A Ride Home

Author: This is Ordelias and Russell's story. Either one of them can narrate interchangeably. You'll get what I mean later just keep reading and supporting me.

After an hour of teaching Mr. Anders assigned us homework and dismissed the class since the bell had rung for closing.

After the bell rung Russell turned to me

" So, might I ask for your name", he said with a smile

"Yea, sure,it's.....", I wanted to tell him my name but I was interrupted by Mr. Anders calling him.

"Umm.. I got to go, duty calls, but I'll talk to you later", he said then turned and walked towards Mr. Anders.

"He's cute",Kia said as she packed her books

I turned to Kia and gave her a questioning look🤨.

" What, I was only stating facts", she said with a shrug

" Okay", I said skeptically but went on packing my books. Okay he is cute but when you say it out loud it just feels weird.

" Anyway, how are we going home?, is Auntie coming?",I asked.

"Nope, she said being Independence means we have to find our own means home", She answered.

" So basically, we're walking", I asked

" Yep"

" what if we get lost, then what"

"Hmm... wait...Didn't she say she had a tracker installed on our phones" She answered

"She was serious about that?",I asked surprised

"Apparently so"

"huh", I said in realization

We finished packing up our stuff and headed out the door. We were in the nearly empty hallway when someone walked up to us.

"Hi", she said with bright eyes

"Hi, Winter, right", I said immediately recognizing her.

"Yea, that's me, the girl who bumped into you this morning" she said apologetically.

"Oh, it okay it was just an accident", I said.

"I know, but I still want to make it up to you, ..... I know, you're new here right?"

"Yes we are"

"So how about I give you a tour now", she said with hopefully eyes

"Well, maybe..."I wanted to say no but I just couldn't

"Sorry Winter, maybe some other time, we have to get home", Kia said when she realized I was caving in.

"Oh, that's okay", she said sadly

"Sorry",I said to her as we turned to leave

"Wait... what if I give you a ride home"she said suddenly.

Kia and looked at each other shocked at her sudden Change in mood.

"I mean, it's the least I could do"

Neither I nor Kia wanted to walk home so we agreed to her offer.

"Great, follow me", She said with a wide smile

We were following her when she abruptly stope,d causing me to crush into her. Then she turned to us with the weirdest and goofiest yet cutest expression I'd ever seen.

"Wait, what are your names?", she asked

Kia and I couldn't help giggling

"My name is Ordelias and this is Kia",I said

"Great, let's go", she said then suddenly turned around and kept walking.

" Umm... is she sane?", I whispered into Kia's ear

I wanted to believe she was but judging by her actions I wasn't so sure so I had to ask. Kia just shook my head and shrugged , indicating she had no idea.

We followed her outside to the school parking lot, where she led us to a black Ford.

" This is my brother's car, if you won't mind waiting just a little bit, he'll be here soon", she said with an expression that read sorry for the wait.

" It's okay we don't mind, right?", I said asking Kia

"Yea, I don't mind",she answered.

We stood by the car for ten minutes when we noticed someone walking towards us.

"Great, he's here", Winter said with relief.

The figure seemed familiar but it couldn't make it out till he got closer and I realized it was Russell, our assistant I.T teacher.

"Wait, Mr. Russell is your brother?" I asked surprised

"Yes, why ,do you know him?",she asked curious.

"Yea, he's our assistant I.T teacher" Kia added.

She looked at as for a while. "Oh yea, you're science students", she said it a way that would make you think she just discovered gravity or something.

"Hey girls", he said to us then turned to Winter and gave her a questioning look.

"Oh, hey bro how was your day", she asked him.

But when he didn't respond and went on looking at her she continued, "These are my new friends Kia and Ordelias and I was wandering if we could give them a ride home?".

" Sure, but where do you live", he asked looking at us.

"Umm..", I said unable to remember our address

" Pine Avenue", Kia said.

"Right, Pine Avenue",I repeated

Somehow, Russell looked at me and smiled

"That's on our route so hope in", he said.

" Thank you", Kia and I said as we entered the car.

I looked out the window again while he drove but this time I was admiring the beauty of Eden City which I hadn't noticed till now.

" So, what's your house number?", He asked when we reached Pine Avenue.

Pine Avenue was big, it consisted of Three different neighborhoods.

" House number?", I repeated as I looked at Kia

" Umm, we don't really know our house number", Kia said somewhat shyly.

"Huh, how?, Winter asked confused.

" we only moved in a week ago", I said.

"So, how are you going to find your way home?, Pine Avenue is big.", Winter asked.

"If you drop us off here we can find our way home", I said.

" You sure?", Russell asked

"Of course" I assured.

"okay then", He said still not entirely convinced, " if you're sure"

He parked and we got off

"Thanks for the ride",I said

"You're welcome", he answered, then drove off.

We started walking and untill then I never realized how big and confusing Pine Avenue was. We kept getting lost and by the time we found our way home an hour had passed.

Auntie was standing at the door waiting for us with a worried expression. We had to tell her all that happened.

"So now will you come pick us up from school",Kia asked when we finished narrating how we got lost.

"No. but, now you know to keep the house number in mind".

"You got that right", I said exhausted

That night I slept like a baby.
