Chapter 3: A New Adventure Unfolds!

When the light dawned upon us from the leafy canopies, that is when I know it is time to start the day.

I gathered all of my belongings, making sure that nothing was left on the scene, and rode my Wolven Hornet familiar, Razor, all the way towards the sighted town. It took us somewhere between half to one hour to reach the place, and because we departed early, we arrived just before the sun reaches its highest point.

A few meters away against the town, I got off the beast and proceeded onto walking to the destination.

Although prior from doing so, I made sure that Razor made no sense of threat to anyone inside, using the extra skill from “Taming”, “Size Alteration”, and have him shrink his body, small enough to cling to my shoulder, as a hornet’s typical size would be.

Several paces after that, I managed to arrive at the town’s gate. There were several guards on duty, thus I was put on halt, questioned, and examined.

At first, their speech seemed somehow incoherent, but the more I listened, the more they became clear enough for me to understand. And luckily, it did that by the time the questions started, so I was able to answer them without any difficulties.

“Congratulations, you have gained the Title: Translator.”

Ah, so that’s why the words became more fluent to my ears…

After a while, I was identified ‘passable’ enough to be allowed an entrance to the town in front of me.

“Welcome to the city of Eruth,” said one guard with a greeting.

“We don’t offer much, but we hope that you enjoy your stay here.” Another one continued with a straight posture, right arm raised diagonally across their forehead, as their gesture was followed by the other one.

I thanked the guards with a bow, and continued my way into town.

So, it seems like this town’s name was Eruth… noted, for now.

Within a step and another, I am finally able to gaze upon somewhere inhabitable by races that I could recognize. I strolled around a bit, whilst observing the surroundings, buildings and people alike. Humans, humans, humans, elves, humans, beast-kin, elves, humans, beast-kin…

        Huh…?

It seemed that this world is more than just mutant creatures roaming around; the fact that fantasy races were present in this world meant that the reality had gone way too far from what my expectations would be. Although there were more humans than any other races, it still baffles me that I would be walking on the same ground with the ones who existed in what I call the fictional world. Well, not anymore, since they are living right here and now.

With awe occupying my face, I resumed the stroll while taking sight of any other available races. It was then I recognized that every single person I see, had magnificent-looking clothes.

I looked down to the ones I’m wearing, somehow tattered and old. Compared to the attires they owned, there was much in a distance and quality, for sure.

Even the glass on a window spoke the agreeing matter, as my reflection was held by the object.

Damn, I really need new clothes, huh? With a new desire igniting inside, I made a quest for myself, that is, to get better clothes as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, another matter comes into concern; I’m pretty sure that in order to buy something, a payment will be required, hence I need to earn some since I don’t have any on my hands, for now. Unfortunately, I did not know anything yet about this town, except for its name. Thus, it became a reason to ask around, hoping that I can get valuable information from someone.

So, to get one quest done, another must come in first, and I darted in an instant, questioning the people who lived in this town.

As I wandered here and there, trying to inquire information about the currency of this town, along with how to

acquire them, I stopped some people who conveyed the impression of friendliness on my way.

“Excuse me, I happen to be new in this town,” were the words I usually started with upon meeting someone.

“Can I ask you about what do you use on paying things around here?” is for the question about currency.

And,

“How do I get them?” is for the question about acquiring the money.

I repeated the process on a few people, trying on different races for an optimal information, surveying their answers one by one.

After I felt like I had enough people to be asked, I thought that the information gathered was sufficient to answer my questions. By the end of all that, their most and common answers was:

“We pay using coins here. They come in copper, silver, and gold coins, although gold ones are really rare, though.”

“Some of us also accepts materials for barters, so if you’re out of coins, just ask them if they are willing to trade for materials!”

And,

“You’ll have to work to get one, kiddo.”

“Most of us here work as adventurers, but there are more to that one job, like merchants, farmers, shop owners, and many more.”

Adventurers, huh? The fantasy theme began to load within me.

There’s even a rumor about a crystal ring coin going around in some people, but all them said that only the high ranked ones have them, who resides in another place far away from this town. Oh well, another time, that one is, ignoring the rumor, since the importance of my matter is not on that one for the moment.

Anyhow, after putting all the information in my head, my current conclusion came into only one: be an adventurer and gain coins to afford a new set of clothes.

Alright, let’s do this! I pumped my fist in the air, then proceeded to make my way to…

Wait. The realization of me barely knowing anything about this town was almost forgotten due to my excitement. Where do I go to if I want to be an adventurer?

I paused in place, hand slapping my forehead. Gah, it seems like I had to ask some more people, because I literally had no idea on how to carry on the action.

And so, I tried to find one more person to question them on where can I begin working as an adventurer. It was not long before a figure of a young lady with a slight dark beige and wavy hair in a sage green dress decorated with white laces was picked by my eyes, and I decided to approach her.

“Um, excuse me,” I said with a gentle tone discernable enough for her to hear.

The girl overheard my voice, and twirled her face to my direction.

  “Yes, how can I help?”

“I’m new to this town, so I was wondering of how can I be an adventurer?”

“Oh, that’s really easy,” she replied with a small giggle.

“You’ll have to register in the Adventurer’s Guild, and it’s right by the left alley from the town gate.” her index finger pointed back towards where I initially came in.

“Is that so? Alright, thank you for your help!” I bowed down in appreciation and waved her goodbye.

“With pleasure.” she waved back while I dashed back to the town gate.

Legs on motion, they took me to where I first entered the town. Left alley, left alley… I whispered to myself once I was in the town’s front.

Previously, I had taken the right road when I strolled around. That said, the opposite direction should be taken

instead this time, maneuvering my body to the left part of the town. It wasn’t long before the alley’s appearance laid by my view, along with the place I was searching for: the Adventurer’s Guild.

My eyes glittered as a wide grin was let out. Finally, I paced in haste and immediately stopped by the front of the wood-hued building, which by the left side possessed an open counter, assumingly to receive and communicate with adventurers, and by the right, a door that leads you to the inside of the guild.

A lady with long, burgundy hair greeted me from the counter.

“Hello, what can I help you with?” she asked with politeness pouring out from her words.

“I want to register as an adventurer.” the statement emerged within the burning desire inside.

“Very well,” she pulled out a paper and a pen from her side, and pushed it forwards.

“Please write your name and desired adventurer’s name here, and your sign on the bottom right.”

Instructions given, I received the paper, the pen held by my right hand.

“Rex” it scribbled down on the name section.

As for an adventurer name… must I fill that up too, though I can’t think of any?

Fortunately, when I read the paper once more, there was a small word by the lower part of the line where I was

supposed to write; it said:

  “Not necessary”

I took a sigh of relieve as the issue was released from my chest.

After that, I signed on the bottom right, where it was supposed to do, and gave the finished paper back to the lady by the counter.

She inspected the form before putting it back down.

“Do you have any other information that you would like to write down in the registration?” her question caught me off guard as if she saw something through me.

“Actually, I do.” with a few drips of sweat, I had almost forgotten about Razor, the Wolven Hornet who had become my familiar.

My palm crossed diagonally to the shoulder opposite to it, and from there, the shrunken Razor crawled out and laid on spot.

When my gaze returned to the lady, her eyes were broad with mouth slightly open, body froze in place in a way that she saw something not meant to be seen.

“Are you okay?” my mouth uttered words to her respond, not understanding what have I done wrong.

“… Yes… I’m alright,” she regained back on reality.

“It’s just… that creature is known hard to tame, you know?” she continued, pointing to the beast on my palm.

“I’m impressed that you are able to get one for yourself.”

Now I’m the one who’s in shock. I mean, a combination of two deadly creatures can sure be a real bother to anyone out there, but looking back, I’m quite amazed that I managed to tame one, even getting it to be my familiar. With the help of those boar meat, I guess; without it, I might not be here in the first place.

“But then again,” the lady on service added.

“The fact that you managed to find that creature meant that you have been to that place, correct?”

“I’m sorry, which one was it?” if she was speaking about that accursed viridian maze, then I would understand, but I had to ask back just to be sure that I’m getting things on the right track.

“The Forest of Rebirth, usually known as the Emerald Grounds of Transition, or the Beasts’ Hunting Grounds.”

Ah, so she was talking about that forest. But what are those names about it?

“Y-yeah, I’ve been there,” I replied with certainty from the experiences endured back then, but also with a feeling of slight tense.

“Though, may I ask why was it called that way?” I’m pretty new to this town, so might as well dig some info out; perhaps I may find something about my situation as well.

“Well, you see, that place was where the war took place.”

Before I could ask anything, the lady already begun her words,

“There was a huge tragedy that changed this world, Arreth, from the way it used to be.”

  “A… tragedy?”

“Let’s begin from the history of this world, then.”

I readied myself and focused on her whole story.

“A long, long time ago, the world we’re here, the world of Arreth, was once a peaceful place where everything was good,” her words portrayed a sense of nostalgia.

“The people were blissful, and the nature thrived with them as if a paradise was given to us which such blessing…”

“It was until seven hundred years ago, a disaster struck this world, bringing chaos into the land,” the tone used falls

somber as she began telling this part.

“Magic started to make its appearance to this world where before there was none, and caused disruption everywhere; the nature, the creatures, the people… everything was toppled over because of the instability created by its existence.”

“The creatures began to mutate and becoming more hostile than ever, ravaging whatever is on their sight, the nature followed as they shifted into something we never known; even some people were caught amidst the pandemonium, and joined the side of destruction.” she continued, her words conveying a picture of dread as my ears caught them.

“Thus, the only way to survive the disaster brought to us, the ruler of that time declared war on the outcome of the

appearance.” her tone changed again, now with a hint of determination.

  “And with that, the whole world became the war grounds of survival, as the world plunged into an apocalyptic state;

the skies were all bloody and grey, smokes scattering from every side, the nature showed no signs of life…”

“We call it, the ‘Emergence War’.” she stated, grim, resolve, and anguish mixing together to her voice.

Hold it right there. Apocalyptic state…? The memories when I first fell into this world rushed in a flashback; everything that she mentioned matches according to what I’ve seen so far.

That was… seven hundred years ago...? And I happened to be caught in a war when I got here…?

My eyes widened for a moment, sweat dripping from my temple, whereas my body stiffened from the amount of information I just received. Yet, the lady hasn’t stopped telling the story, so I tried to suppress my shock and continued on listening.

“Within centuries and generations our people fought for their freedom, and after four hundred years of bloodshed, scars, and sacrifices,” from all that sorrow and dark ambience, a sense of relieved emerged.

“We finally won.” she resumed, as a moment of pause was taken.

“Yet, the world of Arreth was in a really bad shape by then, and so we all had to work together in order to restore the world to what it previously was.” her tone now expressed concern, sighing as if she was one in the story’s part.

“Nevertheless, some things cannot be changed, as we tried everything we could, but none could erase the magic from this land,”

“So, with nothing else our people can do, they decided to accept the existence of the magic, and embraced it as something one with this world; it was a slow progress, but we eventually managed somehow.” like a worry being alleviated, her words returned soft and relieved.

“And after that, the world of Arreth began to recover little by little, creating new lifeforms, creatures calming down, and the environment grew new life, as we proceed to rebuild the land into a new place where everyone can live together again in harmony,” she continued explaining.

“And here we are, right now, standing on this newfound world.” the counter lady ended her story.

By the end of her narrative, my mind is still processing the entire things that was recently picked up.

So, the fantasy-like races, as well as the mutant creatures here were caused by the flow of magic? Was a conclusion that I made by my own.

But what bewildered me the most was that the fact I really had blacked out for more time than what it had felt to

be. I mean, seven hundred years of a slumber? Damn, that interfaced system didn’t lie, for sure, and now I know why I was given “Immortal” in it.

Well, it looks like my question was answered at last.

A few moments later, the lady by the guild’s counter extended her arms, and with her two hands, she presented me the finished card which had my registered information from the Adventurer’s Guild. Right… I had almost forgot the reason I was here…

“We have registered you in the guild by the name of ‘Rex’,” the lady spoke as she handed me the card.

“I will now explain the ranks that were used by the guild.” she asserted her speech like a professional doing their job.

“The ranks achievable in this guild are: Novice, Amateur, Intermediate, Elite, and Master,” she explained to me as clear as it could be.

“Although since you recently joined the guild, you are now given the status of: Entry.”

“Entry?” I tilted my head, noticing that this one was different than the others.

“Entries, unlike the other ranks, is not a type of rank; instead, it’s more like a status, as the guild’s objective is to aid on the world’s recovery, and not about strength,” another explanation came out from her.

“And by that reason, adventurers are encouraged to do more missions rather than to build in power, for the moment.”

“Therefore, to advance to the ranks and higher, a certain number of missions should be fulfilled.” she stated, as if I had to know the numbers listed.

“And how many missions is that…?” my concern started to bug me, since if they’re using that type of ranking system, who knows how much a person should do before they can climb up-

“To enter the Adventurer’s Guild’s ranks, an Entry should finish ten missions,”

Okay, that’s not bad…

“For Novice, or rank F to E, to go up, you will need twenty-five missions,”

Seems like the numbers are increasing this time…

“For Amateur, or rank E to D, fifty missions,”

Fifty?! Damn that’s lot…

“For Intermediate, or rank D to C, a hundred missions,”

………

“For Elite, or rank C to B, five hundred missions,”

Huh…? How did that escalate so much than the previous rank…?

“And for Master, or rank A to S, a thousand or more missions.”

HUH? My body jolted, jaw immediately fell down, spooked to the number of missions one must do in order to get to the highest rank. I can’t imagine how long will it take for a person to achieve that, and heck, how long will I take to get there!?

But then again, it’s not like I have to reach the highest rank to earn money, although yes, with a hard work comes good gains. So, it’s better to brush this off and focus on my goal in the time.

“That’s all for the rank explanations,” the lady returned to her usual stance.

“Do you have any questions in regards of the ranks or anything about the guild?”

“Actually, I do have one,” I replied to her, putting the card in my trousers’ pocket.

“What happens if I don’t do missions while I’m still in the Entry status?” just asking out curiosity.

“Nothing much, really,” an immediate respond came from her mouth.

“Though, you will not be recognized as an adventurer if you don’t have any rank.”

“Well, at least, for now.” the last of her words implied that things might change later on.

Albeit that’s not what I’m planning for, as my purpose of entering the Adventurer’s Guild was not for something aimless.

“Do you have any more questions?” she asked once more.

  “None for the moment.”

“Very well then, you are now a part of the Adventurer’s Guild, and I hope you will help to contribute for the world and society,” a gentle reminder was spoken.

“Good luck and please be careful on your missions.”

The lady of the counter bowed as my body followed, then she returned to the depths of the building.

Great, now that I’m an adventurer, or least, almost one, it’s time to earn some cash.

“Congratulations, you have been registered as an adventurer in this world,” a familiar voice popped up in all of the sudden.

“Because of that, you have now unlocked new pages for the interface:

Inventory, Data, Status and Infinity page are now added to your screen.”

New pages…? I thought that those three were the only sections in the system, yet it proved me wrong, as more are available now. I wonder if registering in an Adventurer’s Guild had done something to do with it though, since the notification was triggered after I had completed my registration.

My face lit up with such enthusiasm,

“Check!” the opening code was uttered straight away.

The system instantly displayed the interfaced screen to my eyes. And they aren’t kidding, there were more pages than when I first encountered it, with the ones the system had told being the new ones on screen.

Amused, I began to check the newly added sections. “Status” was definitely my first choice, knowing that it will

contain my information inside.

As my hand hovered and pressed on the button, I discovered that the stats weren’t in your regular, video game-like display; instead of using numbers, the ones stated on the screen were… words. My HP, or Health Points was described to be ‘high’, energy at ‘lots’, attack at ‘strong’, magic at ‘none’, defense at ‘average’, speed at ‘quick’, dexterity at ‘swift’, and stamina at ‘much’…

There was also a level system much to my surprise, although why does mine… had three question marks rather than the usual numbers, or words identical to how the other stats were presented?

I scratched my head, perplexed of their method on showing stats, due to the reason of the words being vague. What a weird way to tell of someone’s status… If it were numbers, I might have a good understanding of how much my power is, but in this case… it’s like trying to guess how good are you in terms of stats. I mean, how am I supposed to know how high is ‘high’ and how strong is ‘strong’? Man, this surely is somehow unreliable… Although most of my stats seemed acceptable enough to ensure my survival, so might as well leave them be for now.

The next page I’m going to check was “Data”. I lifted up my finger as it once more hovered to the corresponding button.

When it opened, the screen displayed records of the things I’ve encountered so far, mostly by appraisal, and even their information was stored inside. Razor, my Wolven Hornet familiar, was listed in this page too.

So, it seems like this keeps records of anything I had encountered, though “Appraisal” might be necessary in order to enter the information to the list. This sure will come in handy from time to time.

After the second page was checked, it’s time for the third one, that is, “Inventory”.

However, upon closer look, the button of this page was dimmed and crossed out with a chain-like icon. Huh, what’s this?

I took an attempt on pushing the button despite the clearly shown warning,

“Sorry, you cannot access this page yet,” the system declared with its monotoned voice.

“To access this page, a bigger bag is required.”

A bigger bag? Their words prompted me on picking the pouches made by boar hide. I guess these were too

small to put anything or many things inside, huh? And thus, my quest was added; at first it was about getting a new set of clothes, now there’s an addition of getting a new bag, large enough to fit multiple objects in it.

Let’s just hope I can earn enough for the both of them, as this one also seemed useful, according to what I had

seen from those games on Earth…

And for last, the “Infinity” page. For some reason, the name brought some sense of familiarity within, the feeling of hearing this word somewhere took place, though I can’t figure out when was the first time I heard that word; the fog was overly dense, yet small fragments of my memories struggled to piece together the parts to remind me what I’m missing.

Infinity, infinity… With arms crossed, I closed my eyes in an attempt to recall the moment I initially discovered that word, digging deep towards the buried memory.

Eventually, a scene was managed to be recollected, the almost lost became rediscovered,

“Congratulations, you have now obtained Passive Ability: ‘Infinity’.”

Was what a voice, assuming the system’s, stated to me when I first fell to this world and nearly died, before everything else went black after that.

I remember now! The flashback illuminated my eyes, succeeding on retrieving an information.

That’s right, I heard a voice containing the word “Infinity” when I collapsed by a large tree, when the world is still bathed in gray and a hint of red. If I had to put this up by my story until now, I’d say it was definitely distant from this day, knowing that I happened to ‘visit’ this world during a war seven hundred years ago.

Now that I recognized the word, a desire to check the page grew wild. Still, what was this ability all about though, and why did it come so suddenly back then? Without hesitation, my index finger swiftly pressed the “Infinity” page… and oh boy, I wasn’t prepared for what occurred next-

Upon the time the interfaced screen finished loading the page, I was left wide-eyed, mouth slightly open, and a

body frozen in place as I could not get my finger to touch the screen, all for the reason that there’s just too much things listed in here… it was one heck of a gathering of words.

Until I realized that each and every one of the words listed there made up a name for a skill, ability, and title, is when I broke out from my motionless body, back being intrigued with the page in front of me.

Let’s see… My fingers now free on scrolling the seemingly never-ending page. Damn, there’s more than I had

expected, every scroll continued with more and more words that I don’t recognize. I began to read some of them, as doing all will probably require a few days’ worth of time with these much in it.

……… I became more wide-eyed by each written words here, as I understood that this page wasn’t an ordinary page; it was a page, a section, that shows me how to unlock a specific skill, ability, and or title. And even the prerequisites for these doesn’t seem so hard to accomplish them, giving me an impression that have I been given some sort of cheat code for my life?

I got to try and unlock some of these out, a glitter of eagerness fluttered around me, having to know that some of these can be extremely useful, life-saving even, if I am able to obtain them.

Nevertheless, without any actions, these won’t come fulfilled. And with my other, current main quest on board, I

decided to do both at once, hoping that in the missions I accept, I can acquire new things in the same time.

Still, I take back my words about this not being like a video game, because this certainly feels like one… only that not all things are the same as my expectations, I guess.

I made my way to the right side of the Adventurer’s Guild, where a door directing to the inner side was located. With my right hand, the handle was gripped and twisted, and I pushed the door open, revealing the busy lives of many other adventurers inside.

Stepping in the guild, I took a while to scan and examine the interior; most of the place was built with sturdy wood, thus creating an ochre ambience. There are multiple lights hanging around the ceiling as well as the walls, each of them separated within a distance with one and another, and all of them had an elongated shape. The farthest back of the building locates another counter similar to the one outside, albeit this one is clearly longer than the other.

By the middle left of the area, a bulletin board was hung to the wall. If this world followed a game-like custom,

then that should be where I can get missions.

My legs brought me up towards the board where several people are staring at. Upon my arrival, I became one with the people there, imitating their stares on the many sheets of paper stuck to the board. On each of them was written the missions that one could accept; some of them were regular missions, some were requests from the inhabitants, some were urgent need of helps, and some were hard missions, according to what my eyes told me.

The fact that I just entered the guild created a conclusion about not going for any difficult-looking missions in the meantime. Fortunately, the guild was considerate to put the rank requirements on each sheet. Good, that’ll make the searching easier for me. Though, the number of missions a low-ranker can pick were actually plentiful than I had

thought it was not.

After minutes of reading and searching for a compatible mission, one was picked at last. But how do I report the one I had chosen to the staffs, or do I-

Another person near me then ripped one of the sheets of the board before vanishing out from the door. I suppose that’s how I do that then? I followed, ripping the targeted mission paper.

‘Eliminate the Slime Bunnies by the Herb Field!’ was the mission chosen to be my first one ever, since I assumed that bunnies were an easy prey for me, and even to most people. It was said there that these creatures are pests and are destroying an herb field, a patch of land where only medicinal herbs grow. And because many people find herb fields useful, of course they wouldn’t let anything else ruining it, right?

With the time always on the run, I immediately dashed towards the door and once again opened it, exiting the building. The scroll-rolled paper grasped on my hands, I headed out to the town’s front gate, as passing there was the only way to reach the destination.

By the moment my steps passed through the gate, the realization of me blindingly venturing out to a place where I don’t even know occurred, as I slapped my forehead due to my obliviousness of determination; simply put, I was too carried away on my own quest, I forgot about that the world is still being unfamiliar towards me.

*Well f_*ck, I turned back, facing the gate once more, and walked to the guards guarding there.

  “Excuse me,” I bowed slightly.

“Do you know where this place is?” the folded paper was opened, one hand holding the object while the other pointed at the text describing where the mission will take place.

The guard set his eyes on the text,

“You will find the herb field here over there.” he pointed within a distance to his right.

“Alright, thank you!” I bowed down again, then darting to the said location.

Halfway on path, I tried imagining what does the Slime Bunnies’ appearance looked like; my first impression of it was a slime shaped like a bunny, or a bunny enveloped in slime. Either way, a slime was usually the easy fights in the beginning of most fantasy stories, or games, so I was eager in interest about this creature.

The more I strolled, the more that sight of the forest was caught in my vision. There’s where I first came to this world, huh? Reminiscing the time when I wandered throughout that swirling green labyrinth, although not all of them brought good memories.

Eventually, the way had made my arrival to the location of the mission, that is, the herb field. From afar, the place seemed like it was all normal and green, until I got a closer look at it…

        What in the world…?

Dozens of small, white rabbits are gnawing all over the plants by the field. They were covered with lighted green substances that appeared to be… slimes, oozing out from their fur?

Their numbers were huge, it left my body in a state of stillness, yet my eyes can’t help but to glance on the nibbling creatures. This wasn’t what I had expected from the impression given by the text on the paper though, as it literally described the creature as what it really is. I activated “Appraisal” to examine and learn about the creature I just saw, and learned that they were labeled as pests in this world.

In that case, I’m not supposed to stand here and watch the whole field to be devoured by these cute menaces, am I?

Stance ready, I picked up the spears that were made in a massive amount, one was mounted on my palm. Legs darting off, with an eye contact and a nod, I signaled Razor to return back to his normal size.

The beast’s buzzing howl captured the attention of the busily munching critters, their heads perked up in synchronization with one and another.

Eventually, their delayed reaction allowed us to reach the field with every one of them still sealed at the ground

they’re standing, their demise was easily met.

“Now, Razor!” I commanded my familiar into action.

“Don’t let any of them escape!”

With my own words, the Wolven Hornet snarled as he bared his fangs. Within a second, he rushed to the ones now in realization of peril, and slashed them brutally with the claws he possessed, and in every death dealt by that vicious weapon of his, a splatter of thick crimson and viscous, translucent pale green gushed out bursting from the slain prey.

Meanwhile, I handled the ones that were near my area, and made sure none could escape my sight. Well, even though they did, Razor will eliminate them anyway, or at least, my spear can still land on them as long as the distance is not so far.

However, there was a single issue that messes me the most, and I really mean it by that way; like how the bunnies were slaughtered by Razor, I must also deal with the aftermath of the situation: an explosive mess of both blood and slime, every time not the spear, but the dagger was used and slashed on the critter, a splash of unwanted substances sprayed out from the squeals of death.

What the- My face contorted, lips curled, nose wrinkled, and eyelids refusing to shut whilst I flinched in spot for a second’s worth, the blend of the substances drenched my clothes in smears and stains of red and green. Eww, the stuff seemed sticky and unpleasant to touch, yet I have to bear with them for the sake of finishing the mission, and the important of them all, earn money.

And so, with a grimace of disgust carved onto my face, I resumed what was supposed to be done, and within an hour later, all of those nuisances were no longer in the living world, although yes, with the cost of this filthy mess covering myself, my familiar, and the herb field itself.

I’m starting to get why that sheet of paper wasn’t taken by anyone else… because they know that it’s going to be long day of cleaning after that…

Despite the mess, I felt fulfilled upon the fact that I had saved an herb field which was valuable to many others in this world, I wiped my forehead with the part of my arm not bothered by anything icky from the slayed. Yes, finally everything’s done, a sigh of relieve flew from my mouth.

I then called on Razor to regroup with me, in which he did, along with the slimes covering parts of his body. Gosh, look how messy he is… I thought, before glancing towards the scenery then to myself; we were all grimy considering the amount of Slime Bunnies we killed, and the slimes they poured out.

I need to get myself cleaned… Nevertheless, there was nothing I can use here, nor in the town that I know, could cleanse us from these nasty stuffs; only one thing came up in mind, and that was the “Purification” skill which proves helpful on getting rid of unwanted substances.

Without another thought, my next action was to activate the said skill as I touched my clothes. A radiant light

glowed for a moment, and the red sheds and slimes instantly vanished from my body in subsequent of the light’s dissipation.

Whoa, I’m still in awe whenever the effect took place, albeit to be honest, I think this is insufficient, as I’m not used on cleaning myself this way.

I did the same thing to Razor as well, placing my hand to him, and activating the skill, in which it did, made him

spotless from the critter’s remains, then asked him to shrink back to a smaller size.

My eyes once again averted to the field covered with liquid remnants of the creature. … Might as well clean

this place too, while we’re here.

But before that, I smeared the paper where the mission was written some slime, gathering the ‘prove’ that I actually completed the mission.

And with another set of Purification, the filths that swallowed the plants were cleansed, restoring the patch of land back to how it was in the first place.

Though, I did not expect to see that none of the corpses were laying around. No, even before the location was

purified, there seemed to be nothing on the scene. Did they explode upon death? Was a thought that ran through my head, since it was most likely the reason for our sight.

Well, today is one heck of a day. With the mission done, all that’s left to do is to report back to the Adventurer’s Guild.

Going past the path I used earlier, the way back to the town was made, all the way to the guild. Entering the building, I continued my way to the counter positioned on the posterior of the room.

A female staff with short, blonde hair awaited me on spot.

“Excuse me,” the mission sheet was held on my hand, which I extended towards the person in front.

“I’d like to turn in this mission.”

The lady retrieved the paper that was held, and evaluated it, her eyes can be seen following the words written on the paper, before landing on the part where a prove of hunt was made.

“Well done with the mission,” she said while folding the paper to a scroll-like figure.

“Here’s your reward.” she handed me a small, brown sack of some sort.

“Thank you.” I replied as I opened the sack.

Inside, ten copper coins and a single silver coin clinked with one another while they sat inside the storage where they were kept.

Ten copper coins and a silver one, huh? I wonder how much they are worth? A thought passed through my mind, recognizing the fact that I know nothing about their currency’s value, even though I own the fact about the type of coins.

“How much are they worth?” I asked the lady by the counter.

“Enough to fill you up for a week.”

“Okay… but how much if by each coin’s worth to the other types?”

“Copper coins are the base and lowest type of coin in this world,” she began her words of information.

“A silver coin’s cost is the same as ten copper coins,”

“And a gold coin’s cost is the same as fifteen silver coins.” her explanation finished; words stopped coming from her mouth.

I see… So, the payment I received was equal to twenty copper coins, or two silver coins… not bad for a first mission, I guess.

I thanked the lady by the counter and proceeded outside the building. Wonder if these are enough for a new set of clothes… My legs wandered around town, before actually managing to find a store that sells different types of attires.

Although intrigued to enter and get something new, I was halted nevertheless by the sight of price visible from the glass that separates the item and myself. There, a numeral and an icon was displayed, as it said “25” with a tiny picture of a silver coin placed on its right.

Twenty-five silver coins!? Looking back on the money I just earned, I realized that the quest I’m trying to fulfill will need more time before it can be made true. It looks like I need to earn more… I thought as I aborted on entering the store, aware that it will not give me anything if I did.

Still, the desire on getting new clothes and a bag burns even brighter than before, as I can’t give up just yet. Time to do more missions.

That said, but the sky had turned ablaze by the sun’s lowering’s hue, which meant that it should be better if I

start everything else by the next light.

With that in mind, I got myself to a place where I can fill up for the night, and ordered a meal regular enough for

my eyes to perceive. The meal was a typical, meat and short, brownish grain identical to rice to my sight, alongside with a side of herbs, not the medicinal ones, but the edible ones with no particular effects. The taste was decent, and to tell you the truth, I preferred that boar’s meat rather than this. I should probably hunt some when I have the chance later on.

I also got Razor, my familiar the same food that I ordered, except that he’s only getting the meat and none other else, since I doubt that hornets eat rice and crops. The owner of the place was kind enough to give an extra piece of meat, so that should fill his ‘tiny’ body up.

The meal itself costs three copper coins, and two for the one with only meat on it. In total, that’s five copper

coins for a supper, and I left the place afterwards.

I decided to camp back on the wilderness in order to save some money, although I plan on resting at an inn when I accumulate more from the following days. And with that, another day had gone by, as what awaits me is the next ray of light.
