time to relax and return to the monotonous life he had before all that. However, he was a little happy not to be so lonely anymore. Thanks to Leandro, he had met Emanuele. In fact, Leandro wasn't as bad as he seemed, at least not with everyone. However, he seemed like a madman when he put on his "jealous boyfriend" act, and that was getting on Luka's nerves too much.

At first, when they were just one-night stands, he could handle Leandro's jealousy, after all, he had never gone as far as that day. Leandro, no matter how angry he was, always respected him and never touched him. He couldn't deny that he was scared at that moment and was about to cry, but he wasn't going to allow himself to appear weak in front of that man. He wouldn't give him that pleasure. But, thinking about it, and what that jerk was about to do to him, a lump formed in his throat, and he couldn't help but blink back tears.

It was the first time he liked someone, and, unfortunately, he was an idiot with capital letters. But as much as he liked that idiot, he wasn't going to let himself be treated as if he had committed infidelity when they weren't even in a relationship.

"Are you okay?" Emanuele asked, looking towards the dazzling orange sun. He could see Luka's dull eyes and his downcast expression. He hadn't said anything, but his sudden visit couldn't mean that everything was okay. "Something wrong?"

"Many things..." Luka set the cup aside on a garden table and stood up, walking forward and leaning against the wall. He was really depressed, so much so that his eyes were moist.

"Your boss?" Emanuele whispered. Luka laughed. He found it amusing that, even though he hid his emotions, Emanuele always hit the nail on the head with his questions or statements.

That laughter confirmed Emanuele's suspicions. He wanted to stand up, but he knew Luka wouldn't let him get close, let alone tell him anything. He was like that, so distant and yet so close. At times, and speaking figuratively, he felt Luka was too close to him. He could see him, smell his scent, hear his breathing and the beating of his chest, yet once he raised his hand to hold him in his arms, he seemed to be three thousand meters away. He had learned to read him, it was so easy to do so, that it could seem impossible. However, even knowing his expressions and thoughts, he couldn't make him happy. He didn't know how to do it.

"Can we go on the tractor? I've never been on one before." Luka turned his gaze to him, with a big smile, but without any sign of happiness. Emanuele nodded, letting the subject die there.

Luka got off the porch and ran towards the green tractor parked in front of them. When he got on, he saw many levers and buttons he had never seen before. Emanuele climbed on with him and showed him how, and for what, each of the buttons and levers worked.

At the end of the day, Luka was lying on the sofa in Emanuele's room. He was staring at the ceiling, illuminated by the light of the lamp outside. He, although he was there to deliver the gifts, his main motivation for going, was to escape from Leandro Bernocchi. He had never been a coward, but it was the first time he had been in that situation, and, being cornered between his feelings and his pride, he did not know what to do.

She had to think before returning to the city. Leandro was disrupting her life, robbing her of peace and any ability to choose. It was her job, but she had been nonconformist several times and, even so, Leandro gave her an ultimatum; them, or you, it doesn't matter who it is, as long as she opens her legs for me. She told him, when he refused to contact her lovers in turn. She didn't know if he was aware of her feelings, however, she hated to think that he did, and that's why she did all that.

Leandro was only teasing him. He wasn't thinking of reciprocating to anyone, or so he had thought, but Dylan Maxwell suddenly appeared, and he was certainly different. Now that he had come into his boss's life, everything had become more complicated. Not only did she see him at their work meetings, but also at Leandro's apartment or home. Always all over her boss, kissing him, grabbing him shamelessly while looking at him arrogantly. Her gaze seemed to say the same words every time; he's mine and you don't stand a chance. And it's not like he didn't know it. It was more than clear to him. But, still, somewhere in his stubborn heart, he refused to accept it.

It felt really fun. He hated his father for playing family. He hated his father for not loving only his mother. He, without a doubt, hated those kinds of people who went around, having lovers everywhere, but only loving themselves.

"Then why...?"He asked himself in a whisper, as low as the sound of a falling needle.

Why did she fall in love with such a jerk?

He didn't understand it, nor did he want to, after all, he wasn't going to stay by her side. There was nothing good for him there.

...----------------...

"Good morning."Nicole greeted when she saw Luka and Emanuele enter the kitchen. It's still early, you should have slept more."She said to Luka."

"Emanuele said he would show me the town."

"Yes, we'll drop off some boxes of fruit and I'll take the opportunity to show you around."He mentioned enthusiastically.

"We will go with them."Bianca and Frida jumped excitedly into their big brother's arms.

"No, I don't think it's a good idea. Luka and I will be busy, besides, they're bothering him...."

"Come on, brother, let us come with you, mom and dad never take us."Frida blinked several times, trying to convince her brother by making that typical tender face. However, Emanuele wanted to spend time alone with Luka, and those little angels would not leave him alone.

"No, Frida..."

"They can go with us, I don't mind."Said Luka, while stroking little Frida's hair. She jumped with emotion and hugged his waist.

"Well, but change quickly, or we'll leave them."Emanuele said, and they both nodded.

Nicole watched the scene, a smile on her face. Her son had never looked so happy as he did with that boy, Luka. Deep in her heart, she was grateful that Emanuele had a good friend, after all, his life in that place had not been the best.

"Okay, well, let's have breakfast so they can leave earlier."

...----------------...

"This is too tiring. Luka complained, as he brought down the second-to-last box of vegetables and placed it on the floor. I can see why you're so muscular."

"Well, you need to keep in shape, or you couldn't even carry a box."Emanuele placed the last box on the floor and looked at Luka, proudly showing off his muscles. You're a long way from having these strong arms.

Luka wrinkled his nose and rolled his eyes. "Conceited, you'll be softer than ice cream in spring, by the end of the year if you keep it up," he said. Emanuele shook his head, chuckling quietly. "Well, let's go see the town."

"Hands," he said, waiting for the twins to grab him, but only Bianca took his hand.

"I'll go with Luka," Frida said, grabbing the boy's hand.

"Luka, do you want...?" Emanuele was a little embarrassed by his younger sister's attitude.

"I don't mind," Luka looked at Frida, "so, where do you plan on taking me?"

"Let's get some food first, then get ice cream, go to the park, and then go to the lake," Frida replied. Luka turned to Emanuele, questioning.

"There's a small lake an hour and a half from here, if you want to go, I can take you."

"Sounds perfect, let's go," Luka said.

"Yes! Let's go!" the two little ones shouted excitedly.

And so, that day of leisure began.
