Xiao sei awoke to the morning sun streaming in through her 15th floor apartment window. She looked out onto the city below, the hustle and bustle of the day beginning to take hold. As she watched the sun creep higher in the sky, memories of her childhood began to flood in.
When she was 8 years old, she had lived in a small village called Hangul with her father. It was a much quieter place, with little to do and not much excitement. But, Xiao had been happy there, surrounded by nature and the people she loved.
However, one day her father had to leave suddenly and Xiao had been left alone in the village. It had been a long and difficult few months until a family from the city had offered to take her in.
Xiao's gaze returned to the city skyline and she smiled sadly. She would never forget her life in Hangul, but she was thankful for the wonderful life she had now. She was grateful for the opportunities the city had given her and she was determined to make the most of them.
After living with her stepmother for many years, she couldn't help but feel like she was living in hell. Despite the mistreatment and hurtful words, she stayed strong and never let her spirit be broken.
One day, everything changed. Her stepmother leave her disappeared in her life. She was ecstatic at this new-found independence and it felt like she was living in heaven.
The following day, she got up early, feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. She got dressed for work, carefully checking her reflection in the mirror one last time before she walked out the door.
The journey to the office was a happy one. The sun was shining, birds were singing, and she smiled to herself as she thought about all the possibilities of what life could bring. Knowing she was no longer under her stepmother's control gave her a new sense of power and she was determined to make the most of this fresh start.
She hopped on the bus, and sat as close to the window as she could, taking in the morning light. She started to drift off, thinking of all the mundane tasks she had to do. Suddenly, she noticed something strange. Someone seemed to be following her, no matter what seat she shifted to.
She grew increasingly suspicious, and her heart raced as she thought of what to do. She pulled out her phone, and quickly sent a text to her friend, telling her what was happening. The person seemed to be getting closer and closer. She started to panic, then, at the same moment, a group of people got on the bus and the figure seemed to disappear.
When she got to her stop, she got off the bus quickly and hurried to the office. Once she got inside, she was safe and sound. She let out a sigh of relief and realized that she had to be more mindful from now on. She had a strange feeling that this was only the beginning.
