Chapter 04

" So I thought of continuing Japanese in College " said Amanda, it has been a few minutes and within those minutes I was able to know a certain amount of information related to my new roommates. Amanda had lost her father two years ago and now lives with her mother and younger brother. Her uncle had been financially helping them which explains the reason as to why he was present today. Just like me both of them are hoping to choose languages as their college degrees.

Emma is the only child in her family and by the looks of it, she is really intelligent. She believes that talking should be done when needed and gossiping and chattering is a waste of time. But despite all that she is very friendly and after a while it seems as if she had become for comfortable around me.

But sadly our conversation came to a hold with the sudden banging at our door....Amanda opened the door this time and suddenly stepped back quickly.  It was then that I show who it was...our final roommate and I have to say that she is entirely different from all of us. She was wearing glasses but not those nerdy type ones, they were stylish and with her long straight black hair and average height, she looked like a model and of course her clothes that consists of a slightly torn down denim along with her dark blue tank top proves it further .

"Yo!! this is room 301 right?" she asked while stepping inside the room. I guess  Amanda and Emma was too stunned to speak and so I answered instead, "Yes it is, I guess you are the other roommate?". She simply nodded her head and then dropped her bag and suitcase near the empty bed. So she will be my bunk bed partner as Amanda and Emma choose the other bed set. The sudden silence in the room with the new roommate's entry was too much for me and so then again I thought of taking the initiative to talk with our new comer. "So....I'm Hope and these two right here are Amanda and Emma ...we all will be sharing Room 301 for the next four years hopefully.  Can I know your name please?" yeah it's better to be polite as I feel a bit intimidated by her now just as Amanda and Emma was from the beginning.  " The name's Stephanie but just call me steph, I preferred to be called like that" she said and smiled.."oh, so she does know how to smile ", I thought to myself. "Nice to meet you Steph and I hope we all can be close friends as we are literally roomies now " I said finally while looking at everyone and in return everyone smiled which was proof that they all agree with me .

A sense of relief was felt by me as it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and even though each of my roommates have entirely different personalities, I have a strong belief that we might be okay living together ...as we all know opposites do attract more.

The day had finally arrived and the start of my college life began with a phone call from my mother. "Hey dear, are you getting ready for college ? Did all your roommates arrive? At what time will the orientation begins?" my mother kept asking questions and the sadness that I felt yesterday due to lack of communication from my parents vanished and I felt happy. Actually I considered this as a good sign on my college orientation day .

We as undergraduates were required to wear white on the first day of orientation and so I was wearing a white blouse along with a black skirt while Amanda and Emma were wearing white dresses. Steph was still asleep actually and Amanda and Emma was reluctant to wake her up. Finally I mustered the courage to wake her up and suddenly she started to groan in sleep. " Hope, she is groaning and don't you think that she will wake up angry?" Amanda asked while looking at the sleeping Steph with a little bit of fear. "But she can't miss orientation !!" I told her while gently tapping Steph's hand. "AHHH!!!" I screamed as Steph suddenly grabbed my hand for which Amanda started to scream as well ... "Guys, shut up!! The matron will come here" Emma whispered and meanwhile Steph finally woke up ,definitely due to us screaming. "Who died??" Steph casually asked while letting go of my hand. There was a minute of silence and finally when I composed myself, I told Steph to get ready as we are already running out of time for the orientation. Steph simply nodded her head while yawning and went to the bathroom.

All four of us were able to reach the college auditorium just in time before the orientation commence but we got to sit in the back rows as there were already many students who are sitting in the front rows. There were at least 1000 students in the auditorium and I felt really proud to be one of the people to get accepted to college just as the people who are sitting here.

There were many speeches and sessions related to the college rules and regulations, subjects and degrees, college clubs and traditions and also about the history of our college . Amanda and Emma were listening attentively throughout these speeches and well..Steph had plug her earphones in and might definitely listening to music.

"As you embark on this exciting journey through college, remember that the pursuit of knowledge goes hand in hand with the pursuit of happiness. College life is not just about acing exams and earning degrees; it's about discovering who you are, building lasting relationships, and finding joy in the process."the final speaker ended his speech with these words and these words made me realize that I must try to seek happiness with this new chapter in my life.  ..."Hope Peyton, you deserve to be happy " I closed my eyes and told myself while I could hear applause that depicts the end of our orientation. "Hey Hope, Let's stroll around the college as now the orientation is over, you in?" Amanda asked while getting up from her seat for which I replied "sure" while smiling at her.
