Chapter 5: What is to become the hero

It's been six weeks since Hector's passing and Lila and Elysia embarks seems in the aimless journey. Under Lila's guidance, she continues learning magic while helping Lila taking in some job for their travel expenses, Lila notice something to Elysia while traveling together for a while, she often had a nightmare maybe from her past trauma, and she has troubles talking to new people she often misunderstood things leading her sometimes engaging a fight with random people.

Of course Lila was scolding her about that since there are traveling together now and if she keeps doing what she did they're going to end up making enemies though she is not very strict to her entirely Lila understand her troubles on what she experienced and endure at the young age and lives in solitary after that only an old man you can talk to of course you will have trouble talking to other people.

Lila often spoiled her with things like buying her clothes and some ornaments that a child would like, though Elysia on the other doesn't really like Lila spending so much money on her since she wants to save it for travel expenses, though she isn't complaining when Lila would sometimes cuddle with her on sleeps making her sleep well at night.

They currently on the small city called Birder it's a city near ocean where all the fresh fish are coming from on the year of war having defeated the hero of the south the demon occupied the most of the land including this city where most of the supply of food are coming since most of the crops in the dry was destroyed the demon lord really thought about it, thinking that he cannot defeat the relentless fighting back by the human and having defeated one of the hero is not really a big win for them since there are other heroes fighting so by destroying the food supply would be a major drop of moral for them.

Because for the hero party, the demon occupying the Southland was defeated and reclaim it and the supply of food is back to normal though the victory is not without come with a price by the fall of the hero of the south, people are still that the demons might come back and reclaim the land, but Hero Ethan promise the people of this land that he will defeat the demon lord, and he will always come when people need him.

But that promise soon fulfilled, when one of the seven generals of demon lord named Halphas he leads his army to the Southern land and destroy land once again, there he encounters the hero party led by Ethan and then the battle arouse there, the hero party barely make it out alive they defeated Halphas army and sealing him in the north side of the city where till this day he still remains.

When Lila and Elysia first arrive in the city, most of the people didn't recognize Lila, nor they paid attention to them, they just continue to their daily lives like they have completely forgotten the people who save their city, Lila didn't pay much attention to it, since it would be much easier for them this way too much attention will make Elysia uncomfortable that Lila thought but in reality she's kinda pissed by the people when she spotted the destroyed statue of the hero party Ethan and been replaced by the statue of Halphas the very demon who once brought destruction to this land.

Elysia looked at Lila, though Lila is not the type of person who shows emotion she senses that Lila was angry, and she never saw her like this ever since they first met. Elysia looks around them and seems the people are wearing a mask, looks like a demon and the city was decorated by red and black decorations like Halphas color.

While occupied, the scene Elysia was startled when suddenly Lila grab her hand and walks out without saying a single word, it seems Lila wants to leave the city nearing in the gate an old voice called out Lila's name stopping their on tracks. They both look to the direction where the voice come from, and they saw an old lady in crane wearing a gray long dress with white apron on the top of it.

Lila just looked at the old lady, seemingly don't know what to do still holding Elysia hand, she pulls her once again without saying any word to the old lady and the old lady spoke once again.

"It was a dreadful sight, isn't it? Though the hero party once fought the demons out of this town and bringing peace to it, people of this city completely forgotten about it and even worship that very demon thinking it was some sort of god"

Hearing those word, Lila once again stops and look at the old lady and said. "I was thinking of deposing Halphas this time since the seal that I cast to him is about to be broken, it seems you are worshiping him now and there is nothing I can do to it, I cannot destroy people's belief that's one my master told me no matter how ridiculous it is that's the number rule of being the spirit contractor since you humans are given freedom of choice you do whatever you want"

Elysia could only listen to the conversation, not sure what to do and realizing the harsh reality of the world, no matter how big your achievements are peoples are bound to forget about it just like she witnessed today many lives were lost just defending this land, not only this land, Much life was lost trying to save this world and decades had passed people forget that sacrifices if the hero of the south were still alive to witness this he will surely in rage to its people.

Elysia could only grit her teeth in anger, her hatred to demons are increasing, she also developed hatred to humans who worship the demons she wants to punish them for disrespecting the people who save this land though she cannot risk herself and her master.

"Anyhow, it seems that we just waster our time going here we're going to the next town, I don't want to spend the night in the forest so we are going now I hope you enjoy your festival"

After that, Lila and Elysia leaves the city without looking back.

After Lila and Elysia left, a person enters a big door of the palace, the room is dark and only a candle lighting portion of the room in the center there is a big chair and a shadow figure sitting to it, the person that enters that room get on his knees.

"My lord, the preparation for the festival is finished"

"Thank you for the work, I will show the people of this city I'm going to defeat the demon, that the hero party failed to defeat in the past and after that the people will worship me, and I'm going to be the hero of this city"

In the deep forest, Elysia making a camp fire meanwhile Lila was sitting in the thick branch still silence since they left the city she wants to arrive to the neighboring town but got lost, sulking Elysia sit beside her and patted her back gently.

Lila looks at her and then smiles, "Sorry you have to witness all of that"

"You have nothing to apologize about, you and the hero party risks your own life to save the life in the needs, yet this is the treatment you get you have the every to get angry with them, and actually I am mad right now I cannot bare watching someone doing that to the people who save the world especially disrespecting you and Hector-sama and others."

"Getting angry will do no better, let's forget about it if they're worshiping that demon it's none of our business anymore"

"But you said that the seal is about to break, right?, even though the people in that city worshiping that demon it's not like that demon knows and what kind of demon is Halphas?"

Lila remembering the time when they fought Halphas when he brings his army to reclaim the southern land it was a hard battle that Hero Ethan was so powerless against him, even Lila was struggling to fight him.

"Halphas is the third sit of the seven general of the demon army and the greatest mage even live, he is the first mage to ever defeat a hero in one on one fight using he's own develop magic called "Gayle" it's a wind type piercing magic that can pierce to armor"

"I never heard of a demon wielding an air type magic, I thought demons can only use dark magic"

"Magic can be learned by anyone, but you need a pure determination for its humans are just a creature who easily give up when they knew something is impossible, they quit before even trying, even the demon lord can use Earth, water and light magic despite being the demon lord himself that human always believe that light magic can be only use by the divine and the chosen"

"I don't really understand"

"Yeah, I know, but it's just shown that you can achieve anything by just being patient about it, and Halphas is one of them he developed that magic from scratch and become the powerful magic, and he was so powerful that it backfires to him"

"What do you mean?"

"You know I'm the one who seal him, since I couldn't beat him at that time"

People gather around where Halphas is being sealed, everyone was watching him in envy and pure respect, they even put a little shrine below him to prove that they are loyal to him.

A man in red trench clothes with yellow button and white clothe inside and black jeans and white boots "People of Birder tonight is the night where our god seals will be release, and we must show our respect and loyalty to him"

The people cheers after hearing the man's word, and then he added, "But we must not let our guard down, thus our lord my not recognized that we're worshiping him, but worry not as I Dominic Trix the ruler of this land will protect the citizen of the city"

And the celebration was preceded and Dominic watching the people happily dancing and offering something to Halphas he smiled to himself thing that once the seal is broken he was sure that Halphas would go on massacaring this people and his role will be played as the hero who defeat the demon that people thought as a god and if he defeat the demon that the hero party failed to defeat in the past, the people will treat him as a hero.

He's plan is so perfect that he didn't see any failure in them and the night slowly turning into dawn as the seal began to make a crack sound as the people kneel and bow down, and Halphas seal was broken as he open his eyes revealing his bloodshot red eyes and sharp fangs and long sharp nails he was looking at the people on thier knees before him.

"Oh our lord Halphas you finally awake from your deep slumber, welcome back"

Dominc approach Halphas without fear as he greeted him with all respect, Halphas looking at him without showing in his face he look to the sky and surrounds him and in the dead silence he suddenly grab Dominic's kneck chocking him, people seeing the scene in front of them some of them panic but choosen to remain on thier kness thinking that Halphas was only testing thier loyalty.
