While Monica has more or less in mind how to move forward with her fated partner and how to protect her territory and family from Richard and Lana, these two find themselves in the territory of the witches, doing as they please. Although outwardly they are acting like the best caretakers of the territory in the queen's absence, the truth is quite the opposite— their good leadership is just a mask to carry out their sinister plans, which they will begin to execute three days before Monica's return to ensure she receives a big surprise and gift from them.
"I'm tired of acting like the good girl, Richi; I want to spill blood and demonstrate who commands this territory and the entire world."
Lana expresses to Richard her discontent with having to show herself as a benevolent witch, leader, and friend to everyone when, in fact, she longs to dispose of anyone who stands as an obstacle to her dreams. More than anyone, she wishes to get rid of Monica, as she cannot bear the thought that Monica holds such great and majestic power that rightly should have been hers, for she indeed has the vision for it.
"My beautiful queen, I too desire to end what does not serve us, but it is not yet time, my love. If we act now, things will not unfold as we wish. We need the foolish Monica to reject the Supreme Alpha, leaving her weakened so that I can continue manipulating her. Then we can absorb all her power without any trouble."
Their conversation unfolds as they are intimate in Monica's office, finding it more exciting and pleasurable knowing they could be discovered at any moment.
"I guess I'll have to keep playing dead fly while the stupid Monica rejects her fated mate. But I do need us to make her suffer and hit her where it hurts most because she cannot possibly be better than me in any way."
Hearing Lana's wicked demand excites Richard further, making his thrusts faster and rougher, eliciting moans of pain and pleasure from Lana.
"Your perverse desires, my queen, are like the sweetest music to me, and as a good musician, I am willing to fulfill all your tastes and whims, my queen. Greatness awaits us."
A week has passed, and Monica is more than settled into the pack, already fulfilling some of her duties as the alpha's mate, thus earning the appreciation and respect of many of the pack members. However, not everything is rose-colored for Monica. Though her relationship with the Alpha continues to grow—as does her bond with her in-laws, siblings-in-law, and some pack members—she has faced opposition from those who do not agree that she should be Luna, desiring the position for themselves. Amelia has proven to be a particular thorn in her side, always seeking to make her look bad, and today is no exception. As Monica heads to her room to rest before dinner, she finds Amelia waiting for her.
"My day has been wonderful, Amelia, so please don't spoil it with your presence."
Amelia clenches her fists in anger, unable to understand how a nobody newcomer is claiming everything that should be hers. But in her mind, she is far from giving up until she gets what she deserves.
"Don't flatter yourself just for being the mate of the Supreme Alpha. Just as you arrived here and are trying to keep what isn't yours, you will also leave, and no one will remember your pathetic existence."
Monica wants to laugh at how naive Amelia is, but she won't stoop to her level and engage in silly, senseless arguments.
"Dear, I don't believe—I am. I don't need a man or a title to make a name for myself, and if I'm with Matt, it's not for the position he offers, but because he is my fated mate, and he needs me as much as I need him to survive and be happy. So go back the way you came and stop trying to take what isn't yours. If you couldn't get into my Alpha's bed and become his Luna when I wasn't here, you've no chance now that I am, because that man is mine, and neither you nor anyone else will take him from me."
Monica enters her room, giving Amelia no chance to reply. For individuals like her, no matter how you try to reason with them, you can't because they only hear what they want to and what suits them. Amelia leaves furious after seeing that slamming Monica's door and yelling at her doesn't cause Monica to face her, to tell her a piece of her mind for daring to offend her and make her feel lesser.
As for the Supreme Alpha, he overhears the exchange between his Luna and Amelia from start to finish, and it fills his chest with pride for himself and his wolf. Hearing how his Luna defended herself and claimed him as her own lets him know they are on the right path and that soon, that beautiful witch queen will be theirs entirely.
