Following the division of assets after claiming my inheritance, the first thing I did was employ my half-brother in the company. After a year, his performance was quite good, so I decided to promote him to manager, a position that filled him with immense joy, and he expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity. I kindly assured him that he deserved it due to his excellent work. His response was heartfelt; for the first time in his life, he felt truly appreciated and valued, which made me very happy, for I had no desire to be at odds with my brother. On the contrary, I wanted to build a close relationship, possibly even a friendship. Things were certainly moving in the right direction; following his promotion, we attended more meetings and dinners together, getting along quite well, honestly. Whenever either of us would overindulge at these dinners, we looked out for each other. Any onlooker would think we had been good friends for many years, and that made me feel delighted and very happy.
After a year of him working as manager, recognizing his potential, I asked him:
"Would you be interested in being a shareholder of our company?"
"No, I don't want to."
"Why? I thought you might like to own a part of this company."
"I'm not interested in being a shareholder here."
"If you think I'm offering you to be a shareholder for any reason other than your work potential, you're mistaken. I truly believe you are very capable, and I would like you, as an excellent collaborator, to be part of this firm. You are efficient, analytical, and effective with every project the company takes on."
"I know you're offering me this because you believe in me. However, I don't want to be directly involved with this company. I like being an employee, contributing to its growth, but I do not want a direct part in it."
"Well, I understand and won't force you, but I hope you will continue to work with me in this company."
"You can count on that, brother."
"Thank you."
After that conversation, our lives continued as normal—he remained working in our company, and I attended to my duties as president. Gradually, our business advanced and became known worldwide as one of the best; however, I was unaware that it would soon come to an end due to my brother.
Shortly after the announcement of our company's ranking hit the media, my personal hell began. My brother maintained a normal demeanor toward me, but unbeknownst to me, his mother was devising a malevolent plan to rid herself of me and take over both the company and the inheritance from my mother.
Six months following the press release, my father, his mother, and my brother invited me to a dinner. There, I saw her again. Although not as enraged as before, I still found her presence unbearable.
Out of respect for my father, I tolerated her and managed to get through dinner. As we were ready to head to our respective homes, my brother asked me to accompany him somewhere. Obligingly, I went with him, and as we approached a road, he suggested we wait for the light to change to cross. But as we waited, suddenly, I felt a shove. By the time I realized what was happening, I saw a large truck careening toward me. In mere seconds, I was struck by the vehicle, flung into the air, and landed in the middle of the street—blood pouring from my head, unable to move, and only able to see my brother's face filled with glee as he looked down at me lying there. I understood then; he was the one who had pushed me. Yet in that moment, I felt nothing - neither pain nor hatred. Minutes later, a woman's voice called out:
"Call for an ambulance or emergency services quickly."
People gathered around me to gaze at my injuries and ascertain if I was still alive. Shortly after, I heard the loud siren of an ambulance. The paramedics hurried to lift me from the street and into the vehicle, but within minutes, my eyes began to close, and I felt myself dying. I saw my body lying on the stretcher; my soul hovered above before returning, then slipping back into darkness. After an indeterminate time, I opened my eyes to an unfamiliar place—not a hospital, but a room that seemed rather luxurious. As I turned around, what I saw struck me with surprise...
