Dreaded

I found it challenging to fall asleep, my mind preoccupied and my usual calm demeanor replaced by restlessness. I have always been known as one to think calmly with a level head, and put on a confident demeanor. That was the person I was trained to be and the person I have become, maybe I’ve always been. As a deveaneir, there are no rooms for errors, emotions- no pain, remorse, anger, or mixed feelings. Deveaneirs are the balance of powers in Afsgar’s highest chamber- Ozzfrith, and have a duty of assistance to the guardians by serving as ambassadors between worlds. I was sent by the Council on a mission to find the Tara, daughter of the Grand seer, Rowina, and deliver her to Capitol city (Asthyreah’s capital) safely, no questions asked just execute the order. I was undercover her realm for months, in search of her whereabouts, who knew she would find her way to Afsgar even before my mission began, it’s a wonder! Right at the moment, I was having mixed feelings, mostly of confusion, why her, why does the fate of Great Afsgar have to rest on the shoulders of a young girl? Afsgar’s stronghold and forlons (army of warriors)- the Kiesh, Meldive and Ekdiesh forlons, is more powerful than it was 20 years ago, why then is she needed? She has been missing for more than 19years, how could she possibly be the saviour of a world she has just come to know? A saviour… my very own words echoed in my ears, then it dawned on me, why would we need a saviour??! I couldn’t escape the absyss of thought I had built for myself as I was deep in it. I gave a tiring sign and strode toward the study table in my room and slurped gradually on the wooden chair beside it. Curiosity was not part of my job but I’m human after all. I had to get my act together- we may have gone passed through the hinterlands but danger was still lurking around the corner, if Stryders knew about Tara, there would soon be attempts from the Bernuks and Seeverths(group of resistance movement to Asthyreah’s policies). Caution is highly required I was assigned to bring Tara safely to Capitol city, and that I will do, no questions asked.

I was interrupted by a stirring breeze that whispered through the night into the silence of the room. Strange, I was almost certain I had the window shot earlier. I stood up and paced cautiously towards the window started rattling. I pull it shot with a bang and was about to lock it when I saw small note on the floor, must have been slippe++d through when I was distracted. I picked up the note and read it. It was written in an encoded language known only by High lords, used as means of communication and to conceal information pertaining special missions.

My eyes widened and expression hardened in dismay as I read through it. Still holding the note with shaky hands, I muttered to myself as I repeated the words, though I could hear my own voice drumming in my ears.

What I dreaded the most was happening…Kiesh forlons are under attack! How did this happen? Kiesh forlons are the frontier Army that protect and prevent a breach of the gateway to Overn’s lair.

I quickly picked up my sword and headed out. Then I remembered, can’t have her getting agitated when she finds out I’m gone. So I hurriedly scribbled down a note at the reception counter and gave it to the inn keeper.

“hand this the lady I arrived here with” I requested, dashing to exit the inn, I was stopped abruptly by his question-

“Miss Tara, was it sir?” he asked, I believe to ascertain

“yes, she” I replied almost immediately

“Very well sir, will do!” he said to my hurried back as I swung the exit door open and made my way out, and to the inn stables to get my steed- Night blazer

I mounted it and headed East, that was where said to meet in the message.

Riding, I thought of Tara, she’s a crucial key to Overn’s lair. Everything seemed to be connected to her and she has no idea just how much involved she is.
