My name is Emma Green... I'm 28 and I work as a waitress at a diner nearby. I lost my parents three years ago; my mother passed away from cancer and my father couldn't bear living without her...
They were incredibly close, and I always knew that my dad wouldn't be able to survive her passing. We found out about the cancer when I was 15. It was a shocking and sudden blow... She had to stop working, and my dad had to put in extra hours to try to afford her treatment while keeping food on the table.
I wanted to drop out of school to look for a job to help at home... But my mom forbade it. She said she'd rather die than have me do that. When I finished high school, she wanted me to go to college... But I needed to work to support my dad!
It was so hard... Watching her waste away before my eyes. She was always so full of life and an exceptional mother. Even with the illness, she never gave up, always trying to cheer us up... A positive outcome was a cause for celebration for her, and the negative was another reason to be thankful.
I learned a lot from her and plan to be for my children what she was to me... A warrior!
We battled the cancer for ten years... Ten years of winning fights, and in the end, we won the war so she could finally rest.
It was God's will... She always said that!
Today I live alone in the house they left me... When I marry Danilo, we'll live here!

Danilo is the man of my life... we've been dating for 8 years and are getting married soon. We're saving money for it... Saving every penny to make our dream come true. He currently works at a big company... The only issue is it's not here, it's in the neighboring city... Two hours away, he can only come to see me every other week.
It's tough being so far apart from him... But it's for a good cause.

He smiles and exhales deeply...
Asher - Sorry, kiddo... It's these documents stressing me out.
Emma - You need a girlfriend, that's what you need!
Asher - I’m good without one!
Emma - Lol, I'm a woman, remember?
Asher - You don't count... You're the only decent one in this Godforsaken world! The rest... I want nothing to do with!

His expression sours as he goes back to look at his documents... He's not a big fan of Danilo since he didn't come when my parents passed. He's told me over and over to break up with him because he doesn't deserve me.
Emma - Don't make that face!
Asher - I'm not making any face!
Emma - I'm sure you guys will be great friends one day!
Asher - That's never going to happen... Forget it!
Emma - Stop calling me that!
Asher - You're like a little sister to me... I can call you that lol
Emma - Ugh!
Asher - I’m still going to see you with someone who deserves the amazing woman that you are. Just don't forget, I'm the one who'll walk you down the aisle... Your uncle made me promise!
Tears flood my eyes, and Asher stands up...
Asher - Sorry... I didn't mean to upset you!
Emma - It's okay... I'm okay! Well, let me get to work, haha!
I leave and close the door... I take a deep breath and head to my station.
It still hurts to talk about them... Asher occasionally brings them up, trying to ease the pain. I know he means well, but I'm still not ready to talk about them without feeling so much pain.
