Upon arriving home, he remembered that his great friend from his college days, Ronni O'Maile, was coming to the island with a friend to visit him. He needed to warn Julius to prepare for the visitors. Even though he didn't like the idea of having anyone on his island.
He found him in the living room, sitting comfortably on the sofa, reading one of his books.
"You've arrived, sir." He closed the book and began to rise.
"You can continue. I just came to inform you that we'll have visitors."
"Visitors? Right now, with the moon so close?"
"It's been a while since I've seen Ronni." He ran his hands nervously through his hair. "He's coming with a friend who's in trouble. I can't send him away without seeing him. I'll tell him I'm on a tight deadline and need to write, that way I'll convince him they'll have to leave the next day. We just need to make sure they don't go down to the basement."
"Yes, sir."
"Let's arrange a nice dinner for them." He looked thoughtfully at Julius. "They'll arrive in two days. Prepare two rooms upstairs for them. When I have a chance to talk to Ronni alone, I'll explain to him that he'll need to leave the next morning."
"Yes, sir." The man's features clearly expressed his doubts.
"Any problem?" Marcus asked, raising his eyebrow.
Julius shook his head:
"No, no... not with the idea... I don't know if Mr. O'Maile will simply turn around and travel back to America, one day after arriving. You know how stubborn he is."
"Just get the rooms ready, yes?"
Julius agreed and went back to burying his nose in the book. Marcus headed towards the office, but stopped with his hand on the doorknob:
"Unless the house is on fire, I don't want to be disturbed."
Marcus closed the office door and settled into his desk. The cold air from the veranda blew on his neck. He turned towards the veranda doors, leaving only a small gap, and drew the curtains. He was so close to finishing the work, he didn't want distractions.
He had been typing for quite some time when he noticed an odor that was unfamiliar to him. It smelled like... he couldn't explain the smell, but it was a mixture of absolutely feminine odors.
He shook his head and tried to concentrate on the work. His keen sense of smell was an inheritance from his father and could sometimes be quite bothersome.
It had been too long since he had a female companion. He was starting to smell women, even when there were no women around, it was time to return to the mainland and have a fleeting relationship.
But not yet. Not with Ronni and his friend arriving in the next few days.
Marcus sighed and pushed the chair back. He stood up and pulled the curtains aside. Ronni wouldn't obey, he would certainly ask for explanations as to why he had to leave.
Ronni hadn't said much, only that he would bring his friend Pires who was facing problems with a werewolf and thought that he could explain what was happening, since he had been researching the subject for years.
Of course, they didn't know what they were getting into.
If they didn't know this, it was up to him to keep his own "lycanthropy" hidden, they would never know the extent of the danger they were getting into.
He went back to his work, to finish his book. He was only falling behind because of the unwanted visitors.
He was so focused on creating his new book that he only realized the time when shadows invaded the office, hindering his vision and his neck became sore.
He got up and walked around the room a little, turning his head to relieve the pain. He was already returning to work when he stopped, attracted by the smell again.
He opened the doors and went out to the veranda. The feminine perfume filled his nostrils. A low howl, almost a growl, escaped his throat before he could restrain it. It was the smell of a woman, and she was on his Island!
The wind brought voices to him.
"How come he doesn't know?" The sound of the female voice was hoarse and contained irritation, but even so it seduced him.
"Well, when we saw the wolf at the airport, I thought it would be better to come straight here. We're just two days ahead of schedule."
The voice was Ronni's and it remained as calm as he remembered, even in moments of "stress" he never altered his voice.
"Okay. So, if he's expecting us, why did you just say he doesn't know we're coming?"
"He asked me not to come."
"And yet, here we are." The woman used a sarcastic tone.
Even so, that voice seemed like caresses in his ear.
"What's your plan now, 'know-it-all'?"
Suddenly the wind stopped bringing the voices and something inside him became restless, wanting him to go to the woman.
The two visitors rounded the bend in the path that led to the house. They circled the garden, heading towards the front door. Marcus hid behind the curtain so they wouldn't see him, without taking his eyes off Ronni's companion.
"I can't believe you brought me to this end of the world... you... you." She dropped the small suitcase on the floor and the travel bag and raised her hands. "Oh! I don't even have words..."
Marcus clenched his jaw at the first sight he had of that woman.
The open jacket only emphasized her full breasts, slender body and thin waist, rounded hips, as well as her buttocks. She wore light jeans and even in boots, he could see her delicate feet. On her face he could see impetuosity, as well as full lips, he needed to kiss them.
"Look! Who would have thought? Little Linda Pires, speechless!" With a wide smile, Ronni put his arm around the woman's shoulders, pulling her to his side with a quick squeeze. This gesture made Marcus want to punch his "ex-friend".
He was angry that Ronni had disrespected his will. That was it. It wasn't jealousy of a woman he didn't even know...
