POV Riese
"Riese, what grade are you in?"
"I'm in advanced class C."
"Oh, we're in different classes."
"Which class are you in, Anna?"
"I'm in class A."
"Don't worry, we'll meet after school, won't we?"
"You're right, see you later, Riese!"
"Goodbye, Anna."
Anna and I headed to our respective classes. Hmm... what will we learn today? I'm really looking forward to it.
I remember the selection test; Uncle Martin's teachings seemed so incredible. During the test, we were asked to use magic; control it and manipulate it. If I were the person I was before, I would have struggled. Anna once told me she was lucky to learn from Uncle Martin. My water magic level is now four; I can use waterball and water cutter. The written exam was also very easy; Uncle had taught us everything. Is Uncle a member of the royal family on the run? He couldn't possibly be that talented. As I pondered this, I arrived at my class.
Everyone stared as I entered the room.
Uh~ why are you all staring at me? You're making me nervous.
"Hello miss, from which noble family do you hail? I'm Paul Werner of Viscount Werner."
"So-sorry, I'm not of noble birth. I'm just a commoner."
"What~ are you joking with me?"
"I'm serious, I'm from Molly Village in Baron Vine's domain, I'm Riese."
As I introduced myself, I moved to an empty seat.
"Hey, nice to meet you, I'm Lily from Marquiss Warhammer."
"Oh, I'm Riese, from Molly Village, nice to meet you."
"Riese, you're very beautiful. Your appearance is like that of nobility."
"A-Ahaha, could it be the cosmetics that uncle gave me?"
"Ah? Cosmetics? From what I know, cosmetic effects don't look as natural as yours; I have them too but they only make you appear pale."
"Well... all I know is, this is a new product line my uncle is planning to sell; honestly, I've never used cosmetics before this."
"Hey, can I place an order? I want to try it too."
"Alright, I'll ask about it for you."
"Everyone, please settle down, class is about to begin."
At that announcement, we all turned our heads to see. It was the instructor for today's lesson.
"Today we'll be learning advanced calculations. You're already familiar with subtraction and addition. Now, we'll move to calculations with the numbers D (500) and M (1000) and above. Has anyone studied these before?"
"I have~"
"Alright, what's your name?"
"I am Reiner Philip, the current King's nephew."
"Oh, of royal lineage, well, I am Hendrick Bezos from Marquiss Bezos. Here, I will treat you no differently than your fellow students."
"No problem."
"So, what have you learned?"
"I know that beyond the C, there's D and M for more advanced calculations."
"Good, I'll test you. How do you read MCMXC?"
"It's nineteen ninety."
He could read the advanced numbers quite adeptly. As I had expected from someone of noble offspring.
"Excellent, that's how it should be for royal family members."
After Mr. Hendrick tested students from various backgrounds, I concluded that many were having trouble remembering the longer forms. The modern form Uncle taught seems much easier. Maybe I should ask about it?
"Mr. Hendrick, may I ask a question?"
"Yes, what's your name?"
"I'm Riese, from Molly Village. I previously lived in your region, Marquiss Bozes."
"Oh, you're from my domain. Go ahead with your question."
"May I go to the blackboard?"
"Yes, by all means."
I moved to the front and wrote down the modern numbers.
"Mr. Hendrick, are you acquainted with this type of number?"
"Hmm, I've never seen numbers like this; are these another kind of numerical symbols?"
"Yes, my uncle taught me this, saying these numbers come from his home country. It all starts with zero, which implies that the next number is real. Then there's one, two,..., nine. Can you imagine how easy it would be to perform calculations with these simple numbers?"
"You're correct, and I too am curious about their origin. This seems like progress. Could you possibly demonstrate further?"
I only wanted to be a little smug about my knowledge, yet this ended quite differently. With that, the class ended with everyone learning numbers from me.
POV Anna
"Oh, I'll feel so lonely in my class."
I gazed out the window. I might seem friendly, but that's only because Riese is with me. I'm quite introverted by nature.
Today we have a lesson from Mrs. Alicia on literacy. Mrs. Alicia is a beautiful elf, and everyone, men and women alike, is captivated by her. She's teaching us about musical literacy. According to her, good music can soothe the soul. I agree with her.
Mrs. Alicia played Elven Prophecy on the violin, and her performance was mesmerizing. She also taught us how to read music scores, and I found it delightful. I'm not usually a fan of studying, but Mrs. Alicia's music has piqued my interest.
Before class started, I was quite uncomfortable with many men approaching me, saying how beautiful I am. It may seem flattering to others, but if you experienced it yourself, it's a mix of emotions. I somehow feel resented by my female classmates, and I'm not sure how to explain this.
After the lesson, some girls approached me.
"Anna, what's your secret to looking so beautiful? Could you share it with us?"
Ugh, she asked with such sarcasm. But this could be a good opportunity; I think I can help Uncle with this.
"Could I know your name, miss?"
"I'm Agnes Miller, niece of Viscount Miller."
"Well, Miss Agnes, this new cosmetic was developed by my uncle. He'll be selling it soon. Would you be interested?"
"Really? Can we trust it?"
"Am I not living proof?"
I said that to her.
"That's true. Is it possible to inform us when it's available?"
"Of course, Miss Agnes."
"Thanks to your help, from now on, I'll be your protector in this class."
"Thank you for that, Miss."
At least now I can reduce the number of enemies in my class. That's how my first day at the Academy went.
POV Rain
Hello, I'm Rain, and this is my first day at the Academy. Being a loner in class, I was the first to be bullied.
"Hey, you reek, kid. What are you doing here without greeting me?"
"Is it necessary to greet you?"
"Guys, did you hear his stupid question?"
"Yes, Neil, he doesn't know who runs this class."
Neil Tigres is a beastman from the tiger tribe with an impressive constitution, making everyone follow him.
"There's no rule that I must submit to you. I have no business with you and no time to waste on you."
"What did you just say?"
As he spoke, his cronies surrounded me.
"What's the meaning of this?"
"If you want me to let you go, kneel and beg for mercy. I might give you a lighter punishment."
"I'd rather not kneel to someone like you."
"Looks like I need to teach you a lesson."
After that, he lunged at me. Uncle had forbidden me from violence but said if someone attacked me, I could defend myself. Watching his attack, I found many openings.
Ducking under, I charged and struck his lower jaw. His balance was thrown off, and he fell.
Silence fell over everyone. Neil being formidable, no one dared to challenge him. I looked down on him with disdain. Shocked and furious, Neil wanted revenge, but then our teacher walked in and scolded us.
"What in the world are you kids doing?"
Upon hearing that, we all scattered to our seats. The instructor immediately issued a warning.
"If I see this again, the consequences will be severe."
Be aware that in the Academy, teachers rule supreme. Even the King cannot punish a teacher without approval from the headmaster.
"Ah, what a terrible first day..."
I muttered to myself.
"Hey, what's your name? I'm Malik from Miller Town."
"Oh, I'm Rain from Bezos City."
"Rain, you're quite skilled. Who taught you?"
"I learned from my uncle, a master of hand-to-hand combat."
"Wow, is your uncle some legendary adventurer?"
"No, he's a merchant."
"Nonsense!"
"WHAT ARE YOU DISCUSSING OVER THERE, PAY ATTENTION AND FOCUS ON THE LESSON!"
Whoops! Such a rough start to my first day.
That's how my first day at the Academy went.
POV Alice
"Alice, Airel, and brother, it looks like we are all in the same class!"
"Oh, this is fun; we can stick together."
"Yes, but make sure you both behave well in class."
"Yes, sir!"
Airel and I replied in unison. Though Brother Aira is the same age as us, he's much more mature.
Alice is thrilled to be with Brother Aira and Airel.
We entered the class, and soon after, the teacher arrived.
"Oh, Uncle~"
I blurted out instinctively. Is Uncle going to be our teacher? How delightful! I can still be with Uncle in class.
Brother Aira and Airel seem happy too. It seems Alice might grow to like this school thing.
Hey, are you not listening to Uncle? You're a naughty child.
It's a girl who seems skeptical of Uncle. Alice should tell her how magnificent Uncle is.
Uncle had us introduce ourselves. Afterward, he started teaching us the basics of reading. Alice isn't fond of reading, but luckily she can do it, so Uncle won't be disappointed.
Alice observed that other kids also seemed to like Uncle. His teaching method is indeed the best.
After class, Uncle gave each of us a delicious lollipop. The other kids loved it.
Hmph, you haven't even tasted Uncle's celebration cake.
When class ended, Uncle left, and all the children gathered around me, Airel, and Brother Aira.
"Is he really your uncle?"
"Hey, do you often eat lollipops?"
"Can we come over to play sometime?"
Alice felt overwhelmed. Being surrounded like this made her uneasy.
"Everyone, calm down!!!"
Ah, Brother Aira, you're amazing. You managed to calm them down.
"Uncle is kind; I'm sure he'll give us lollipops again as long as we take our studies seriously. But Uncle is strict too; if we don't listen to him, he'll get mad and not give treats."
"Really?"
Some of them asked.
"Of course, as long as we're good and study hard, he'll make us happy. So, what must we do?"
"Study!"
Nearly all the kids cheered happily. Brother Aira, thankful you're here, Alice is so relieved.
And that's how Alice, Airel, and Brother Aira's first day at the Academy went.
