The Flashback 2

CHAPTER FOUR

Mie Lan was running like a marathon racer. Suddenly she trips on a stone and falls face down. She looked down at her feet in horror, her right toe was bleeding. Tears sting in her eyes and she starts crying, covering her face with both hands from the terrible death running towards her. She awaits the inevitable. With a loud thud, the ground thumping by the boar’s feet stops followed by an audible groan. She opens her eyes to find a man in a white shirt standing in front of her. His back was towards her and he was glaring at something at his left. She tilted her head to look at the boar slammed into the giant tree trunk. The boar whimpered and ran away as if it had seen a ghost. Then he turned towards her. She recognized him and was sure she saw a glimpse of red in his eyes but it changed as quickly. He bent down on one knee and tore a strip from the corner of his damaged shirt. The smell of her blood was intoxicating him and he had to keep a check over himself while tying the piece of cloth on her toe. He looked up and their eyes met. She was still lightly sniffing. He wiped her tear-stained cheeks with his fingers.

“You should not roa-???” Before he could complete his sentence she hugged him leaving him stunned. “Thank you for saving me… I was really scared” She sniffed then beams looking up at him. Looking at her enchanting smile and the sudden change of atmosphere left Zane speechless. Coming back to his senses he breaks their eye contact and stands up. “You don’t have to thank me, it was compensation for saving me. Now we are even.” He states and starts walking away.

Mie Lan watches him walking away in shock Huh!! He’s gonna leave me here! Just like that! After I came all the way out here worrying about this stupid man. How arrogant! She kept mumbling in her mind, scolding him, unaware of the fact that he could hear everything she was thinking, aloud. He stops after a few steps. This girl for real, I wasn’t expecting her to follow me to the deep forest. That too after I sucked her blood. How is she even still functioning!? She is brave though… and stupid …but cute… he smiles listening to her innocently scold him in her mind. Huh! Why am I smiling?

“Hey you, little girl, if you don’t wanna get eaten by some wild animal and get safely back to your grandma, follow me” he states and keeps walking.

“First of all, my name is not Little Girl, I’m called Mie Lan, OKAY WAIT I’m coming” when he kept walking away she agreed and tried to stand but hissed due to pain in her feet. She was unable to walk properly either because of her injured toe. Zane quickly walked towards her and before she realized it, he picks her up in his arms.

“I… I can walk by m..myself” she shuttered blushing.

“With your speed we won’t be able to get out of the forest even till tomorrow, and it would be such a pity if a little girl like you gets eaten by some wild animal” he smirked. MieLan blushed in embarrassment and decided to stick to the current deal “Okay, okay let’s get out of here first before it gets dark” I was thinking the same about him earlier, did he read my mind or something?

“Yeah” Zane agreed, internally to both.

He told Mie Lan to close her eyes because he is going to run fast. She looked at him confusingly but closed her eyes anyway. Zane having predator senses found out directions pretty fast and ran with the speed of the wind.

In half an hour, when they finally make it out of the forest, it’s already dawn. The clear sky looked magnificent with the sun’s light creating a beautiful hues of orange and pink. The birds group flying back to their nests. The sound of ripples in river water. The gush of wind through the green grass of the open field. Mie Lan watched everything intently with a satisfying smile. When Zane put her down on the grass she breathed in the fresh air like it’s heaven and sighed in contentment. Zane watched her from his side then they both lied down on the cool grass enjoying the view.

“Isn’t it so beautiful and relaxing here? That’s why I love to come here every day” she gestured fondly. Cold wind gushed past and she shivered winter is approaching, the evening winds have got chilly she thought hugging herself. Zane looked over at her, took off his half-damaged shirt and draped it over her shoulders. Feeling less cold she looked at his side.

“H...heyy put your shirt back on” she blushed when her eyes meet his perfect abs beautifully displayed beside the setting sun with him leaning back. Did he come from heaven or what? “Won’t you get cold if you give your shirt to me?” she blushed turning her face away to avoid staring at his body. He chuckled. How absolutely pretty that sounds she caught her mind whispering.

“Keep it, I don’t feel cold”.

“Still you can’t sit here nak- um… I mean… like this..” She looked towards him and her graze fell on his healing wound on his abdomen. Before Zane could reply she shifted near him “Oh no! I forgot to put the herbs on your wound” she exclaimed worryingly examining his wound with a frown. It’s healing pretty fast though. “I’ve bought the herbs with me let me put it here…” she digs in her skirt pocket to get the herbs out “..then it’ll heal quickly”

Zane coughed awkwardly looking at her all worked up for that small cut. Sure the wound was painful at first but it hasn’t been much of an annoyance for a while. He smirked thinking about something .

“Hey little girl, weren’t you getting shy a while ago and now you’re all worked up over me, your mood changes pretty fast huh~” he chanted attempting to change the subject.

“I told you I’m not ‘Little Girl’ and I… I wasn’t getting shy… or anything” She shuttered back.

 Zane laughed sending tingles down her spine. “D..don’t laugh” she shuttered, turning red and attempting to hide her face. “Then tell me why is your face so red hm?” he teases, tilting his head to take a look at her blushing face. She playfully hit his arm and he got up chuckling, resonating in her every cell. She got up too and started chasing him playfully. He ran, laughing.

Meanwhile, a chopper appears in the sky. Loud sounds of its wings made both of them wary of its presence and stop their chase to look above. Its wing creates strong waves of wind as it lands on the grass field.
