Episode 1

Friday 25th July, 2003

Dear diary, I woke up early that day to the chipping of birds by my window. So happy that school had closed for the session. In the afternoon as I was preparing to visit Chinaza, Uncle Jude arrived(POV: uncle Jude is my stepbrother from my father) and I ran to hug him. It has been three months since we last met because he's a student at Caleb University, I had to cancel my plan to visit Chinaza because I wanted to catch up with him. My Dad welcomed him home. Later that evening, when me, my big brother whose David and my cousin Jaden were studying, someone farted, and I was shocked and asked who did, but they didn't say anything. Then my dad asked what happened, and I told him. He started asking but no one owned up, my daddy decided that he will beat the three of us every day until someone owns up. So for the next two days, he was beating us, then uncle Jude called me and said," Are the three of you not tired of being beaten every day, why don't one of you own up?" and I thought to myself,"Let me just tell dad that I am the one who did" and so that night, I mustered up courage and told him I am the one. At first, he was disappointed, but he hugged me and apologized for beating us.

Friday 8th August, 2003

Dear diary, I have missed you. did you miss me? I have been so busy for the past two weeks trying to spend every day, hour, minute and second with uncle Jude because he told us he's returning back to school after two weeks and today, I followed Dad to drop him off at school. I hugged him and said my goodbye, he promised to return home before Christmas and that he won't abandon us. I'm missing him so so much that tears are about to drop down from my eyes. Since he promised, I will wait for the next six months which won't be easy. Anyway, I visited Chinaza today but she wasn't happy with me because I haven't visited her since the last time I stood her up but anyway we had a lot of fun. When I got back home, I received the news that my dear grandpa was diagnosed with Cancer but I didn't know what it was then so I just smiled at my mum and dad. the reason I am soo happy today is because I will be entering primary three by September, I am soo happy that I can't contain my happiness but Chinaza told me a sad news. She said that they will be moving out of our estate and she will stop attending our school. I don't know how life without her will be, she promised to be visiting us and calling us. anyway I had a good day, don't worry I won't abandon you. I will always try and check up on you diary. Good night. Oh before I forget, I will start my music lessons at home on Saturday. Good nite.
