Ritter Escalante, 22 years old, the son of an important Marquis, whose family had served the royal family for generations. Ritter had known Delia since he was 10 and she was 8. She was a very pretty and kind girl, although somewhat clumsy and easily brought to tears by other girls, so her mother, who was a good friend of Delia's mother, asked him to take good care of her, since they would marry when they grew up. Ritter didn't hesitate to do so, he even grew fond of her. Delia was practically like a little pet to take care of, until they were both older and he found out she was in love with the Crown Prince.
Ritter knew that the Prince had a fiancee, he even warned Delia, but she refused to break off her relationship with the Prince, even swearing that they would fight to be happy. However, she was always weak in the face of Alesha’s, the Prince’s fiancee’s, aggressions. Alesha was a woman prepared to survive the pressures of society, very different from Delia, who could only turn to him for help.
Ritter took care of her, because it was what he promised her mother, but when Alesha was finally prosecuted, he knew that all that was no longer necessary. Besides, their engagement was broken and therefore, he saw no need to stay close to Delia, which was a relief to him. Protecting her was a nuisance, pretending to care was also annoying, but now he was finally free and he used the excuse of leaving the capital on a mission, to cut off all contact with Delia. Now the girl was the Prince's problem and not his.
He even took advantage of Marquis Fischer's party to find a companion that night, as a celebration of his freedom and boy did he find the perfect companion. The night he spent with that woman was one of the best, she was passionate and they did it until they were exhausted, something he had not done before in his other affairs, because yes, although he was engaged, he did have some other adventure.
After all, no one told him he had to be faithful by force, and besides, Delia wasn't attractive to him in that way. She was pretty, but he didn't like her in that way. If he thought about it, even if he had married Delia, the girl probably wouldn't even let him consummate the marriage and neither would he have wanted to do it with her. After all, to him, Delia was just a pet to take care of.
Alesha, on the other hand, was an attractive woman who aroused passions in him. He had felt it for a long time and if it weren't for the fact that Alesha herself never wanted him around because he was friends with her rival, he wouldn't have hesitated to take her to bed. But now, nothing prevented him from doing so, although he was sure he already had. The scent of the girl from that night and Alesha's, he was sure it was the same, and he had to make sure it was.
"You've been very distracted these days. Could it be that Lord Escalante misses Lady Von Hansen?" Marius sneered.
"What does she have to do with my distraction?" Although Marius wasn't far from the truth.
"The day we left her mansion, you followed her without thinking."
"I just wanted to see that she didn't cause any trouble." Ritter replied.
"Of course, I won't argue with that. By the way, a messenger came yesterday, it's the wedding invitation, your father says you must attend." He showed him an envelope.
"I will not go, even if it bothers him, I have better things to do." Ritter preferred to fix his eyes on a couple of documents.
He needed to see that the business with the Marquis Fischer was in order. Besides, it would be absurd to attend, he didn't want to deal with everyone's gossip, who would remind him that Delia was his fiancee and left him for a better status. There were no women to suit his taste to take as a partner to that celebration. Rather, there was one, but he was not allowed to return to the capital and she seemed to hate him.
Ritter stood up and told Marius that he would be out for the rest of the afternoon, but that he would go alone. He mounted his horse and rode out of the residence where they were staying, and when he stopped the horse, it was near the mansion of Adilia County. He moved slowly until he heard a carriage approaching, so he stepped aside, but the carriage stopped. When the door opened, it was Alesha who emerged from it.
"It seems I am destined to be in your presence, Escalante."
"You should be grateful, you can't see an attractive man every day." He sneered.
"I see you have a big ego..." replied the girl.
"It's not the only big thing, Lady Von Hansen, although you already know that, don't you?" Ritter watched Alesha's reaction.
And yes, she made a small gesture of annoyance by pursing her lips, it seems that he was not far from the truth and Alesha, was the passionate woman with whom he spent the night.
"Making those kinds of indecent insinuations can have consequences for you, Escalante, I could report your harassment."
"I have not harassed you, we have only crossed paths by chance and you were the one who stopped." He shrugged his shoulders.
Alesha was already somewhat irritated by the albino's presence, but she tried to remain calm.
"Then I won't entertain you any longer. I hope a demon devours you."
With that said, Alesha closed the carriage door and continued on her way, while Ritter just turned around, but would return home triumphant, because it seemed that he had managed to win the argument. But now he was sure that Alesha was that lady he spent a night with, a night he was willing to repeat.
After getting out of the carriage, Alesha hurried to her room and asked not to be disturbed. When she entered, she walked to the window where she looked out at the street, although it seemed that Ritter had left. What she didn't expect was that he would realize that she was the one he spent the night with, after all she thought he wouldn't care.
Alesha went to sit on her bed, she had to calm down, the first thing was to wait, she doubted that the boy would go around divulging what happened between them, it would ruin his own image. Everyone would be talking about how they console themselves after losing their commitments.
Alesha smiled briefly, that last part wouldn't be so bad, she could show Delia that she was left with her precious friend and that thanks to the fact that she stayed with the prince, she was much happier. There was no better revenge than to rub her happiness in the face of her enemies.
"Escalante, you'll be much more useful than you think..." she spoke to herself.
