His Regrets

Saitou's POV

When I was eighteen I was an idiot and I did something terrible to the girl I liked.

I didn't know how to react to my feelings towards her, so I acted like a jerk and got rid of her.

I threatened her by saying. "That if you return home I'll ruin your life."

I was never going to ruin her life, but it looks like I've ruined myself instead.

All the girls I've dated over the years haven't affected me the way Inoue did.

Every year I keep hoping she'll come back. When she doesn't, I get a little disappointed everytime. I tried to find her, but I got no luck.

All I want to do is apologise to her and try to get her to forgive me for being such a jerk.

A couple of years ago, I went to her family and I told them what happened.

Inoue's parents didn't like what they heard at first, but then they told me that kids can be cruel st times but then I deserve a second chance.

Her brothers were an entirely different story. They beat the shit out of me and I ended up in a hospital from the beating.

While I was in the hospital, Inoue's parents sent them to the hospital to see me and apologise for what they did.

After that day the brothers and I became so close.

I spend a lot of time at their place and listen to them while they tell stories of things that happened while they were growing up.

I wished that I got to know her brothers when they were at the school.

They were a couple years older than the both us and they wouldn't have had time to get to know people younger than them.

I pulled my car into the driveway of Inoue's family home.

Grabbing my keys from the ignition I headed to the house. I knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer it.

Her brother Kazuki opens the door and he looks at me.

"Hey, man. Are you here to play C.O.D?"

"Yeah, I am. I'm going to kick your *** time around." I nudge him with my shoulder.

"No, you're not." He tells me while opening the door wider to let me in.

We run to the tv and we're about to switch the channel to play the game when the news comes right in about a Tsunami that hit a town of Fukushima.

The town of Namie had been struck by a Tsunami after an earthquake occurred not too far from the town.

The landline starts to ring and Mrs. Tanaka answered the phone. She puts it on loudspeaker.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Mrs. Tanaka it's me Himari." The woman in the phone answered.

" Oh how are you sweetheart?"

"I'm good."

"So how's my daughter? Is she there?"

"That's the reason why I'm calling. Inoue's not here with me."

"What do you mean she's not there with you? She told me that she will be staying at your place."

"Uhh Inoue's didn't stay long here in Sapporo? She's..."

Where is she then?

"She called me two nights ago telling me how much she loves living in Sapporo and she told me about the kids she is currently teaching."

" Mrs. Tanaka she hasn't lived with me for the past six years."

"What?!" She yells. "Where has Inoue been staying at?"

I heard panic in her voice.

"She's currently in Fukushima Prefecture, specifically at Namie." She muttered nervously.

That's the town that just got hit by the Tsunami.

Kazuki looked at his Mom. "Mom, you better see this news."

He points at the tv. "They're talking about the town of Namie right now."

Mrs. Tanaka hurries to walk over to the tv and as she watches the news, she begins to scream.

"No, no, she can't be there..." She said as she cries about the news.

Mitsuo runs into the room and he sees his Mom crying.

"Mom." she didn't reply to him. He picks up the phone where Himari is still talking.

"What did you tell to my Mom?"

"That Inoue doesn't live with me anymore for these past six years. She's been staying at Namie in Fukushima."

"The one that's been all over the tv and radio?!" He shockingly asked.

"I'm afraid yes."

"Damn it! Why didn't you tell us earlier?"

"It was Inoue's decision not to tell all of you. I'm not going to tell on her when she clearly told me not to tell anybody about where she's heading and will be staying at."

"Can you still call her?!"

"I've been trying to do that and her phone keeps ringing out. But there has been no answer since..."

"Thanks for letting us know. If you get in touch with her can you call us?"

"Sure I will."

He hangs up the phone.

Mr. Tanaka walks into the living room and he sees his wife crying on the floor. He walks over to her and wraps his arms around her.

"What's wrong, sweetheart?"

"Our daughter is in Namie right now." She wails.

He looks at the TV and he swears as he watches the waves hit the town.

I'm so shock about all the information I heard. I froze in my spot as my brain tries to process everything that I heard.

If she doesn't make it out alive it's my fault and her family won't ever forgive me for it. Why did I have to be such an *** to the girl I love?

Looking at her family I said. "This is all my fault. She should have been here instead of being on that town. If only I didn't say those words to her." I told them as my guilt is eating me.

I might sound selfish thinking about myself when she's on that town dead for all I know.

But I feel really guilty for what I did nearly ten years ago.

Mrs. Tanaka walks over to me. She places her hand on my face.

"It's not your fault. Inoue has always done whatever she wants and she wanted to go over to Fukushima to be a teacher. Ever since she was a little girl she told me that she wanted to be a teacher. She followed her dream because of that. It just took her to a town where a freak thing happened. No one could be prepared for that. Not even my daughter. She's a survivor and I know that she will survive this."

I pulled away from her as I smiled a little. "I have to go." I pulled my keys out of my pocket and head out the door. I started my car and peeled out of the driveway.

As I'm driving my phone goes off and I see Mitsuo's name flash across the screen.

Ignored the call and continued to speed down the street, swerving in and out of traffic.

A few car beeped their horns at me.

I pulled my car into the driveway of my mansion. When I get to the house, I walked into my bedroom and looked for the year book that has a photo of Inoue in it.

I throw things out of the closet until I find the book shoved in the back amongst the stuffs I collected over the years.

Flipping the book open, I see Inoue smiling.

I hope you're alright, Inoue.
