Episode 13

RAFAELA...

Yesterday when I came back from school, I brought Flavinha and Igor to stay with Pedro for a while. He was so happy that it warmed my heart. Now I'm going to pick him up from the hospital, my parents will stay with Ana until I come back.

"Mommy will be back soon, honey. I'm just going to get your brother."

"Okay, mom."

I head to the hospital and after Natan gave me all the necessary recommendations, Pedro was discharged.

"Don't hesitate to call me if he feels anything. And remember, no running or eating processed foods full of fat."

"Not even french fries, Uncle?!"

"No, little one, unfortunately not. You have to maintain a light and healthy diet so that your condition doesn't worsen. You're almost well and able to go back home, that's why you have to eat only these things that you don't like."

"Okay... See you on Monday, Uncle Nat."

"See you, take care, champ."

They do a double fist bump, and we leave the hospital. I carry Pedro in my arms to the car, and when we get home, Ana was on the couch with my parents.

"Pedroooo," Ana runs to hug her brother, but when she gets close to him, she hugs him gently. "I missed you."

"I missed you too. Hi grandma, hi grandpa."

"Hi, my favorite little grandson," my mother says, even though they only have the two grandchildren.

"I'm the only boy, Grandma."

"I know, dear. That's why you're my favorite."

My father goes to him and picks him up, bringing him to the couch. I go to the kitchen and get his coffee, milk, and fresh fruits. I also brought some for Ana, even though she had already had breakfast. We just enjoy our family moment, and in the afternoon, my sister and Brenda came over.

At night, when I was already putting the twins to bed, Pedro called me softly.

"Hi, son," I crouch near his bed.

"Will dad come see us?" I let out a slow breath.

"I don't know... But I told him he could come see you guys."

"Who, mommy?" Ana asks me from her bed.

"Our dad, Ana. That guy who came to see me at the hospital... He's not Uncle Teteu, he's our dad, right, mom?"

"Yes, son. He's your father."

"Really, mommy? Uncle Teteu is our dad?" she says almost jumping on the bed. "Yay."

I end up smiling at Ana's excitement. I finish telling them a story and go to my room, lying down on the bed. Only then do I open my social media, which I use very little and have been paying even less attention to.

I see that Matheus started following me and even liked almost all of my posts. I go to his profile and don't find any trace of his fiancee, which is a bit strange. Matheus had a lot of followers on Instagram, not even close to my profile, which only had a few acquaintances.

He had only a few photos exposed, and in the few that he had, the comments ranged from the most common ones like "handsome" to the more insane ones like invitations to be taken to bed. That disgusted me. I always disable the commenting option precisely for this reason, the senseless comments.

I fall asleep a few minutes after following Matheus back. The next day, when I wake up, there's a message from him asking for my address because he wants to come see the kids. I give him all the details and go to do my hygiene routine.

"God help me, give me patience and wisdom to tolerate Matheus in my house."

I go downstairs to the kitchen and my mother is already finishing breakfast, as both she and my father spent the night here.

"Good morning, dear," she says as soon as I give her a kiss on the cheek.

"Good morning, mom."

"Is everything okay?"

"Matheus is coming to see the kids. Can you stay a bit longer, here?"

"Oh, honey... Of course I can. What time are the twins' friends coming?"

"In the afternoon, just the closest ones, Flavia, Igor, Henrique, and Luana. They're practically inseparable."

"You're right. Well, breakfast is ready. Are you going to wake them up?" I shake my head and start eating.

The morning passed quickly, light, and at the same time... tense. The children asked about Matheus as soon as they woke up, which resulted in a big celebration from them after hearing my answer. After lunch, I gave them both a bath and got them ready. Their friends would arrive between 2 and 3 o'clock, while Matheus... could be any time, and that was making me even more tense.

"Mom, is dad going to take longer to arrive?" Ana asked for the thousandth time. My father was in the garden and didn't hear her question, but as soon as he came into the living room, the doorbell rang.

"I'll answer, sweetheart," he said, opening the door. As soon as he opened it, I only heard my father asking angrily, "You? What are you doing here?"
