S1 Chapt 1.5 - Whats a Haunter?

[Jeremy's pov]

She was scared, really scared. she didn't want me to touch her,but I have no choice, if I am unable to prove that she is not infected she will be killed on the spot.

I am already trying to hide her from Virl as she would have no hesitation to blow her brains out right now.

On my left stood Coco, and Mexican,American with beautiful vitiligo markings.

"If she doesn't co-operate we have to give her to Virl." She said reminding me for the 6th time.

"I know" I said coldly, "Tyler please, you can bring your brother and we will give you anything you want. Just come with us please."

She was hesitant and I knew why, not so long ago she woke up in new surroundings. We needed to help her.

"Okay. I'll go with Raymond and Naru." She crossed her arms and waited for my response,

"Alright," I turned to Coco, "Can you go get Naru? He's in the kindergarten"

"Alright." She muttered somthing under her breathe though I could not hear her, and continued to walk away from us towards the door.

"Let's go then."

I lead them both to a room away from the crowd, it was filled with lab technologies and Bristol was already waiting for us there. "Hey, so they are the misters trio...duo? What happened to the small one?" He asked tilting his head to the right.

"He's in the kindergarten and Coco went to get him" I said walking up to him.

I turned to see Tyler-Ray infront of her brother in a protective stance."Tyler, can you come here please?"

"Why?" She asked

"Because I need to test you for the infection." I said pointing at the thermal camera beside me,

"This is a non contact thermometer (NCT), we use this to keep track of your heat. This is because the infection spread where it is increasingly hot. So if your temperature is between 40° and 54°C that means your infected and we have to kill you."

She looked at me unconvinced so I grabbed the device and used it on myself, with a small beeping noise I removed it from my neck and showed her the results. "36.7°C, I'm not infected. So can I use it on you now?"

She looked at her brother and then back at me.

"Raymond? Wanna go?" I ask,He nodded in excitement as I took his temperature, "Normal. Good job mate,"

"It's not that bad Tyler,give it a try" he said trying to encourage her.

"Fine."

She walked up towards us and I carefully placed the NCT on her neck, Virl burst through the door with Coco,holding Naru ever so carefully.

"Virl,this isn't a great time" he said walking up to her,"we are in the middle of a test, you can't just barge in!"

Virl push him aside and ran up to me as I just finished the results, she took a good look and brought her gun out from her holster.

"She's ******* infected!" She pulls Tyler towards her, choking her with her arm.

"Impossible! She survived the 5 hour mark! She's not infected!" I shouted desperately trying to defend her.

"He's right" said Bristol, "she would of turned into a Haunter if she was infected. But she didn't."

Virl pushed the gun on the side of Tyler's head nearly pulling the trigger. "If they go over the limit,they are infected! That's the rules! We can't go past them just because you have another stupid theory Jeremy! We have to kill her.."

"Let me go!,Puta!"

(Puta means ****/***** in spanish)

Shouted Tyler-Ray,kicking and pushing Virl. Though it was no use as she was stronger. "Jeremy!.."

"I'm thinking it through.." I said,

"What!? What do you mean thinking!?" Shouted Tyler-Ray,

"It's a complicated issue!"

"No its not, its not that complicated!"

Bristol then joined in,"What is there to think over!?"

"It's a big decision!!" I said

"It's not a big decision!" Bristol Shouted slapping the back of my head,

"I need time to think it THROUGH!" I just need time...I got it!

"IM ABOUT TO LOSE MY SHIT HERE AND YOU HAVE TO THINK IT THROUGH!?!"

"What if the virus has adapted!" I shouted. "What if she has somehow been able to merge with the virus or..destroy it completely?"

"But that's impossible, you can't destroy a virus like this. Merging with it might be possible but we don't know if that's the case! What if she turns into a Haunter before we find out!"

I stay silent. She's right it's risky to have an infected person in here but.."it's not impossible for her to merge with it, we just need to find a way to prove it."

"Haunters are immune to iron bullets." Said Virl.

"Yes and? What's your point?" I looked at her confused.

"Observe." Without warning Virl pulls the trigger of the pistol in her hand.

Silence filled the room.

No one moved ad the velvet liquid spread like fire and burned us once it made contact. I can't believe it all that for nothing. I couldn't save her and worst of all her brothers saw everything.

I could hear Bristol shout in the background of my sorrow and Virl was trying to defend her actions,

"We were going to kill her anyway! I saved us from his coocoo plan!"

"If we let her in Scotfree she would of infected the whole group!.."

I knelt down to the body of the little girl and brushed her hair out of the way to see the gunshot wound but...

"It's gone."

"What's gone?" Asked Coco

"The gunshot wound its gone,its was right there! We all saw it!" I cried.

Coco and Bristol ran towards her to check her body.

"NO ******* WAY. JEREMY...you...you were right." Coco stumble back in disbelief while Bristol kept trying to wake the girl up.

"Hey kid..wake up.." he said gently shaking her.

Tyler's eyes twitched as she hissed in pain "my head hurts SO much...." she complained.

Her brother, Raymond, ran towards her Frantically checking if she was okay.

"What the ****...she's not human..she an actual haunter!?" Shouted Virl.

"What's a haunter?" Said Raymond curiously.

"A haunter is a monster that stays in the shadows. They lurk around day and night to eat anything in there path. If your lucky you get killed if you meet one. But if you don't then you get bit and then you turn into one. We don't know what they look like we just know they tent to make a wailing sound when they are around you and they have glowing purple eyes."

Raymond was scared, he kept looking at his sisters bite marks and then at me. "Will she turn into one?" He asked, "I don't know. This is new."

"What do we do now." Said Bristol. "We can't just do nothing about this. We have no research, nothing."

"Then we make research,we can run a few tests on her behaviour!"

"I am not being your lab rat!" Said Tyler pulling herself up,"if you think I'm gonna agree to this you must be mad."

"Your right" said Coco. "That's why you won't have a choice."
