Episode 9

Luka ran and ran until his legs gave out and his lungs ran out of air. He lay down on the grass of the park he had come to, his legs trembling and his chest rising and falling frantically. He wanted to scream. He was angry, sad, frustrated. Leandro was a complete bastard. But that bastard, unfortunately, liked him.

"Bloody bastard."Luka hit the ground hard.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, then let the air out of her lungs and stood up. In addition to working, he had gone to Leandro's house to retrieve the gifts that Emanuele left in the trunk. And not only did he not retrieve the gifts, but he threatened him and shot him. If Leandro had not intervened at that moment, he would have been left as a wringer.

But he was not sorry for his actions. If at that moment he had given in to his wishes, he would be treated as just another one of the bunch, of course, he was not willing to be a bed lover.

Standing up, she pulled out her cell phone and dialed Emanuele's number, although he hadn't said anything to her about the gifts in the car, she could tell he was a bit discouraged, after all, he had bought a lot of things for his family.

After a few words, Luka hung up the phone and ordered a cab by app.

...----------------...

It was past two o'clock in the afternoon, Emanuele was in the field, accompanying his father in picking some potatoes. The sun was shining on his beautiful wheat skin and sweat was running down his forehead. His strong muscles were showing as he exerted force with his arms. He was bent over when his mother came running in with her cell phone in hand.

"It's a boy named Luka."He said.

Emanuele grabbed the phone eagerly. He didn't really expect any call from Luka, he thought he would be too busy with his work, after all, his boss had been bothering him in the early morning.

"Luka, I wasn't expecting your call."Although he had a serious tone, he could not hide the happiness marked on his manly face.

\Check your messages.

Emanuele wrinkled his eyebrows a little, confused. He put on speakerphone and went straight to his messaging. He didn't have many contacts and there were only a few unread messages, including those from Luka. He opened the chat and saw the picture she had sent him. It was Luka, smiling and pointing at the sign behind him, when he took a closer look, his eyes widened in surprise.

"Are you really here?"he asked, still in disbelief.

"What an idiot," he muttered. Emanuele heard him perfectly, but he wasn't offended at all, because even though Luka had called him an idiot, a small laugh was heard-, are you coming for me or sending me your location?

"Wait for me, I'll be right there."

Emanuele immediately cut off the call and rushed back home. The potatoes could wait. He went home, and without asking permission, grabbed the keys to the van his father used to deliver goods, and went straight to pick up Luka.

Although he had invited him, he had not expected Luka to come to his hometown so soon. He had thought he would show him many things, but it took him by surprise that he hadn't even prepared an itinerary. Besides, the guest room was filthy, (his mother was using it as a makeshift cellar). He wasn't going to tell Luka to come back, that would be rude, besides, he also wanted to introduce him to his family.

...----------------...

After arriving at the train station, she went straight to where she knew Luka was. She looked around and saw him sitting on a bench, looking straight ahead with a couple of suitcases beside him.

Luka looked beautiful, as always, but with a cold and distant face, which drove people away. He was wearing a black cap, a white shirt and pants of the same color as his cap and tennis shoes. Emanuele approached him, but not before wiping the sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief.

"Luka."He said, half a meter away.

"Hey, did you run all the way here? You're sweating."Luka had never seen him so dirty and sweaty. In fact, even on his tan skin, a slight reddish color could be seen, surely caused by the heat.

"I was working... well, actually, I was cutting some potatoes for dinner."He explained". By the way, what are you doing here? I mean, not that I'm kicking you out, not at all. In fact, I'm very happy to have you here, it's just that it caught me by surprise, you know, with your work and all."

"Don't remind me."Luka grabbed his head, just remembering the face of his idiot boss made him want to kill him". Let's not talk about that."Luka dragged the two suitcases and picked up the backpack that was next to him.

"Let me help you."Emanuele took the suitcases out of his hands and dragged them himself". Let's go."They both started walking among the few people there. They headed to the parking lot and Emanuele placed the suitcases in the back, while Luka got into the passenger seat. Once Emanuele got in, they set off". By the way, you brought a lot of stuff for a weekend."

"Speaking of that... I went to my boss's house for the gifts you had bought, however, things got a little complicated and I couldn't bring them."Luka explained". That's why I decided to buy some gifts for your sisters and your mother, I hope they like them. But don't worry about the rest, I'll make it up as soon as I can."

"It wasn't necessary, but thank you very much, I'm sure they'll love them."Luka felt a little relieved with those words.

When Leandro asked for the car keys, he didn't even think about the gifts Emanuele had left in the trunk, or the suitcase with his things. He was more focused on showing Leandro that he didn't care who he slept with, that he completely forgot to ask for Emanuele's things, and he felt extremely embarrassed about it. He didn't know why Emanuele hadn't said anything, and although he was grateful for it, it also bothered him a bit.

Luka looked out the window, the scenery was especially beautiful. Hundreds and hundreds of meters of fields. There were people cutting in the rows of plants. Luka opened the window and leaned on it. The warm wind hit his face and moved his hair back, the feeling of tranquility made him forget the bad time he had gone through, thanks to Leandro. Emanuele glanced at him, the sun shining directly on his pale face, made him look like a celestial being, if they existed.

"Mom, dad, I'm home."Emanuele entered his house followed by Luka. Two little excited girls came running out of a hallway and threw themselves onto Emanuele, shouting very excitedly; brother. The two little girls hung onto their older brother, while he laughed. Luka, behind, watched that very endearing scene.

One of the twins looked behind her brother and met Luka's blue eyes, he smiled kindly.

"Woah, who's the cute boy?" "She asked, excited. The other girl also looked and Luka's smiling face made her blush."

Emanuele smiled and bent down so the little girls could put their feet on the ground. The two girls came down and Emanuele stopped holding the suitcases, turned around, stretched his arm and pulled Luka to his side.

"This cute boy is Luka Mancini, my friend."

"Hello, your brother has told me a lot about you two, and, you're even prettier in person."The two little girls smiled, pleased.

"Come on, mom just cooked."One of them said, grabbing his hand, Luka couldn't recognize them at first glance, so he just nodded.

"Yes, you have to try her food."The other girl grabbed his free hand". Plus, you need to have a drink, it's very hot outside."

Luka looked back and Emanuele nodded—. Alright, let's go.

Emanuele watched as they led Luka to the dining room. He dragged the two suitcases to a corner of the room and then went to the kitchen. Upon arriving there, he saw his mother pouring a glass of orange juice and placing it in front of Luka.

"If you had told us your friend was coming, I would have prepared something better," Nicole complained.

"It took me by surprise too," Emanuele stood behind Luka's chair and placed his hands on the backrest. "That's why I ran off," he explained.

"You left the potatoes lying there, Emanuele, you shouldn't have just left like that to pick up your little friend," Emanuele's father, Giorgio Russo, said sternly. Luka felt nervous under that harsh gaze. Although in the picture he looked very smiley, in person he was someone completely different.

"Sir, I..." Luka nervously began, but before he could continue with his apology, a burst of laughter made him look around confused.

"Dad, stop teasing him," Emanuele said. Luka fell silent, with cheeks flushed from embarrassment. "Don't mind him, my father is like that. He thinks his jokes are funny," Emanuele placed a hand on Luka's shoulder and gave him a couple pats. "Mom, say something."

"Darling, stop teasing Luka, you'll scare him," Nicole said, taking out some plates from the cupboard.

"Alright, alright. It was just a joke, Luka, don't take it the wrong way," Giorgio smiled. "It's a pleasure to have one of Emanuele's friends here, make yourself at home."

"Thank you very much."

Emanuele squeezed his shoulder and Luka looked up and smiled.
