Chapter 5: Secrets and Wings
Next, Daksh and I embarked on our journey. As we stepped out, Daksh whispered a few words that caused a tree to open up, revealing an exit. I was amazed to see that the tree remained still as we made our way through. Daksh paused and muttered something under his breath, causing the tree to shrink down to a minuscule size, which he then casually placed in his pocket. I couldn't fathom how he performed such a feat.
As Daksh stowed away the tree, I stood there in awe, contemplating how he had accomplished this miraculous act. Determined to find out, I gathered my courage and asked him about his magic.
"How did you manage to put the tree in your pocket?" I inquired.
He responded, "I possess a special kind of magic."
Perplexed, I questioned, "What kind of magic is it? Isn't magic something only certain individuals possess?"
Daksh calmly replied, "Magic exists in everything and everyone."
Doubtful, I shook my head. "I find it hard to believe. In my hometown, people don't practice magic or have any magical abilities."
Curious, Daksh asked, "How do they manage to live without magic?"
I chuckled and explained, "Well, people rely on their knowledge and skills to navigate through life. Living without magic is commonplace for us."
Eager to learn more, I asked Daksh about his own identity. "What exactly are you?"
He replied with a hint of mystery, "I am a magical being."
Accepting his response, I nodded and said, "Alright."
Suddenly, I turned my attention to our destination. "When will we reach our destination?"
Daksh informed me, "We should arrive in approximately five days."
Surprised by the timeframe, I exclaimed, "What? We've only been walking for one day, and five days seem daunting. Are there no shortcuts to reach our destination?"
Daksh smirked mischievously. "Actually, if you knew how to fly, we could reach there in just three days. Can you fly?"
Taken aback, I responded, "No, I don't know how to fly, nor do I possess any wings. Can you fly?"
Daksh nodded, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. "Yes, I can fly."
Curious, I asked, "How? Do you have wings?"
His response intrigued me even more. "Yes, I do have wings."
Excitedly, I pleaded, "Show me your wings!"
But Daksh refused, stating, "No, I won't show you."
I persisted, "Please, show me your wings."
Again, he declined, and I began to feel a tinge of annoyance. "Ooh, I understand now. You're just playing a prank on me. You don't have any wings. You're lying!"
Defending himself, Daksh retorted, "I am not lying, I assure you."
Unconvinced, I challenged him, "Then prove it! Show me your wings, and I'll believe you. Please!"
After a moment of hesitation, Daksh finally agreed, saying, "Alright, I'll show you my wings."
We found a suitable spot to rest and witness this spectacle. Daksh asked, "Are you ready?"
Eagerly, I replied, "Yes, show me your wings!"
Suddenly, wings sprouted from his back. They were a beautiful shade of blue with silver markings. I approached them, reaching out to touch their magnificent feathers, but they vanished into thin air before I could make contact.
Disappointed, I felt a hint of anger rising within me. "You didn't even let me touch the wings! I am getting mad!"
Daksh calmly reminded me, "You said you wanted to see them, not touch them. I showed you my wings."
Although he was right, I still expressed my frustration. "But I didn't see them properly."
Pleading once again, I begged, "Please, just one more time. I really want to see your wings."
Daksh stood firm, repeating, "I've already shown them to you."
Reluctantly, I acquiesced, realizing it was futile to insist any further. "Okay, fine. Can I have some water now? I'm also feeling hungry."
Daksh explained our priorities, saying, "First, we need to find a safe place to spend the night. It's getting late."
Understanding the need for caution, I agreed, "Okay."
We continued walking until we discovered a secure location to rest. Daksh declared, "We'll stay here for the night."
I nodded in agreement, realizing that we had yet to cross even half of the snow-covered mountain. Curious about the impending danger Daksh mentioned, I inquired, "What kind of danger awaits us?"
Daksh placed the tree he retrieved from his pocket onto the snow and began chanting a series of spells. Slowly, the tree ascended into the air.
He replied, "You see, in the realm of magic, there are not only good beings but also those with malevolent intentions. Some of them might try to harm you."
Confused, I asked, "But why me?"
Daksh admitted, "I don't know the details, but the queen informed me that you are in danger. It's part of a secret mission. The fewer people who know about it, the better it is for your safety. That's why I'm here to protect you."
Pondering his words, I simply replied, "Alright."
As questions continued to flood my mind, Daksh signaled for us to enter the tree. He performed another set of incantations and asked me to enter first. Once inside, he followed and closed the entrance behind us.
Daksh then suggested, "Come, let's prepare some food."
I agreed, and while we ate, Daksh excused himself momentarily, disappearing into another room. Curious, I approached him when he returned, noticing a picture in front of him.
He said to the picture, "You asked if I found it. Well, I have."
