Episode 4

After leaving the restaurant, we proceeded to his next meeting which, fortunately, didn't last long. Following the meeting, we headed back to the agency.

"Next errand, I'll go alone; you can head home for today. Remember to wear comfortable shoes tomorrow, we'll have a lot to do."

"Sure, Mr. Jasper. Thank you for the opportunity at your agency, and for all your help today."

"You're welcome. See you tomorrow at 9. Don't forget to bring your resignation letter from your previous job. Have a good evening." He dipped his head and continued on his way.

I walked to my car and slipped off my heels. Damn, there is nothing like taking off heels and a bra after a long day, it's a multi-orgasmic pleasure. When I got home, I found my friend Claudia drinking.

"You're filthy. Here you are having a good time and you didn't even wait for me."

"You took forever. Were you held hostage at work until now?"

"Worse days are coming. I'll have to get used to this."

I swiped a beer from her and settled onto the sofa.

"How's the job? Do you like it?"

"Yeah, it's good. The only downside is those plastic models. They're worse than a kick in the ovaries."

"Did they give you trouble already?"

"Yes, seems my sheer charm was too much for them." I grabbed my belly and laughed.

"Tell me about Jasper Cooper, good boss?"

"He's more bitter than my grandmother; sarcastic, demanding, mocking. He takes his work too seriously. I can't deny he helped a lot today. He made those models who were pestering me run 50 laps in heels around the convention center. He's quite extreme, and sometimes quite frightening. I don't want to imagine such a punishment. It's like working alongside a demon. Sometimes, I think he can read minds, or maybe I'm just that transparent."

"Such an interesting man. Sounds like you're going to have fun at this new job. Is he handsome in person?"

"He's attractive, can't take that from him. Just a shame he's so serious."

I gulped down the beer and stretched out.

"There's some dinner made for you, Nico."

"I can't eat more, ate like a pig and feel fuller than usual."

"Speaking of full, I need to empty myself," she said, standing up and scurrying down the hall.

"Headed for the throne?"

"Yes!" she yelled from the bathroom.

"Hurry up, I need a shower. Light a match, I don't want to come out smelling like I just bathed in perfume."

After she finished, I went to shower. I lingered under the water for a while and then went to lie down.

"Did you talk to your ex?" Clau asked suddenly.

"Don't even mention him."

"He's been posting thinly veiled messages on Facebook, seems like he wants you back."

"Tell him to take this," I flipped the bird, "do 30 laps, and go to hell. You should delete him, Clau."

"You don't want him anymore?"

"What's useless goes to the trash."

"They're all the same. Richard is following the same steps as your ex, now they're thick as thieves."

"Dump him, problem solved. We're too much for them. Let him continue cheating, but on the woman who bore him, because with those fake crocodile tears, he's not fooling me."

Claudia laughed.

"I think I'll take your advice. Maybe I'll find a sugar daddy to make me forget and, incidentally, pull me out of this misery."

"You ungrateful bitch, what misery exactly? Where you lived with that guy, that was a real rat's nest, your mother-in-law looked like one."

"Look who's talking. Your mother-in-law was the biggest rat."

"No, she was more of a viper; heck, Lucifer came up short compared to her. Even called her for advice."

Claudia burst into laughter.

"You've got such bad luck with mothers-in-law. Only you could attract them."

"I'm an angel fallen from heaven, but for some reason, nobody wants me."

"That's what you keep telling yourself, honey. Get some sleep, you've got work tomorrow."

"Hopefully it won't be as tough. Sleep well," I switched off the light and settled into bed.

The next morning, I went straight to the office where I was working and handed in my resignation letter. I liked the place but the pay was weak, and I have too many expenses. At least I left on good terms with the doctor. Jasper was waiting in his car in front of the agency.

"Good morning, Mr. Jasper."

"Good morning. How was your morning?" He looked at my sneakers and smiled. "I see you came prepared."

"Of course, I have to be ready."

"Perhaps I should introduce a new uniform, maybe tracksuit style? Then you'd have the full set, just in case."

"You're in a good mood so early, Mr. Jasper?" I attempted to sound the least sarcastic. "Seems you're already thinking up today's punishments for me."

"Would it serve you right to start running this early?"

"Does rolling count?" I replied spontaneously, and he smiled.

"Then it wouldn't be a punishment," he handed me the keys to his car. "Drive, Miss Nichole."

I think this man might be bipolar.
