After speaking innocently, Naina broke into a broad smile, revealing her orderly array of teeth, a smile that seemed infectious to anyone who saw it.
Mischievously, Naina once again dared to caress the lower part of the doctor's trousers, then urged the man to quickly exit their hiding spot.
"Yikes, I give myself the creeps," Naina mumbled after being left alone. The softness of Doctor Nickolas had somehow become addictive to her.
Meanwhile, outside, Nickolas could only maintain his impassive expression. He was no longer young, but how could he be engaging in such bizarre behavior? Suddenly, Nickolas was reminded of his grandparents' love story, Alamsyah Dude and Anna, who used to sneak around the hospital.
It seemed like karma had caught up with him.
"What are you doing here?" Herli asked, having spoken with Naina and about to return to his room, but ran into Nickolas instead.
Nickolas was also on his way to his room but ended up seeing Herli heading towards Wilda's mother's room; that's why he was here now.
"Nothing at all, come on," Nickolas invited with his flat expression, starting to walk with Herli following. Eventually, Nickolas started to become as good at pretense as Naina.
Naina, overhearing their conversation, chose to stay silent for now, deciding to leave after another 5 minutes passed.
"It seems that last night's woman wasn't Naina; they look very different," Herli commented during their walk.
"Are you still thinking about that woman? I've already forgotten her," Nick responded with his distinctive cool voice.
However, knowing each other for long, Herli was well familiar with his friend's demeanor, so he didn't concern himself with it.
"Actually, I'm curious about you. Aren't you interested in women?" Herli inquired, draping an arm over Nickolas's shoulder as he asked.
"Interested, but none have caught my eye yet," Nickolas replied.
"Try to open your heart, Nick. Zendaya is already happy with her husband."
"Stop mentioning that woman's name; it makes me sick."
Herli fell silent, as well as removing his arm from Nickolas's shoulder. He didn't know what had caused their broken engagement, but it seemed to have left its own trauma on Nickolas.
"Sorry, I shouldn't meddle too much," Herli said.
Nickolas just glanced at him, then returned his gaze to the corridor they were traveling. Inwardly, Nick really wanted to recover from this ailment.
He didn't want to stay stuck, didn't want his life to be wasted over a worthless woman.
Naina checked the time on her phone. When five minutes had passed, she began to creep out. Luckily, no one noticed her departure. So, she could act normally again.
Putting on her innocent face while greeting everyone she passed by.
Not wanting to be caught shopping with an elite credit card, Naina took out just enough cash. Enough to buy this and that to upgrade her appearance for her husband.
Traveling in a mask, Naina took her nightclub experience at Paradise as a lesson. Now, as Laura, she didn't want to be recognized by many.
"Sis, do you have lingerie like this one?" Naina asked, showing a picture on her phone to the clerk at the reputable clothing store.
"We do, but it's quite pricey."
"That's okay, Sis. I'll take it."
"Alright, I'll prepare it for you."
Naina didn't just buy one piece of lingerie, but an array of nightgowns. She picked out daily dresses that were both sexy and charming. She had no qualms about spending Doctor Nickolas's money, knowing this too was a treatment he needed.
She had to be serious.
After shopping, Naina arranged all her purchases in the apartment. Then went home, showered, and changed into her usual clothes. As evening approached, Naina finally returned to the hospital.
"I'm sorry, Mom. I'm late," Naina said, kissing the back of her mother's hand as an apology.
"Mom doesn't want to talk to me? Why won't you wake up?" Naina asked again.
"I'll count to three, okay? You have to wake up."
...
"One... Two... Three." But there was only silence.
Instead, her phone inside the bag began to vibrate. A message arrived from Doctor Nickolas.
"Be ready by 9, I'm coming home," Nickolas wrote.
"Okay, Doc," Naina replied. She was very busy, with a distant look towards her mother, Naina left again.
Fulfilling her first task, a first night without true union.
