The Cantervill Ghost
The Ghost of the Canterville Chase: He is the spirit of Sir Simon de Canterville who had murdered his wife, Lady Eleanore de Canterville in 1575. His body disappears mysteriously and is changed into a ghost due to his guilt. The ghost haunts Canterville Chase for nearly three centuries.
Mr. Hiram B. Otis: He is a middle-aged American Minister who is a
determined, rational and practical man. He buys Canterville Chase from Lord Canterville even though he is warned by the Lord that he should not buy it as it is haunted by a ghost. Initially he does not believe in ghosts and spirits like most forward looking Americans do. But later when he personally comes across the ghost he becomes indifferent to him. Lord Canterville: He is the owner of the Canterville Chase before its sale
to the American Minister Mr. Hiram B. Otis. A core Englishman, he is a
respectable and honourable descendant of Sir Simon de Canterville. Miss Virginia E. Otis: She is a little girl of 15 years. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis, the American Minister. She is a strong woman with blue eyes. She is very kind and considerate to all people. She is the only member of her family who was afraid of the ghost.
Lady Eleanore de Canterville: She is the wife of Sir Simon de Canterville,
She was murdered by her husband in the year 1575.
Mrs. Otis: She is the wife of the American Minister Mr. Hiram B. Otis.
She is a very good looking middle-aged woman endowed with beautiful
eyes. She is not afraid of ghost and spirits.
Washington Otis: He is the elder son of Mr. Otis. He is a good looking fair haired young man. He is an excellent dancer. The ghost is really afraid of him.
The Twins: They are the twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Otis. They are delightful boys and they play tricks on the ghost to humiliate him. They make the ghost very desperate and depressed. They ridicule the ghost and even scare him by dressing up as ghosts.
Mrs. Umney: She is the new housekeeper of Mrs. Otis. She is appointed by Mrs. Otis at the request of her earlier employer, Lady Canterville.
Lord Cecil Bilton: He is the young Duke of Cheshire who proposes to Virginia Otis on the spot after her win in a pony race. He later weds Virginia to become her husband.
