"Doctor Carcel, can we speak alone for a moment?"
Her facial expression changes, as if what she is going to say is of great importance.
Carcel stays silent and then replies.
"Oh, yes... of course."
He stands up and leaves the room with Bella's mother, while Bella smiles at him.
Doctor Carcel walks to the corridor with Bella's mother, with a calm and unperturbed expression.
"What was it that so urgent, Mrs. Cruise?" he then asks, with a faint smile.
Bella's mother seems to hesitate for a moment, before finally speaking.
"Doctor Carcel, if I may ask you... please... can you tell me why you love my daughter so much?" she caresses her chin, but her expression seems like she wants a sincere answer from him.
"Mrs. Cruise, I love your daughter from the deepest of my heart, because...I have never met someone so cheerful, sincere, kind, and loving as her."
"She's not my wife yet, but I can tell you that I never felt so at peace with someone. She is the person who makes my heart beat at full force and who fills me with energy and inspiration."
"Yes, I love your daughter. And... I want to be her future husband for the rest of my life." he said
"I've already accepted the fact that I will be fired, and that I'll have to work in a smaller hospital. But you know, as we say, where there is a will, there is a way."
"...you'll see, Mrs. Cruise, I'll find a way to have enough time to be at least close by your daughter."
"And I'll be working to provide for her the best care possible, as she's now the most important person in my life."
"Please... don't worry, ok, mama?" he said sincerely and seriously to Bella's mother, words coming from his heart.
Her mother sighs deeply, but a small smile appears on her face...
"I'm... happy for my daughter."
She then closes her eyes for a moment, as if looking for the right words to say.
"But... you are a doctor, of course that you have a busy daily calendar. I'm afraid that you won't be able to be there for her, like most of the time."
"What will you do about it?"
The smile on her face has faded, and the worry on her face is palpable...
"You can't be more right, ma'am..." he then smiles confidently.
"Please, let me assure you that this marriage is also my priority. Yes, I won't be her doctor anymore. But I will always try to be here as much as possible."
"I'll make sure to not waste a single moment, and that every visit I make to her is memorable."
"I know how she suffers every day. That's why I'm going to find time to at least be by her side, even if it's for a few minutes."
He gently puts his hand on the shoulder of Bella's mother, and looks deep into her eyes.
"I love your daughter so much that now I can't help but think of her as a part of me. Her illness is also now my illness. And... if I can't see her every day, then I want the visits with her that I can make be as perfect and memorable as possible."
"I'm going to do my best so that this wedding is a moment that she will remember for her whole life~" he smiles at her, a genuine smile, to reassure her.
"Doctor Carcel, you know... I understand now, and if my daughter is happy with you I don't have anything more to say." she looks at him with a tired smile, but clearly satisfied.
"And I also wish that you could always be happy. For my daughter, and for yourself. Thank you."
Doctor Carcel and Bella's mother return to Bella's room. Her mother caresses her.
"It's all fine now, dear."
Her mother is visibly more relaxed now, clearly happy with the talk she managed to get with Bella's future husband.
"I trust you. You'll make my child the happiest woman in the world."
"Thank you, Doctor Carcel." she added.
He smiles.
Bella is glad to see her mother happy again, as this wedding is important to her too.
