New school

Laura was always called the bravest of kids of her age. She was only 11 but she would always go around discovering new things. She was loved by all for her outgoing nature. Although at times it would also get her in trouble, she never let go of her always curious self.

Laura's father's job required him to transfer to different place after a certain period of time.

Laura was again transferring school. Transferring to new school was no big deal for her. She instead found it interesting as she would make new friend quite quickly, and she could discover her new school as a part of her adventure.

On the day of her admission in new school the principle strictly warned her not to roam around too much and not to go to places that she was not asked.

Those warnings and scolding only sounded like a formal gesture of hello for her. She believed that this is a tradition that all teachers and adults followed and never gave it much thought.

Her new school (Dove School) was huge with many students and 3 buildings. There were playgrounds and rooms for music dance and other activities but all of that was only around the first two buildings. The 3rd building was abandoned with rumors surrounding it.

She was assigned a class in the first building.

There were many students but why did the students seem so dull and the teachers…there was something wrong with them.

Her class was on 3rd floor, class no. 33. Her role number was 30. Was all of this just a coincidence?

The students on other floors seemed pretty fine to her, but there was something strange about the 3rd floor. Especially class no.33.

Students on other floors were joyful, completely opposite of the students in her class. Even the Students on the same floor but of different class seemed fine as they only appeared tired, unlike class 33 which appeared half dead.

It took Laura only a few days to figure out that there was something fishy about the school.

She asked the Principal to change her class but was refused and even scolded for being a busybody.

The kids in her class never spoke. She never once heard them say a word no matter how much she would try to talk to them.

The worst part was that even the teacher never talked. Every class had a different teacher for each subject, but her class had only one teacher for every subject.

Her class teacher would write on the board in order to explain topics to students but she won't talk. She never asked questions like other teachers either.

She never gave homework, but the students knew what to do. They would even submit their notebooks for checking after every class.

During attendance, the teacher didn't call out names she just marked the attendance by looking at faces of kids.

Unlike every class their attendance register had written SACRIFICE instead of ATTENDANCE REGISTER. Laura thought SACRIFICE meant that she had to give up something in order to gain something in life like her elders said.
