Heartfelt Chronicles: Echoes Of Affection
"Hearts Across Eras"— 8
Jungkook walked out of his Seoul apartment on a regular Thursday, walking down the street to grab his coffee.
It’s been 17 years since he first met his father and Hyung, and they’ve become a part of his everyday life. Even when he started working at SSKIELD Tower as a computer programmer a few years back. At first, he wasn’t necessarily a secret for Taeyong, though he did neglect to tell the media about his existence. It was less shame and more worry that he’d get kidnapped and threatened or even worse, what if his mother finds him out.
Jungkook was his precious younger son, he didn’t know what could happen if anyone else knew about him. Some of Taeyong’s most trusted staff members knew about Jungkook's existence, so did Colonel Y/L/N, back when he was still the director of SSKIELD.
Minyoung knew, of course, and Jungkook and her were very close. She took care of him and his hyung like they were her own sons, and though Jungkook didn’t call her eomma, he accepted her motherly love nonetheless. Minyoung’s taken care of him ever since he was young, coddling him when his dad scolded him, though that was a rare occurrence. Jungkook and his hyung were super close; joined at the hip. He sent Jungkook random memes throughout the day and always sent someone to check on him when he was in the tower.
Jeonghan would drive him to and from the tower and he would assist him with daily stuff, like driving him to the grocery store. Even though his Appa taught him how to drive after he turned 15, he never gave him a reason to, making sure he had everything at his disposal. Jungkook was always a good kid, never asking too much from Taeyong and always doing his best to make sure he was proud of him.
Even to this day, extravagant presents like necklaces and bracelets made Jungkook feel terrible. He didn’t like that his dad spent so much money on him; it made him feel like that money could have been better spent.
Taeyong
“Oh come on, Jungkook. You’re my son, you have to dress like you’re taking the world by storm.”
He would say. Jungkook would look back up at him after examining the present and respond,
Jungkook
“How is a Cartier bracelet taking the world by storm, Appa?”
He would joke, and Taeyong would laugh.
Taeyong would then help Jungkook clasp on the bracelet, or necklace, or whatever it was he bought for him. Everything Taeyong bought for Jungkook, he always wore and never took off. He liked the simple things.
The necklace that was always around his neck was not one of his dad's taste, but one that he saw in the window of a storefront when he was walking down the street with him. It was a small diamond stud, that was a fraction of his index fingernail, attached to a gold chain. It was so elegant and simple that Taeyong thought it suited Jungkook perfectly.
He didn’t buy Jungkook much jewelry after he was satisfied that he had enough to constantly wear, but he always took care of him and gave him a life he couldn’t have dreamed of if he tried.
As Jungkook walked out of the coffee shop and towards Jeonghan’s sedan that was parked on the side of the road, his phone vibrated.
He answered as he got closer to the car.
📱 “Jungkook, something’s not right! Don’t get in the car.”
Jeonghan said frantically, and Jungkook felt his breath hitch, taking a few steps back.
Jungkook
📱 What’re you talking abo—
Before he could say anything more, the world beneath him shook as the car exploded, and he was propelled backward. Everyone on the street ran away. His ears were ringing, and he landed on his back as his mind went blank, groaning.
He grumbled, but he didn’t hear any words come out of his mouth as he watched the black sedan go up in flames, bits and pieces of the car strewn about, his heart hammering in his chest.
He said again, still not hearing his own voice. Jeonghan suddenly rushed to his side, looking at him as he groaned.
Jeonghan assured as he tried to help Jungkook up, but his head lulled back as he stared at the sky. Jeonghan's words sounded distant and muffled, like he was underwater. Jungkook was in pain, and his back was stiff from the impact. Even though he could barely hear himself, he mumbled something under his breath.
Jungkook
Appa and hyung are gonna lose their sh!t.
Jeonghan quickly called for backup and brought Jungkook to SSKIELD Tower. His ears were still ringing, and his eyes had to adjust to every new thing they fell upon from the shock. Jungkook could feel his heart beating in his head and in his ears as his eyes slowly fluttered shut, his lungs pulling in deep shaky breaths. It was only then he realized that he couldn’t really surrender to the oblivion that being unconscious would give him.
He felt himself teetering on the edge of falling asleep, as though he were nearly there but couldn’t get all the way. He chalked it up to shock and pain, since his brain was blank, and yet his train of thought was running rampantly off the track, disappearing seconds later and starting over with a new one.
As he gazed at everything, the noises and voices sounding like he was hearing them through a door that was underwater, he felt like he was dreaming. None of this felt real. And if he thought the shock was settling in then, he was dead wrong.
When his brain finally started catching up, his hearing opening up as though whatever his ears were blocked by slowly fell away, starting from the center of his ears and quickly spreading, clearing his eardrums to hear the sharp sounds and the echoes of police car sirens passing the car. Jeonghan’s voice cut through perfectly, and he recoiled, raising his hands to block out how loud everything was.
Was the world always this loud? Jungkook thought as he took note of the sounds of tires on the ground, feeling them ripple through his body.
He finally started to realize where he was. He lay down in the backseat with an agent making sure he was okay, giving him a once-over and checking on him. Jeonghan was on the phone, and Jungkook knew who he was talking to. His hyung. Jeonghan seemed fearful as he felt his body weight shift and change with his steep turns.
His ears were ringing, and he grimaced, the agent trying to talk to him but not getting fully through. He was rushed to the infirmary, unable to form sentences while doctors and nurses rushed around, running tests and grabbing medical tools.
