"Please, forget what happened earlier. You must be thinking strange things. My father is always like this, he speaks without thinking" Jasper appeared nervous.
He has a thing for curvy women and can't admit it, huh? Now I understand why he likes to grab women's behinds. He's a big-league pervert.
"You shouldn't worry about that. Whatever your preferences might be, they shouldn't affect me. I won't utter a single word" I zipped my lips with an imaginary lock.
"You're making me out to be some kind of pervert."
"I never said that."
"It's not hard to see what you're thinking."
"Not that you're trying to hide it either" I blurted out again". I mean, I don't think that of you."
He looked at me seriously and I grew worried.
"Don't be upset, I don't think poorly of you. There's no need to make a big deal out of something so trivial" I chuckled anxiously.
He stepped closer abruptly confronting me; his nearness unsettled me. Up close, he was certainly handsome and bearable when not wearing that bulldog scowl and glare.
"It's a lovely day and the temperature is quite favorable, don't you think, Miss Nichole?"
"Oh, yes! I completely agree with you" I responded.
"I'm relieved to not be the only one who has noticed. Perhaps we should take an hour's break, so you have time to enjoy it for yourself."
"I'm perfectly fine, but thank you for your concern. I'm allergic to sunlight" I laughed nervously.
"What a shame!"
"Sorry, am I interrupting anything?" Sally said, and Jasper immediately resumed his formal stance.
"No, you're not interrupting anything" he cleared his throat.
"I needed to talk about the applicants. Several have already arrived" she reported.
"Good, speak with the models and have them come down from the runway. We're going to review those applicants by having them model one by one. I don't want to waste any more time."
"Alright. Excuse me" Sally departed.
Jasper walked away, and noticing I remained still, he turned and smiled.
"Aren't you coming with me?"his tone hinted at a double entendre.
That sounded weird and I almost said it out loud. Following his father's comments, I can't quite look at him the same way.
"Yes, I'll come" I replied, and he smiled.
This man is devilish, making me think peculiar thoughts.
I pulled out my notebook and pencil, waiting for his directions. The candidates lined up on the runway and Jasper assessed them.
"You all should be aware of our agenda here. Miss Sally must have briefed you, right?" they nodded in agreement". Good, she will call you by name and you'll step forward, responding to any questions asked, loud and clear."
"Yes, sir."
Jasper eyed a chair, and I went to fetch one for him.
"Do you prefer standing?" he asked, observing I only brought one for him.
"I'll get another."
I fetched another chair and sat beside him.
"I'll dictate to you, and you will write, is that understood?"
"Yes."
He was silent for a moment, watching and listening to the girls and then out of nowhere he spoke.
"Do you have any special talent?" he inquired.
"Eating, I’m an expert at that" I said without thinking, and Jasper chuckled.
"I meant for you to write it down, but since you answered, I'd like to know more. I was referring to talents such as singing, dancing, drawing, things like that."
"I can only sing and dance in the shower" I automatically responded again, not wanting to see his reaction.
I’m so used to this casual banter with my friend Claudia, those kinds of remarks just slip out. I mustn't forget he's my boss and I'm saying many things I shouldn't.
"Nothing like that, Mr. Jasper" I tried to correct my slip.
"And what kind of music do you sing and dance to in the shower?" he seemed genuinely interested in my answer.
"Why the sudden interest now?" my mouth was betraying me.
He looked at me intently but didn't appear upset.
"Do you really want to know?" he flashed a smile.
Better to keep silent.
